HI, first time mum and dad here. Finally we are entering second trimester and I feel so much better, so now I am working on what should we buy to prepare for little one's arrival.

Here is my initial list and hope anyone will comment or suggest a brand/series. This is our first time and we basically compile the list from what we heard from friends, so please correct me if the list is wrong. We had went to baby mummy shops but the range so big and we don't know how to budget for them.

1. Electronic Breast Pump - Medela/Avent? Is RM500 enough to buy a good one?
2. Baby Cot (wood) - probably going to buy 2, one for our home and one for the nanny's house. Planning to buy second hand through online.
3. Baby Seat - going for the 0 - 8 years type, not the baby capsule type since the capsule can only be use for 6 months. (budget: <1.5K?)
4. Playpen - for bringing along when we travel or go back hometown
5. Baby bath tub - just any brand will do right? We are looking at Ikea's

6. Baby bath tub stand - is it better to have this? I wonder if it's stable enough.

user posted image

7. Baby bath support - is the clip on better or the type we straight away put inside the tub?

user posted image

8. Baby blanket - done, we bought the zip type
9. Baby mattress

10. Diaper changing mat

user posted image

11. Won't be buying diaper changing table cause I already have a spare table with drawers. So I will just change diapers on it and keep the diapers handy inside the drawers.

12. Baby stroller - looking at Combi brand. How much should I budget for this if I am looking for something less than 5kg.

13. Newborn diapers - probably got covered because my friend had bought too much. smile.gif

14. Feeding bottle - which one is good Tommy Tipee, Avent or any brand? Glass or non-glass? Or I should wait after baby's birth since I will be latching while on maternity leave.

15. Sterilizer. Some friends say it's a must, some say just use hot water. Which one to believe? What brand to recommend? My budget is RM200+-.

16. Milk warmer. Actually very concern about this cos some friends commented it takes too long and their babies are impatient to wait even for seconds.

17. Baby clothing - shouldn't be an issue cause many friends already offer to pass us all their baby clothes. Can add on new ones when he arrives.

These are all I can think of, but I guess I am still missing some? rclxub.gif rclxub.gif

Added:
18. Thermometer

19. Pacifier

20. Yuyi oil

21. Baby carrier

22. Baby monitor

I can't plan a budget until I can see the feedback. The price range is so big. I don't want to save money but getting very poor quality item or the item broke down so soon. But at the same time, not going to go for too expensive item.

2. You dont need a 2nd cot. Most nannny will provide a playpen for newborn but its best if you get your own.

I recently bought 4moms breeze plus, its probrably the most portable playpen, bassinet acts as a changing table.

12. Ive yet to get a stroller as well, looking at Babyzen yoyo+ for portability but it has no leg rest, but its super easy to move manuever around, might consider Quinny Zapp Flex Plus for more added comfort with the - of portability.

14. Avoid Tommy Tipee at all cost laugh.gif , currently using pigeon.

16. I have a portable warmer (bean) but its not that good and take 15 mins to warm the milk up, instead i just use hot water from my cuckoo dispenser and dip the bottle with milk to warm it up quickly. Anyone has recommendation for milk warmer?

Congratz on being a first time parent! Below are my comments:
1) My wife used Medela before but it was spoilt so we changed to Spectra S1 breastpump. Still working though but we seldom use it now coz my young child prefer sucking directly.

2) We got a wooden baby cot from a friend but we never put the baby inside coz all my children prefer to sleep on the bed or the baby hammock (yao lan). The baby cot is used to put baby stuff, lol..

3) I would suggest u to buy the Chicco Nextfit zip. U can check their Malaysia Chicco facebook for warehouse sales. Btw, wat car are u driving? Do u plan to put another car seat in future? Will u need to ferry an full size adult too?

4) I am using the Summer Infant Pop n' Play Portable Playpen. It is very portable and light. The only con is that the base is just a piece of cloth. I normally put the playpen on a carpet, sponge carpet, bed, etc so my child wont hurt when fall down.
http://www.mothercare.com.sg/summer-infant...le-playpen.html

5) Just any brand of baby bath tub will do. No need to buy from ikea, lol..

