Hi,

I am considering between Asus FX505 and Lenovo Legion Y530.
Which would be the better option here?
*
out of these two, Legion Y530

Hi everyone. I'm looking to buy a 3k-ish gaming laptop and I've been looking at the Dell G3, acer nitro 5, asus tuf fx504, msi gl63 and lenovo legion y530.

Can anyone with relevant info help me with this? The heat level, performance etc. I only play FIFA and PES, and weight is also within my considerations as I'll be taking it to work - not for gaming of course! ;-)

Thanks everyone!
*
From my understanding, only the Y530 is recommended out of the models you mentioned. I would suggest looking into the Illegear Raven as well.

hi guys,
i played around with lenovo customisation on t480/y530, im just not sure what kind config is the best, i just wanted to have it optimal setup, when i played around with the best config i can think off, seems the price almost the same and i plan to purchase it with student discount if i manage to get one

this is work/media consumption laptop primarily but with the same price point why not y530 in corner of my mind LOL..

mind share your input ?
*
for y530, you can probably upgrade the ram and storage after purchase.

Update on my upcoming reviews:
1. Will post Illegear Onyx RTX review and Selenite RTX review soon
2. Will do a live review on Level51 Slate-15 and Slate-17 next week (who wants to join me? haha)
3. Might do a review on Vivobook S530UN, see whether it can convince me to recommend it or not despite its OK-mediocre reviews
*
actually is the s510 or s530 better?

My parents arent convinced that I buy Lenovo.com even if I decide to, so I want to ask about your experiences buying on Lenovo's website so that I could convince my parents as they just don't trust buying expensive stuff online

EDIT: found this, is it worth it? https://www.lazada.com.my/products/lenovo-i...524bcGnJR6&mp=1
*
what model are you trying to buy from Lenovo's online store?

You could prehaps mention that it's much much more affodable to buy off Lenovo's website.

I am helping my sister to get a multimedia and gaming laptop. Budget 4k, expect battery life at least 3 hours. Any recommendation?

Illegear Raven. A few quirks but otherwise great.

I am considering to buy a laptop around RM3k. I have done some survey on the laptop. Could you guys recommend me which laptop to choose for among below three laptop? Or you guys have other recommendations as well. I put in Asus TUF FX505G because I am thinking to play Dota 2 or its better to buy a PC to play Dota 2 and exclude Asus TUF FX505G from the list.

1) Lenovo Ideapad 530S
2) Asus Vivobook S14
3) Asus TUF FX505G
*
Asus TUF laptops are quite bad. DOTA is not a demanding game so a MX150 would suffice. You could perhaps consider the Aspire 5/6 as well.

If screen size goes to 14" and normal hdd instead of ssd? Can make it within budget? Speed is important, slow bootup is not preferred. I know those celeron or power saving slow cpu are cheaper, but they are not preferred. I rather up the budget a little and see how. 4GB ram is fine, cos light use. Nothing serious. Not going to open 50 browser tabs. Maybe just 10.
*
There was a configuration of the Aspire 5 with a 120/128GB SSD, a decent CPU but with a terrible display for RM1900. However it's screen size is 15.6" and the product doesn't seem to be available any more.

Let's say just leave the mech kb, what spec should I get for graphic, video and interior design? Which should I get
*
Depends on what software to use. Some applications could benefit from GPU acceleration and some don't.

is this ACER PREDATOR HELIOS 300 PH315-51-510T (i5-8300H,4GB DDR4,1TB+ 128GB M.2 SSD,15.6" IPS,GTX1060 6GB,WIN 10,2 YEAR ONSITE) good choice?
*
at what price?

The above configuration will need it's RAM upgraded immediately. Also the Helios 300 isn't easy to take apart which could be a bummer if you want to repaste which could help in thermals.

Me personally would go for an Illegear Raven GTX 1060 instead.

Those who are shopping for a new gaming laptop might want to wait for Ryzen+GTX machines:

*
Interesting. Yes people should consider waiting for Ryzen 3 H with GTX 1660. However people shouldn't wait for Asus TUF models regardless of CPU or GPU.

I'm looking for an ultrabook with the following preferences:
1) Under 2kg and under
2) Core i5 or above
3) 14", the brighter the better
4) Prefer SSD (But not a must, because I can swap out with SSD aftermarket)
5) Must have discrete GPU for light gaming (dota2) and some light graphic (adobe photoshop)
6) Good battery life
7) Windows
8) Non glossy monitor
9) Reasonable temperature and fan noise
*
Acer Aspire 5 though I'm not sure whether display is glossy or not.

My brother is looking for a new laptop.
His requirement are:
1. 15.6 inch (prefer to have good SRGB display)
2. Lightweight (< 2.3kg, the lighter the better)
3. At least 8GB RAM (Must be RAM upgradable - will upgrade another 8GB in future)
4. i7 processor (for Building Analysis & Modelling Software, AutoCAD)
5. Prefer to have SSD
6. Must have dedicated graphic card (light gaming)
7. Battery life (at least 2 to 3 hours)

Budget is < RM4.5k
*
Illegear Raven. A few quirks but otherwise great.
However if you want good SRGB display, you have to wait until 144Hz refresh rate option is restocked.

Need recommendation

1. Budget : RM3000 - 4000
2. Usage: Internet surfing, youtube, light to medium gaming (preferably can run most modern games in medium to high setting)
3. Size: 14"+
4. Brand: No brand preference, but prefer those with good after-sales services, also prefer common brand aka those I get get easily from local shop, no need to import

My current laptop is Asus N43SL which I have been using for 8 years.  sweat.gif

Yup, that time I bought for less than RM3k, and can run most modern games in medium high settings.  rclxms.gif
Seems like many people are recommending Illegear, after some quick study, seems like it is a local company that sells custom-built laptops, their reputation very good?
Also, their service center is in KL, but I live in Penang, so might be hard if I need to service the laptop.  sweat.gif
*
I own Illegear Raven in Penang. Recently I screwed something up and they have been very accommodating so far.

Sorry, dGPU means?? Asus zenbook quite light, other brands also same??
*
dGPU means dedicated gpu. A dedicated gpu is more powerful than an igpu or integrated gpu.

Asus are not the only one's with light laptops. Other brands also can.
