I think the lightweight is more than enough cause I'm casually walking around with laptop in office while dock with charger all the time when at my desk.

Give a range on 'lightweight' - max weight in kg

No preference on battery life?

I guess I'm fine. But I really hope I can get Max 5 hours 😅

Get 1650 laptop: Illegear Raven or Level51 Forge 15 (low sRGB IPS only for now) - 3-4 hrs battery life

If you're fine with 1050TI:
Dell G7 (8750H+1050TI) - 6-7 hrs battery life, low sRGB IPS, need SSD upgrade, over 2.5kg
Lenovo Legion Y530 81FV00M8MJ - 4-5 hrs battery life

Yeah it's for undergrad. Yup I don't plan to buy ultra powerful one, but 1070/1060 laptops are quite expensive isn't it ?
*
1050Ti would be fine for your undergrad project , some may say 1650 to be slightly faster. Overall , you can find good 1050Ti for a good deal

I know 15' laptop also have some with quite lightweight but usually come with premium price. So i can go with 13' - 14' laptop.

I don't really mind with battery life too much but around 3 - 4 hours of usage can be fine. But hey the more juice it can produce much better.

Last longer = premium business laptop = more expensive

Fine with manual upgrades? (add RAM/SSD by your own)
Fine with carry in warranty? (not onsite)