6) I rather put the baby bath tub on the floor. More safer.

7) We use the rubber baby bath support which is place inside the baby bath tub.

10) We bought the rubber dimple diaper changing mat.

12) I have bought two strollers (Silver cross and GB Pockit+). We seldom use it coz my kids dont like it. They always want us to carry. Now they can walk, even worst. Most of the time, the stroller carry our baby bag instead of our child.

14) We prefer baby glass bottle coz it is easier to clean and can last very long. But handle with care coz we already broke 5 glass bottles in total amd it is not cheap. We use the Basilic Glass milk bottle. We changed the silicon nipple to the Pigeon Soft Touch Peristaltic Plus Nipple. Remember to buy a pouch for the glass milk bottle so it wont break so easily.

15) We didn't use any Sterilizer. We just wash and use hot water to rinse.

16) Just dip the milk bottle into a cup of hot water for a while. No need to buy a milk warmer.

Other things i would recommend u to buy is:
a) Silicon bottle brush
https://www.littlewhiz.com/pd-lucky-baby-si...ottle-brush.cfm

b) Lekebaby bag. Alot of compartments and quite stylish.
*I purchased from Lazada.

c) Britax Back seat mirror (install on your car)
https://www.amazon.com/Britax-S864600-Back-...r/dp/B008HCXIU2

U can check out littlewhiz website. They sell a bunch of baby stuff there. But i prefer to walk-in coz it is not very far from my house.

Thanks I will have a look at 4moms breeze playpen. Quinny Zapp, it does not come with the 'baby basket' right, cause I will have to add on right?

You just confirmed for me that I won't buy a milk warmer. rclxms.gif I think I will just use my electric kettle and boil water (only take a few seconds) to warm the milk bottle.

1) My wife used Medela before but it was spoilt so we changed to Spectra S1 breastpump. Still working though but we seldom use it now coz my young child prefer sucking directly. - Between these 2, which on is performing better?

2) We got a wooden baby cot from a friend but we never put the baby inside coz all my children prefer to sleep on the bed or the baby hammock (yao lan). The baby cot is used to put baby stuff, lol..

3) I would suggest u to buy the Chicco Nextfit zip. U can check their Malaysia Chicco facebook for warehouse sales. Btw, wat car are u driving? Do u plan to put another car seat in future? Will u need to ferry an full size adult too? Saga and Alza, but most probably use Alza for taking baby around. So I won't install a baby seat in Saga.

Cos Ikea's cheaper than the one we saw at Aeon.

- Is there any reason your kids don't like sitting in the stroller? Too warm?

14) We prefer baby glass bottle coz it is easier to clean and can last very long. But handle with care coz we already broke 5 glass bottles in total amd it is not cheap. We use the Basilic Glass milk bottle. We changed the silicon nipple to the Pigeon Soft Touch Peristaltic Plus Nipple. Remember to buy a pouch for the glass milk bottle so it wont break so easily. - Will consider glass bottle for own use then and probably PPSU type for nanny. Pigeon seems to be very popular choice here..

15) We didn't use any Sterilizer. We just wash and use hot water to rinse.  thumbsup.gif

16) Just dip the milk bottle into a cup of hot water for a while. No need to buy a milk warmer.

Thanks. For car seat, we had visited baby product shops and the salesperson told us we can just buy the car seat 0-8 years, which is the type without basket. Can soft newborn really sit there? hmm.gif

remember to buy milk powder for 0-12 months.
cause first 2 weeks will be very less or no milk.
diapers don't buy too much yet, your baby may allergic to certain brand.
for breast pump, buy dual type thus pump faster.

For formula, I plan to get samples from major brands. If really no breast milk, then start feeding with the samples and see which one fits him? Is this workable?

Which dual pump you would recommend? I saw Avent >1K while other brands (Pigeon if I am not mistaken) is cheaper.

Yes, there are convertible or all-in-one type child car seat that can fit new born. But always refer to the manual.
I dont really trust the words of Salesperson when it comes to child car seat. Some are even inexperienced and give wrong info. I encountered such incident before. Ever since, i do my own research and study more about child car seats. Now i just go to those baby store and ask how much is the child car seat model i want. If the price is right, i will see if it can fit my car or not.

