480p videos on my 6" phone does not look pixelized at all, it looks quite good and detailed. 240p on the phone is blurry. Maybe you need to buffer your video-stream, ie wait about 10 seconds before pressing the Play button. Cheap phone plans can come with a bit of inconvenience.
.
*
480p look really pixelated even on 1080p+ screen these day,let alone flagships device that have qhd display, eg Samsung devices

i not sure what device u own,but I'm pretty sure 480p videos not acceptable in 2019, even cheap entry phone got 6.4 inch full hd display, that or either u need to get ur eye checked.

that's aside,i believe you get what u pay for, gx50 or 30 is seriously good considering its price.

I dont care what article said, 480p is blurry even on 6.4inch screen, u can do a poll and ask everyone on the forum.

That's even worse on my OnePlus 7 pro qhd display, it's not even enjoyable.

4k is useless for mobile phone

but 720p and 1080p contents in smartphone feel much better and less blurry than 480p

Seems, the problem bottle-neck in video-rendering on high-end phones lies in their not-needed or wasteful high resolution displays of more than 1080p/UHD which over-tax the batteries and processors.
.
*
u pull an article on 2013? what are we? stone age people?

do i need 1080p on smartphone? hell yeah i need.

480p vs 720p vs 1080p, I'll take 720/1080p anytime, seriously u need to upgrade ur so call 6" phone(or whatever that is)

anyway, this thread already derail too much already, let's just stick to umobile related topic.

I think ur understanding is not correct at all.

Those articles u post are talking about whether higher resolution is needed on a phone.

unless u have a phone that can change resolution like Samsung flagship phone. Else it does not save battery.

For example, ur phone is 1080p, even u run a 1080p or 480p video the resolution of the phone still stays at 1080p. The 480p will just be โ€˜upscaledโ€™ to fix the screen. So it does not have the battery saving as what u claimed.
*
i think we need to stop talking with this guy

he thinks 480p is good enough for him and that fine, his opinion, maybe he got a iPhone 4 with 480p, who knows?

for rest of us , we can(maybe our eyes better) see that 480p should not be the standard for our video consumption, and with 5G coming in, umobile should give us 720p or just 3-4mbps for video(not like it'll be any different from 5mbps dl that they already give)

however, I think gx50 is perfectly fine for the price, but i hope the 5mbps limit should be apply for all apps and video

Because 480p is more than good enough for a 6" phone, which is what GX30/50 is for. 1080p is only needed for large screen TV up to 55" and computer monitors of about 21".

This discussion about video resolution given by UMobile "unlimited" GX30/50 plan and phone's display resolution is related to this UMobile topic since you are complaining about UMobile limiting video-streaming to SD/480p/1Mbps. Users who understand this issue can see that UMobile is fair since GX30/50 is an affordable or cheap 4G phone plan for "unlimited" data.

Expecting UMobile to give 1080p video-streaming for RM30/50 per month is unfair.

Like I said before, UMobile has to pay TM for backend HSBB Fiber Internet data for onward connection from its 4G cell towers.

i was replying to ur idiotic statement (bolded)

Note that UMobile runs on 3G UMTS/HSPA+ Band 1(2100MHz) and 4G LTE Band 7(2600MHz), which are easily blocked by walls and buildings = your mobile device should face the open air for good cell signal reception. 3G/4G cell towers are usually located in urban areas and along main roads and highways for car navigation apps.
....... "Unlimited" data for UMobile is for both its 3G and 4G networks.

In comparison, TM Unifi Mobile has only 4G network, ie no 3G. For 3G, Unifi Mobile roams on Celcom's 3G = TM has to pay Celcom. Unifi Mobile can also roam on Celcom's 4G network = TM has to pay Celcom. So, unlimited data for Unifi Mobile is only for its own 4G network, not on Celcom's 3G or 4G.
....... Only Unifi Mobile limited data phone plans can roam on Celcom's 3G/4G network when not covered by its own 4G network. Afaik, TM Unifi Mobile 4G coverage is quite poor.

