Hi forummers,

Would need a favour from you guys to recommend me a good router for my unifi. I’ve been using unifi for years, couldn’t remember when I start using probably 8-9 yrs ago. Since then I’m using the stock router innacomm rgx4400. Lately after been turboed to 500mbps connection become very bad.

Just for simple website loading it took ages, need frequent restart to reset the connection. I’m looking for a router to replace this. My budget is only around rm500.

Can you guide me which one I can buy? My usage is just mobile gaming sometimes, nextflix wired to my TV, laptop on WiFi, another tv upstairs using WiFi and want to add desktop to my house on WiFi as well. I do download as well from time to time.

Thanks in advance for your recommendation

Another thing is I’m working from home now and and need a stable connection especially using Skype for business, every time I wanted to share screen or even view shared screen it always have en error and only wired connection can solve this. I’m suspecting because of the old router.

One of the forumers here has suggested to get ac2300, I saw from ookas around 550, do you think I can get a good stable connection up to 500mbps using this router or is there any other suggestion

Thanks in advance for your recommendation

Yes. You should have changed the router a long time ago. Get the C2300.

Thank you so much for your feedback, I have read your post including from soonwai & blactubi, you guys have put that very2 well and I understand more around router, WiFi and overall network.

As you have suggested I browse through lazada to buy c2300 but stumble upon this dlink dir-895L which price has been dropped significantly.. I can get around rm830 compared to c2300 rm550.

My question : do you think the 300 increase in price would result in significant difference in terms of performance in my home network.

Device that connected to network at home
1) laptop lenovo thinkpad t480 - capable 5g
2) laptop Lenovo ideapad ultrabook - capable 5g
3) Astro beyond decoder - connect through 5g
4) Sony tv - wired (for Netflix, amazon prime & YouTube)
5) Lg TV 2nd floor (for Netflix, Amazon prime, youtube & astroGo)- capable of 5g
6) iPhone XR- play pubg
7) Xiomi mi max 3 - only 2.4g
8) Ps4 - connect via WiFi 5g

Basically that’s pretty much the client/device that connected to my home network. Do you think that c2300 is enough and stable or dir-895L will bring significant or improve performance for the price

Get the C2300. DIR-895L won’t bring significant or improve performance. If you want something really good, get the C5400X, but that is overkill. C2300 is more than good enough, and you can save your money to buy Deco M5 if you need WAP.

Thanks for your feedback, I’ll have a look as well at deco m5.

Hi Sifu

Just bought c2300 from ookas.. now I’m installing the router but I says failed “internet not connected. Please check if your phone cable is well-connected”

What would be the potential error.

I'm no sifu, but will list down some potential fixes :

1. LAN cable connected to wrong port?
2. UniFi username incorrect
3. VLAN tagging? (I think TPlink has it preconfigured though)
4. DNS error? (Try using other DNS on router, OpenDNS, Google, Cloudflare etc)
*
Thanks for your feedback, check through all and seems like I need to do VLAN tagging after enable HyppTV everything looks fine now.

Wired connection can get 500mbps but on 5g WiFi even though next to the router can only get around 200-230mbps.

Is this normal?

speed of wifi connection is pretty normal. Try testing it on your phone (2-3 year old phone should get u around 300+mbps). On my laptop i'm getting 180mbps through wifi even though im next to router because of my wifi-card limitation  sad.gif

U can opt to upgrade your wifi-card if u want to get full speed, i heard Asus USB-AC68 is a very good USB dongle smile.gif

Or just use wired connection for maximum stability and speed  biggrin.gif

On my iPhone XR I can get around 250.. that’s around similar speed with my old TM stock router..

Nope. Very stable. You will be satisfied with it. Better not have any high expectations about your wifi speed. It depends on your device as well, so even if you have the best router in the world, but your device is not up to it, you won’t get the speed that you want.

Did you use the smart connect functionality at your router?

Just an update on my WiFi speed connection on my iPhone XR.
After play around with the setting in the end I just put auto at my channel and after disabling multi user mimo features WiFi speed on my phone increase to 500mbps which surprised me!

Dear LYN expert,

I’m currently using tp Link c2300 router which perform quite well for my usage. In couple of months I’ll be moving to my own house and I’d need some advise from you guys.

Some points
Internet speed - 500mbps
Device - 1home PC wired, 2 laptops, PS4 and multiple wireless stuff Hp/iPad/Astro/tvs.. up to 12 wifi connection
House type - landed 2stry 2300sqft
New house connection - I have run cat6 cable from where my modem would be to 2nd floor and another 50m cat6 cable from 2nd floor living area to my small office (extended master bedroom)

Question : can I still use my c2300 as something useful later when I move? Or just buy ASUS XD6 or XT8.

Hello guys

I need some advise around my internet setup.. my house around 2500sqft two storey.. right now the router placed at living room downstairs..

1) when I Speedtest using my phone at living room I can get 500mbps
2) I have a Lan cable from living room downstairs to the hall in 2nd floor which I placed a PC.. when I perform Speedtest I can only get up to 96mbps.. I’m not sure what’s the issue here, I already used CAT6 cable and cable all concealed now..
3) my workstation is in my extended bedroom area where I have laptop for work, since this is on wifi the speed is terrible, even normal teams video call is lagging
4) I do run a concealed LAN cable as well from the 2nd floor hall to my workstation - 30metres

Questions
1) what’s the issue on my PC speed, max at 100mbps only using LAN direct from router downstairs (I’m using ac2300) before I moved I can get full speed using LAN at 500mbps
2) I would need to buy a mesh router I guess to placed at 2nd floor hall - this way I can use the cable from the hall to my workstation. Any suggestion for mesh router? Would ASUS XD6 sufficient or I need XT8 or any other recommendation

Hello All,

Just to share my findings on my issues and some updates;

1) My current Ethernet connection direct from router downstairs to 2nd floor only limited to 100mbps most probably due to the cable twisting inside my wall, some CAT6 cable if it’s twisted it may cap at 100mbps. Lesson learned : if you need long Ethernet cable more than 15metres and concealed better buy high quality cable.
2) I just bought Asus XT8 and complete my setup earlier. Findings compared to my previous archer2300

- wifi speed at living room downstairs where my router is placed
Archer c2300 - 530mbps
XT8 - 470mbps

- wifi speed at 2nd floor hall (this is where my PC currently max at 100mbps using Ethernet direct from router downstairs). I placed my XT8 node here
Archer - 60mbps
XT8- 400mbps

- my bedroom
Archer - 30mbps
XT8- 300mbps

-my workstation (laptop) another wall from bedroom
Archer - 5mbps
XT8 - 270mbps

Overall, my wifi connection improve significantly and I end up not using all the Ethernet cable that I run from downstairs to hall upstairs and from the hall to my workstation.

XT8 is a really good Aimesh router, I’m super impressed with the performance and the only thing I’m surprised is c2300 can get better speed downstairs compared to XT8.
