HI, first time mum and dad here. Finally we are entering second trimester and I feel so much better, so now I am working on what should we buy to prepare for little one's arrival.

Here is my initial list and hope anyone will comment or suggest a brand/series. This is our first time and we basically compile the list from what we heard from friends, so please correct me if the list is wrong. We had went to baby mummy shops but the range so big and we don't know how to budget for them.

1. Electronic Breast Pump - Medela/Avent? Is RM500 enough to buy a good one?
2. Baby Cot (wood) - probably going to buy 2, one for our home and one for the nanny's house. Planning to buy second hand through online.
3. Baby Seat - going for the 0 - 8 years type, not the baby capsule type since the capsule can only be use for 6 months. (budget: <1.5K?)
4. Playpen - for bringing along when we travel or go back hometown
5. Baby bath tub - just any brand will do right? We are looking at Ikea's

6. Baby bath tub stand - is it better to have this? I wonder if it's stable enough.

user posted image

7. Baby bath support - is the clip on better or the type we straight away put inside the tub?

user posted image

8. Baby blanket - done, we bought the zip type
9. Baby mattress

10. Diaper changing mat

user posted image

11. Won't be buying diaper changing table cause I already have a spare table with drawers. So I will just change diapers on it and keep the diapers handy inside the drawers.

12. Baby stroller - looking at Combi brand. How much should I budget for this if I am looking for something less than 5kg.

13. Newborn diapers - probably got covered because my friend had bought too much. smile.gif

14. Feeding bottle - which one is good Tommy Tipee, Avent or any brand? Glass or non-glass? Or I should wait after baby's birth since I will be latching while on maternity leave.

15. Sterilizer. Some friends say it's a must, some say just use hot water. Which one to believe? What brand to recommend? My budget is RM200+-.

16. Milk warmer. Actually very concern about this cos some friends commented it takes too long and their babies are impatient to wait even for seconds.

17. Baby clothing - shouldn't be an issue cause many friends already offer to pass us all their baby clothes. Can add on new ones when he arrives.

These are all I can think of, but I guess I am still missing some? rclxub.gif rclxub.gif

Added:
18. Thermometer

19. Pacifier

20. Yuyi oil

21. Baby carrier

22. Baby monitor

plan your budget bro. im first timer too. do the calculation before u buy to me no need branded one la.

I can't plan a budget until I can see the feedback. The price range is so big. I don't want to save money but getting very poor quality item or the item broke down so soon. But at the same time, not going to go for too expensive item.

2. You dont need a 2nd cot. Most nannny will provide a playpen for newborn but its best if you get your own.

I recently bought 4moms breeze plus, its probrably the most portable playpen, bassinet acts as a changing table.

12. Ive yet to get a stroller as well, looking at Babyzen yoyo+ for portability but it has no leg rest, but its super easy to move manuever around, might consider Quinny Zapp Flex Plus for more added comfort with the - of portability.

14. Avoid Tommy Tipee at all cost laugh.gif  , currently using pigeon.

16. I have a portable warmer (bean) but its not that good and take 15 mins to warm the milk up, instead i just use hot water from my cuckoo dispenser and dip the bottle with milk to warm it up quickly. Anyone has recommendation for milk warmer?
*
Thanks I will have a look at 4moms breeze playpen. Quinny Zapp, it does not come with the 'baby basket' right, cause I will have to add on right?

You just confirmed for me that I won't buy a milk warmer. rclxms.gif I think I will just use my electric kettle and boil water (only take a few seconds) to warm the milk bottle.

Congratz on being a first time parent! Below are my comments:
1) My wife used Medela before but it was spoilt so we changed to Spectra S1 breastpump. Still working though but we seldom use it now coz my young child prefer sucking directly. - Between these 2, which on is performing better?

2) We got a wooden baby cot from a friend but we never put the baby inside coz all my children prefer to sleep on the bed or the baby hammock (yao lan). The baby cot is used to put baby stuff, lol..