So, for some, it may be better to subscribe to UMobile's "unlimited" data phone plans like GX30/50.
.
.

Normal 3G download speed is 5Mbps and normal 4G speed is 30Mbps. Recently, Digi and Maxis have upgraded to 4G LTE-Advance = normal speed is 130Mbps.
.
*
for unifi rm99 plan(now slashed to rm59 for now), its unlimited data on both 3g and 4g network, and unifi 4g network quite stable and good coverage in major city

https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/4750658/+2140 - post #2158 says that all postpaid Unifi Mobile plans have 3G data limited to 5GB per month, ie only on TM's 4G network can the postpaid plans be unlimited = on 4G LTE Band 5/38/40. Maybe, TM has updated its TnC for the latest promo RM59 plan - see post #2200.

It is doubtful that TM Unifi Mobile would allow RM59 plan subscribers to use unlimited data on Celcom's 3G/H+ network, eg use 500GB per month. Celcom would certainly not allow it, unless TM compensates Celcom in full for the unlimited data used. Maybe, the unlimited data on Celcom 3G is capped at 1Mbps throughout.
.
.
.
P S - I just found out that Unifi Mobile also limits video-streaming to SD/480p/1Mbps for most of its postpaid and prepaid plans, including the promo unlimited data RM59 plan.
.
*
u dont have to quote anyone, I'm using this plan, and nope, there are no data limit on both 3g or 4g, there are no data indicator at beginning (except other unifi mobile plan)

that non band 5 phone 3g data limit thing is way back from webe era, nothing new, just to remind u that must use webe certified smartphone

and nope, my YouTube can stream up to 720p, the speed is capped around 300kbps(actual dl speed) for utube only, twitch, astro on go (tested) are not cap for my device (OnePlus 7 Pro)

I think u mean 3000kbps = 3Mbps? I dun think 300kbps can stream even 480p.

If 4Mbps will be sweet spot, 720p (auto) no issue and again 1080p (manual) is ok also.
*
yup yup.

can bro, 1080p will buffer, 720p no problem

I think you can only stream Youtube at 720p if you can get 4G LTE Band 38/40 on Unifi Mobile, which is not easy depending on coverage. .......

it's easy, u can even get 4g in ur place i bet

at least it's possible to stream 720p(utube, other no limit)in my case, where umobile dont give u that.

edit: its 4th of January, and i already use 10gb for streaming etc, usually my usage is around 60 to 80gb per months

where umobile will capped u once hit 50gb i believe

TM Unifi Mobile 4G coverage is much worse than UMobile. ....... https://www.nperf.com/en/map/MY/1735161.Kua...9770508&zoom=12
https://www.nperf.com/en/map/MY/1735161.Kua...9770508&zoom=12  If no 4G coverage and drop to Celcom's 3G/H+, download speeds for Unifi Mobile subscribers seem slow as heck = around 1Mbps or less = cannot even get 480p Youtube streaming.

UMobile GX50 no-contract = RM50 per month vs Unifi Mobile RM99 per month 12-months-contract(= RM59 is promo only).
....... Of course, GX50/RM50 comes with less benefits than RM99. Furthermore, TM has advantages/tongkat as a GLC.

Fyi, with the latest promo from UMobile, I am paying only RM40 per month for 6 months for GX50.

Btw, who's that girl.?
.

do u realise that umobile has the worst 4g coverage in Malaysia?

https://www.soyacincau.com/2019/12/19/u-mob...ignal-malaysia/

'With 4G and 3G combined, the disparity becomes less apparent with the top 4 telcos having over 90% availability across all areas. However, U Mobile still falls short in the rural districts with 86.4% availability.

Whatโ€™s surprising is that Unifi Mobile has the highest availability in the highest populated areas with 98.4% versus 98.1% by Celcom'

u don't have to look at the statistics, just mnp into unifi rm59(no contract btw) , test it and know the difference, just mnp out if u feel like dont want to use, that's what good for us consumer with plan that offer no contract, heck even i trying to find the best telco for me, I'm not just restricted to umobile and unifi, I'll jump if any telco offer better plan.

the girl is jinnytty from twitch (i like watch because her travel around korea, etc)

Well, good to know that, in normal case i guess that not reachable.

