Hi Sifus over here, need recommendation on router and advice / suggestion as well.
I got a post on other Topic link (https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/4670024/+6660#) but not really got good response over there.

House type: Condo
Size of house: 1824 Square feet (can refer below image)
Attached Image
Number of devices connected to WiFi: 10+
Internet Speed: 500mbps Time internet
Budget: Below 1k ? No need to be overkill la, spend as needed thumbup.gif
Usage : Netflix stream & gaming. Work from home
Feature : Want to try to get near to 500mbps on WiFi in my living room, good WiFi coverage on bedrooms area, currently bedroom 1 areas even 2.4Ghz is like on edge of DC-ing & speed is lower than 50mbps.

If referring the image above, red circle is where the Time provided ONU placed, green cross is where I plan to put the router at since that is the only network port in this house doh.gif

TIME provided ONU 5Ghz WiFi can only get 250-350mbps most of the times even tested beside the ONU. While on wired, can get above 500mbps.

My house currently has a TV box which my family watch Netflix & stream movie most of the time. Most of us are working from home now & e-learning too. I got a laptop which support WiFi 6 (AX201), if can i want utilize this also if possible.

I still have my previous UniFi router (D-LINK DIR842) with me, do I need to return this to UniFi after the termination notice period ? If not, this can use ? My previous setup was UniFi 300mbps, DIR842 + TP-Link RE200 (not really satisfy with the extended wifi speed but serve it purpose of extend wifi range... )

Sifus here please give advice. Thank you

Noname95 By looking on the floorplan, I can expect that you have a really poor performance in your master bedroom.

Your case is a situation where there's a ton wall that's due to the layout of your home.

Try to check if there's an existing Ethernet link to any of the bedrooms by the developer.

If not, you will need a mesh WiFi system but I am not sure whether it is possible to put the mesh node outside the corridor to your bedroom while another unit remain on the TV rack.
*
Yeah. Master bedroom WiFi performance is very bad now.

Unfortunately, there is no other Ethernet port in any of the bedrooms. The corridor has no electrical outlet too sweat.gif. Last time was using TP-Link RE200 to extend WiFi signal from bedrooms 3 (guest / study room) so that Bedrooms 2 & 5 could have stable connection

Actually I'm okay if bedrooms able to get good WiFi coverage & optimal speed, just the living room area need to have stable 500mbps

Judging by your layout, since there's no wall between your living area and Kitchen where your ONU is, router placed at the kitchen should be able to reliably transmit to all devices at the living area without much drop in speed.

For me if you don't need max speed at the bedroom consider putting a mesh node in either Bedroom 2 or Masterbed Room, connected via Ethernet Powerline.

Bedroom 4 is screwed though, but judging from the floor plan it looks more like storeroom than a bedroom.

So for me personally I would go like the below setup :

Main Router (At Kitchen) - Asus AX3000 - RM679
Mesh Node (Master Bedroom or Bedroom 2) - Asus AX55 - RM345
Powerline - TP-LINK PA4010P AV600 Passthrough Powerline Starter Kit - RM165

At retail will bust your budget but if you can wait for sales the AX55 can go around RM250 and AX3000 can go below RM600. But just take my recommendations with grain of salt, since I'm already used to asus routers. TPlink probably can give you more value for money options.

Actually, the main reason getting new router is because the 5Ghz WiFi cannot give good speed. It fluctuate between 230mbps - 350mbps, my laptop connected it from the dining table, while 2Ghz one mostly below 100mbps.

Below attached is my ONU location ... Quite sad actually. cry.gif

Can I put the main router at TV Rack ? There is a network port there.

First time heard of this Ethernet Powerline. It provide same stability like Wired connection ?

Bedroom 4 actually there was someone staying there previously, we rent it out.

Getting a reliable 500Mbps on the living room is easy, even a cheap TP-Link Archer AX20 can ahieve that.

The challenging part is getting reliable coverage in your bedrooms. If the Ethernet jack from the cabinet to the TV rack is working, you certainly able to use that and put the router there.

The powerline solution suggested by Mixxomon is worth exploring. However, most condo(s), especially bigger ones are powered by 3-phase power. Perhaps you need to check on that first.

Since your budget is higher, I will recommend the ASUS TUF-AX3000 router coupled with the TP-Link TL-WPA8630P powerline wireless extender KIT.

I personally used the TL-WPA8630P KIT in an apartment with 3-phase power and it manages to provide me with a reliable 120Mbps WiFi network reliably on the extension end.
*
Alright ! Seems ASUS TUF-AX3000 been recommended by 2 people, I'll take a look on it. Market price for this is around RM6XX ? See if I can tahan till offer period then lol.gif

About the 3-phase power, how do I check it yea ? icon_question.gif

Btw, the difference between TP-LINK PA4010P AV600 & TP-Link TL-WPA8630P powerline wireless extender KIT recommended by you is one got WiFi while another dont have right ?

Thank you all for the router recommendation !!! thumbup.gif

Just be aware AX3000 (sometimes even called AX58U) and AX3000 TUF Gaming are two different models. Same hardware but TUF Gaming got more gaming based support in its UI.

Oh for the 3-phase power, you can roughly tell based on your home fuse box. If there's only one main fuse then it's one phase, if got 3 then 3 phase. From there you can also tell if two plugs is in the same phase.
*
Ohh ... Will take note of that. Thanks for pointing that out. Price wise TUF Gaming one are higher right ? Other than that, no need to worry if I get the wrong model ?

3-phase power looks like this ?

Thank you

Hi bro,
At the end what's your solution? I saw you bought AX3000. What other devices to resolve the Wifi coverage issue?
*
Hi, just the TUF-AX3000 router itself can cover most house area with 2.4Ghz WiFI, 5.0Ghz area that almost edge of house then can't

One day you might want to consider place the AX3000 at green X via PowerLine adapters (subject to good PLC rate). Keeping the Wifi router in kitchen far away from house centre is a waste.
*
My router currently placed at green X, red circle is where the 2 in 1 modem provided by Time placed

How you link the 2 in 1 modem and AX3000?
*
The red circle has a SoHO box, the modem 1st LAN port is connected to a port on the SoHo box which is connected to a Ethernet port near my TV console, which also where my router is.

I thought there is no LAN point in any rooms.  blush.gif

Yeah. I did mention got a LAN point in living room right ? Other room don't have any LAN point. Those room need user powerline adapter if want good internet speed, 5Ghz in living can only cover nearby rooms