3) I would suggest u to buy the Chicco Nextfit zip. U can check their Malaysia Chicco facebook for warehouse sales. Btw, wat car are u driving? Do u plan to put another car seat in future? Will u need to ferry an full size adult too? Saga and Alza, but most probably use Alza for taking baby around. So I won't install a baby seat in Saga.

4) I am using the Summer Infant Pop n' Play Portable Playpen. It is very portable and light. The only con is that the base is just a piece of cloth. I normally put the playpen on a carpet, sponge carpet, bed, etc so my child wont hurt when fall down.
http://www.mothercare.com.sg/summer-infant...le-playpen.html

5) Just any brand of baby bath tub will do. No need to buy from ikea, lol.. Cos Ikea's cheaper than the one we saw at Aeon.

6) I rather put the baby bath tub on the floor. More safer.

7) We use the rubber baby bath support which is place inside the baby bath tub.

10) We bought the rubber dimple diaper changing mat.

12) I have bought two strollers (Silver cross and GB Pockit+). We seldom use it coz my kids dont like it. They always want us to carry. Now they can walk, even worst. Most of the time, the stroller carry our baby bag instead of our child. - Is there any reason your kids don't like sitting in the stroller? Too warm?

14) We prefer baby glass bottle coz it is easier to clean and can last very long. But handle with care coz we already broke 5 glass bottles in total amd it is not cheap. We use the Basilic Glass milk bottle. We changed the silicon nipple to the Pigeon Soft Touch Peristaltic Plus Nipple. Remember to buy a pouch for the glass milk bottle so it wont break so easily. - Will consider glass bottle for own use then and probably PPSU type for nanny. Pigeon seems to be very popular choice here..

15) We didn't use any Sterilizer. We just wash and use hot water to rinse.  thumbsup.gif

16) Just dip the milk bottle into a cup of hot water for a while. No need to buy a milk warmer.

Other things i would recommend u to buy is:
a) Silicon bottle brush
https://www.littlewhiz.com/pd-lucky-baby-si...ottle-brush.cfm

b) Lekebaby bag. Alot of compartments and quite stylish.
*I purchased from Lazada.

c) Britax Back seat mirror (install on your car)
https://www.amazon.com/Britax-S864600-Back-...r/dp/B008HCXIU2

U can check out littlewhiz website. They sell a bunch of baby stuff there. But i prefer to walk-in coz it is not very far from my house.
*
Thanks. For car seat, we had visited baby product shops and the salesperson told us we can just buy the car seat 0-8 years, which is the type without basket. Can soft newborn really sit there? hmm.gif

remember to buy milk powder for 0-12 months.
cause first 2 weeks will be very less or no milk.
diapers don't buy too much yet, your baby may allergic to certain brand.
for breast pump, buy dual type thus pump faster.
*
For formula, I plan to get samples from major brands. If really no breast milk, then start feeding with the samples and see which one fits him? Is this workable?

Which dual pump you would recommend? I saw Avent >1K while other brands (Pigeon if I am not mistaken) is cheaper.

Yes, there are convertible or all-in-one type child car seat that can fit new born. But always refer to the manual.
I dont really trust the words of Salesperson when it comes to child car seat. Some are even inexperienced and give wrong info. I encountered such incident before. Ever since, i do my own research and study more about child car seats. Now i just go to those baby store and ask how much is the child car seat model i want. If the price is right, i will see if it can fit my car or not.
*
Thanks for the pointers.

yes it is workable and make sure your baby poo everyday  but not diarrhea.
wife is using avent, never try other brand before so no comment.

one more thing, if your wife is having placenta previa: https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditi...es/syc-20352768
then you should goto GH instead of private cause it will be a costly deliver.  GH will make your wife sleeps in hospital till 38th week
*
No worry, we had already fix appointment for FPP at a GH in November.

We will skip spring cot and try to let baby get used to baby cot. My mum used to help people babysit, and I can say 90% of them experienced falling off the sarung (even when we just turn around to go toilet for a few minute).
But Yuyi oil, definitely.