I agree with you about Tommee Tippee. 🤭

Btw, you can keep hot water in the flask to warm your milk.

then you should goto GH instead of private cause it will be a costly deliver. GH will make your wife sleeps in hospital till 38th week

1. Electronic Breast Pump - Medela/Avent? Is RM500 enough to buy a good one? 500 not enuf. look at around 700 for single. 1000-1300 for double. I dont care between the 2, but my wife prefer medela

2. Baby Cot (wood) - probably going to buy 2, one for our home and one for the nanny's house. Planning to buy second hand through online. 1 is enuf

3. Baby Seat - going for the 0 - 8 years type, not the baby capsule type since the capsule can only be use for 6 months. (budget: <1.5K?) <500 will do just fine

4. Playpen - for bringing along when we travel or go back hometown No need. Just give them normal toys

5. Baby bath tub - just any brand will do right? We are looking at Ikea's You can get a cheaper one at hardware shop

6. Baby bath tub stand - is it better to have this? I wonder if it's stable enough. Probably not, scared if fall

7. Baby bath support - is the clip on better or the type we straight away put inside the tub? The normal one will do, learn the technique and you'll be fine

8. Baby blanket - done, we bought the zip type  thumbsup.gif

9. Baby mattress Yep, need this

10. Diaper changing mat Any water proof mat will do. Dont really need a fancy one

11. Won't be buying diaper changing table cause I already have a spare table with drawers. So I will just change diapers on it and keep the diapers handy inside the drawers.  thumbsup.gif

12. Baby stroller - looking at Combi brand. How much should I budget for this if I am looking for something less than 5kg. Dont buy first. Not all baby like to be put in stroller. But since you use car seat, maybe he/she will like it. But me, I dont have one, my wife prefer baby carrier. Easier to pack/bring/jalan-jalan

13. Newborn diapers - probably got covered because my friend had bought too much.  thumbsup.gif

14. Feeding bottle - which one is good Tommy Tipee, Avent or any brand? Glass or non-glass? Or I should wait after baby's birth since I will be latching while on maternity leave. We use pigeon bottle, but after a while, change to no brand. My baby last time dont like either TT or Avent.

15. Sterilizer. Some friends say it's a must, some say just use hot water. Which one to believe? What brand to recommend? My budget is RM200+-. Its convenient to have one, but not a must

16. Milk warmer. Actually very concern about this cos some friends commented it takes too long and their babies are impatient to wait even for seconds. Just use hot water, even faster. So, dont need

17. Baby clothing - shouldn't be an issue cause many friends already offer to pass us all their baby clothes. Can add on new ones when he arrives. Avoid branded one. They will grow up so fast. Unless u r buying for special occasion like CNY/Raya/Deepavali or birthday

18. Spring cot?

19. Ointment, minyak yuyi and etc smile.gif

These are all I can think of, but I guess I am still missing some?  rclxub.gif  rclxub.gif

We will skip spring cot and try to let baby get used to baby cot. My mum used to help people babysit, and I can say 90% of them experienced falling off the sarung (even when we just turn around to go toilet for a few minute).
But Yuyi oil, definitely.

Trying to buy the essentials first before tummy got big and tired to shop.
I will check out the baby expo this month. Maybe grab the car seat, stroller and pump first.
Thanks.

Due early Feb19.
Trying to buy the essentials first before tummy got big and tired to shop.
I will check out the baby expo this month. Maybe grab the car seat, stroller and pump first.
Thanks.

yeah, stroller? check around. perhaps buy a cheap one for the first one if u really feel u need to buy one?

if not, just buy after baby is born.

i bought 3, when my baby not even 1 year old yet.
(this is something i regret)

so i sold one and now i have 2. one for around home use ( we live in a condo ) and another for car/travelling purposes.

car seat, perhaps find one that can be use from newborn up to 2 or 3 years.