But knowing it's got a limit , doesn't feel right as a unlimited plan.

I'll wait until TM Unifi Mobile make the RM59 promo permanent with no-contract and its 4G coverage improves by at least 100%. Then only I may consider since the 10GB hotspot can suddenly go missing and international roaming charges are much more expensive.

Why u sounds so butthurt? biggrin.gif

Chill man, it's just telco, we dont work for them, they work for us, we dont need to defend for them gao gao.

Be it unifi, umobile, maxis whatever, who offer us the best, we jump ship

my conclusion on gx30 umobile, around a week or so

its the worst telco i ever use

the coverage was bad, most place got 3g only, and contrast to what the other experienced, the 3g was too slow while the 4g is decent enough

this is on town area, i never thought town area also half half on 3g n 4g

my advice to whom that want to mnp, buy a sim from 7evelen, try the gx12(don't like me spend rm30 on gx30) , try a week and see if can bear the speed.

for me, I don't recommend because of the inconsistent speed and network.

for those who curious, yes, it can play 720p utube video without buffer, but depends on network sometimes.

Yeah bro, I felt u becos I did the exactly the same thing as u, I bought a new starter pack and I did the MNP. The number is not my main number though, just a quite nice number I got from yoodo. And I also spent rm30 extra on the GX30. Totally wasted of money. Day 1 I already vomited blood.

It has good network indeed at certain places like opened air etc. but it is totally inconsistent experience which most of the time cmi.
*
i carry 2 phone, OnePlus 7 pro is main phone with 2 sim, 1 for celcom for work, 1 unifi is my personal number, 2nd phone is v30 with whatever telco i want to test, want to try yes but yes is not unlimited anymore

I'm survey this thread before, as mentioned by many, seems like ok, i also do a scan on networks before buy umobile, ok got 4g

but like u bro, the network is inconsistent, sometimes 4g , most of the time 3g, both speed is not consistent also, sometime extremely fast, sometimes not, how can one expect me to use when it's not congested? what's the point for unlimited then?

i never had these problem with celcom and unifi before, my gf infinite 100 digi also can do 5 to 10mbps even at night when its congested.

my advice for umobile, just fix this issue and we'll consider again.

my advice for other, test the gx12 first, when u buy it the sim,its preloaded with rm6,top up another rm6 to try first

luckily I didn't mnp like u bro,but no contract,i think its ok

Yes. The speed really sucks...
Wonder how they got the award mentioned that UM have the most increase in coverage for 1 year period vs other Telco..
Maybe because they coverage is the lowest among all this playing catch up now ๐Ÿคฃ

Anyhow...
for any Telco I want to use..
Normally I buy  sim pack to test out first...
So not to disappoint later on...
*
same like me also, i also buy new to try it out,but 7evlen got promo for rm36.90 if not mistaken, with rm36 inside, i say heck why not, instant regret.

but I'm not totally condemn umobile, they got very good intentions on making unlimited for everyone and affordable, but they need to fix their network first.

I'll be back ,but not now though.

Yes, huge different between the open areas and in a building (like house).

Most of oppo and vivo phones just have 4G band 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 38, 40 and 41 only.

If you are using U Mobile or Yes 4G, you can have good signal in the open area. But once you entering a building, the signal becomes bad, cannot surfing internet and even go to 3G.

Since LG is not official launch in Malaysia, although it has 4G band 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 20, 28, 38, 39, 40 and 41 (according to LG V30+ Hong Kong version), I don't know whether U Mobile can suit or not with the phone.

masalah smartphone again,i got snapdragon chip are one of the strongest network performing chips(especially compared to Samsung exynos or apple intel modem)

i wonder why telco has fan base as well,i thought fan war is between smartphone brand, smh

that's why bro

so by he's logic, we'll have to buy specific phone, in specific place, at specific time to enjoy the umobile?

if that's i waive goodbye for my new sim, dont have time and money to invest another smartphone and time to travel to kv area.