Ts, how many weeks is your wife now?

Likelt for a year, not advisable for baby to go out of the house to avoid virus infection. Their immune system is low. So don't have to buy pram yet

I'm considering similac brand for baby..

I also heard it's good for mom, but my gynae has r advise me what milk brand to drink. My church friend drink lots of soya bean and her baby's skin became so beautiful even until today (6 or 7 years old now). She looks exceptionally with really good skin due to her mom taken lots of soya bean. I might want to do that too after informing my gynae during my next visit.

I would recommend to use Avent brand as it's a reknown brand and you don't go wrong with branded stuffs lol

The rest of the items, I'm not too worried to buy as just yet.

The hankerchief must buy more.. baby tend to smile and milk drooling from mouth. And they tend to vomit milk from their mouth every now and then

The bolster and pillow try to buy minimum two sets. Else, once baby gets use to it, they forever want it and then you have to wash it with lots of care else got germs. Especially when they grow older, they drag their soft toys and pillow/bolster everywhere. So I'm considering to get two sets

And don't ever let them play phone. Let this generation live like ours, without phone when we are small

owh ya, dont forget the baby expo end of this month. (this coming Saturday & Sunday) at Mid valley.

there's a lot of baby expo, the TCE Baby Expo and Today's baby expo are one of the biggest i guess.

and they have it a few times a year.

End of last month also got one, not end of this month is another. i know upcoming TCE baby expo is in Mid valley as well in late November.

perhaps you can window shop first, then buy it next time?
or just go and buy also if u think u need to.
*
Thanks for reminding. I plan to window shop this Sunday at the expo and work out my budget. I have the tendency to impulse buying so need to be careful. Probably only purchase things in November expo once I work out what exact brand/model I want and within budget.

Thanks. Is it recommended to buy 6 at one time or buy one to test first? Buy all in 0-3mth size? Or a mixture? I am considering buying starter package.

Is this useful?

Yup, btw don’t buy Tommie tippee, I regret buying this brand.

My friend recommends Simba cause it solved his son's colic issue. But it's expensive about RM60-70 each.

I am also looking at Kuku and Pigeon PPSU range.

I just talked to hubby about not buying stroller first and he's like, "what to do if you have to bring bb to doctor appointment by yourself?"

Yep.. we agreed to take turn to bring bb to injection and appointments. Hubby can carry the baby seater basket, but if I am alone, I am not sure I can carry that or using the baby carrier. I have lower back pain.
That day I saw a lady bringing her baby alone and she was using stroller, not only to put bb, also to put her milk bottle, supplies and handbag. Seems like a lot if she didn't have the stroller.

U plan to buy both separately? Normally baby shops have package for both cot and mattress, and they offer in cheaper prices. smile.gif

Yup they have package. Just thinking when I need to buy replacement mattress, don't want the hassle of looking all over the place. But recently at baby fair I see that the normal size is 60X120 and another bigger one. 2 standard sizes.

It’s a platform for seller to sell stuffs. U may check if the seller has a shop then u can visit to view the item.

Yeap u can easily find the standard size 60x120. If u think u might want to change mattress in the future, then survey on mattress first, roughly get some idea where / which brand u can get the mattress based on the required size. I saw a lot r selling bumble bee brand latex mattress. My lo was using Geetha latex, they have both 60x120, 70x130cm. Btw my lo refused to sleep on her cot since 14m. So I’m now looking for foldable queen size bed for her to sleep on the floor 😆

How’s other items in your shopping list? Almost done? 😄 If u are able to fork out extra budget for steriliser then go for UV type. Really save a lot of time.
*
The other items on shopping list? Actually we've barely bought half of them. Instead we bought a lot of things that are not in the list blink.gif
This is what happen when I go to an expo. Too many things to see and I lost focus. bangwall.gif while hubby is the type who's ok with anything.
