Hi, i just bought tp link c2300. Need advice on below:

1. Smart Connect
- i turn on smart connect but 2 of my phone samsung s7 and note 5 auto connect @ 2.4ghz instead of 5g most of the time. Ipad is auto connect @ 5ghz.
Any idea why it does not connect @ 5ghz, all in same room with 1 wall.

2. I place the router in middle 1st floor, i notice that coverage in ground floor signal for 5ghz is not good, < 50mb. Is it normal 5ghz not good to cover 2 storey for different floor? (2.4ghz coverage is good even in ground floor.

Thanks

1. Can't answer for this one

2. The thing about 5GHz is that it provides faster connection at a shorter distance than 2.4GHz. It is also won't perform well if it has to go through concrete wall(s).

Thanks for reply.
Yes, you are correct. 5ghz only for short distance which i believe this is the reason why different floor signal drop a lot.
2.4ghz can cover whole house both ground and 1st floor without issue.

For smart connect, will monitor and see.

For your reference.
I'm using unifi 100mbps, TPLink C2300, 2 storey house too, router at 1st floor center living space.
2.4ghz can cover whole house with max 100mbps except grand floor toilet (closed door) at corner, about 10-20 mbps.
5ghz can cover 1st floor with strong signal and speed, but ground floor cannot cover all corner and speed < 100mbps.

Therefore, if you are ok with 2.4ghz to cover whole house is good enough. (Which i doing now)
If you prefer 5ghz, you may need go towards mesh wifi.

Hi folks,

Been using the useless stock dlink black can for my turbo 500mb since day one.
Only uses WiFi 2.4g as my pc PCI only accepts 2.4.
Usual speed test 11mb for PCI
Usual speed test 20mb for mobile phone
I don't use 5ghz because no range at all.

Sick of it as I always have to restart both modem and router after 3 hours because the speed will drop to 2mb etc. Recently even worse, ping test will drop connection loss.. after restart still below 1mb. I think maybe lighting strikes caused the router to be faulty.
I am the only user.

Been reading the threads here and combing the e-commerce stores. Still very confused what to get

1. Decent range for 5ghz for double storey.
2. Hope to get at least 50mb on WiFi 2.4ghz if possible
3. Suitable for hypptv
4. Budget wise, thinking below 300, maybe A6 archer. Spending nearly 600 on c2300 really hard for me to swallow.
5. I still need the white modem right?
Thanks everyone!

Hi, I'm using c2300. Can answer few of ur question.
1. 5ghz even c2300 cannot cover double storey. 2.4ghz yes. 5ghz coverage suggest go for mesh wifi.
2. I place my router in 1st floor center open living area. 2.4ghz u can get mostly 100mbps even in different floor. For ground floor corner or close door still ablt to get 20 to 30mbps.
3. Not using hypptv so no comment
4. Maybe can get review from other for A6 or A9.
5. Yes. Modem remain. Replace router only.

If you want single router can get c2300 on 2.4ghz. Or else cheaper router + mesh wifi for 5ghz coverage.

Hope it helps.

For mesh wifi tp link m9 plus, x20 or x60.
Is it better to remain the unifi default router, mesh wifi connect to default router.
Or dont use default router, direct use mesh wifi unit as router?

Replace Unifi Default is the best option as it is using different SSID. This will cause WiFi interference.

Thanks.

So it's direct use mesh wifi main unit as router right?

Are you testing on the main unit?

If you are referring to wireless backhaul mesh node performance, you'll need at least AX6600 tri-band to reach 500Mbps reliably.

You should be able to get at least 500Mbps on the main unit effortlessly.

How about deco x60 v3.2 ax5400?
Able to get 500mbps at mesh node?
