QUOTE(jaylim94 @ Dec 26 2018, 08:37 PM) Hi there, RON 95 is just the rating, Gasohol actually has a much higher RON rating. Adding alcohol to gasoline (pure alcohol, dont add vodka drinks) increases the octane rating so if your car needs RON 97 as a minimum you can use it, however depending on the blend, the minimum will be RON 95 .like myself that time driving Proton Saga FLX 2011, before I go I had ask proton about the fuel. But they still ask me to refer manual as I already know that manual state that minimum fuel requirement is RON95. and that time I fuel up at Hatyai (RM4.93 per Litre for Caltex Gold 95) and Trang (RM5.12 per Litre for Caltex Gold 95) my point is, I dont want any trouble regarding car when the car is not at your own territory. Unless you pretty confident your car can survive with that gasohol There are 2 ratings for fuel, the octane rating and the anti knock index. Every engine is designed to run at a minimum of those except diesels. Diesels will run on any heavy hydrocarbons that will only combust under heavy pressure so you can use used cooking oil as long as you process it to the same standards as the diesel at the pump. There is a catch in that you will get significantly less fuel economy with alcohol blended petrol but you can get more power potentially depending on the ECU. A lot of cars will run on this fuel without any modifications but if your car is from the 90s or early 2000s you can check if its designed for other fuels or not. However usually as long as the fuel has the same octane and anti knock index or better than rated for your car you're good to go (for petrol). For diesel however it doesnt matter what fuel you use, but those injectors on newer cars are sensitive, so if you decide to run stuff like cooking oil, make sure to process it to the same fineness as the diesel at the pump, so its going to take precision filters and processing (like ensuring the PH value accurately too). Note that you dont need euro diesel to run your diesel car, the cheap so called crappy diesel at our station pumps will run them fine, no difference in their performance or longevity either. Australia is like us in our diesel quality and they have a lot of people driving diesels, i would not worry even if you have a TDI. Even though ethonal blended fuel will have less range, the difference is price, so just calculate based on mileage or even the car's onboard trip meter and compare to the difference in price. |