Pump? bought for my wife, in the end use it a little and then now no use at all.
my son directly latches onto my wife everytime. now that my wife is no longer working.
Will the mother be working? plan to start working again after delivery? then u need a pump.

there are a few shops where u can actually try the machine. i suggest u go and try.
again, best would be when u lactating milk (after delivery).

Again, i bought 2. one before birth, just in case ( a cheap one ) and another one after my wife start producing milk properly.

1. Breast Pump : we are using Spectra M1 + Freemie as it can be handfree

3. We bought Joie Every stage about 1.1k, can sit 0 to 12 years old

14. Feeding bottle: We used Pigeon, and for storage bottle for breastmilk

15. We didn't really use any sterilizer, mom used hot water, we just use Pigeon cleanser (that kill 99% germs) and kept in closed dish rack

16. If allowed, don't use hot water to warm milk as it might kill nutrients in milk, need to warm the milk earlier and keep warm for unfinished milk

We don't really use stroller when the baby grow bigger as stroller is troublesome to bring along, baby carrier will do just fine

Ts, how many weeks is your wife now?

Likelt for a year, not advisable for baby to go out of the house to avoid virus infection. Their immune system is low. So don't have to buy pram yet

I'm considering similac brand for baby..

I also heard it's good for mom, but my gynae has r advise me what milk brand to drink. My church friend drink lots of soya bean and her baby's skin became so beautiful even until today (6 or 7 years old now). She looks exceptionally with really good skin due to her mom taken lots of soya bean. I might want to do that too after informing my gynae during my next visit.

I would recommend to use Avent brand as it's a reknown brand and you don't go wrong with branded stuffs lol

The rest of the items, I'm not too worried to buy as just yet.

The hankerchief must buy more.. baby tend to smile and milk drooling from mouth. And they tend to vomit milk from their mouth every now and then

The bolster and pillow try to buy minimum two sets. Else, once baby gets use to it, they forever want it and then you have to wash it with lots of care else got germs. Especially when they grow older, they drag their soft toys and pillow/bolster everywhere. So I'm considering to get two sets

And don't ever let them play phone. Let this generation live like ours, without phone when we are small

owh ya, dont forget the baby expo end of this month. (this coming Saturday & Sunday) at Mid valley.

there's a lot of baby expo, the TCE Baby Expo and Today's baby expo are one of the biggest i guess.

and they have it a few times a year.

End of last month also got one, not end of this month is another. i know upcoming TCE baby expo is in Mid valley as well in late November.

perhaps you can window shop first, then buy it next time?
or just go and buy also if u think u need to.

Thanks for reminding. I plan to window shop this Sunday at the expo and work out my budget. I have the tendency to impulse buying so need to be careful. Probably only purchase things in November expo once I work out what exact brand/model I want and within budget.

this weekend is Today's Baby Expo and in November is TCE Baby Expo.

But mostly same companies and same brands will join.
If you go this Sunday, and see something u want to buy in November, do ask them if they will join the one in November.
If they will join, then u can buy in November, if not, then maybe u need to buy there n then.

Thanks. Is it recommended to buy 6 at one time or buy one to test first? Buy all in 0-3mth size? Or a mixture? I am considering buying starter package.

My friend recommends Simba cause it solved his son's colic issue. But it's expensive about RM60-70 each.

I am also looking at Kuku and Pigeon PPSU range.

I just talked to hubby about not buying stroller first and he's like, "what to do if you have to bring bb to doctor appointment by yourself?"

Yep.. we agreed to take turn to bring bb to injection and appointments. Hubby can carry the baby seater basket, but if I am alone, I am not sure I can carry that or using the baby carrier. I have lower back pain.
That day I saw a lady bringing her baby alone and she was using stroller, not only to put bb, also to put her milk bottle, supplies and handbag. Seems like a lot if she didn't have the stroller.

Yeap stroller can buy later when u think it’s needed. We bought an expensive one but seldom use. (Cause we rarely go out for long hour shopping etc). Baby carrier is more useful and convenient. Get a good one.

Yup they have package. Just thinking when I need to buy replacement mattress, don't want the hassle of looking all over the place. But recently at baby fair I see that the normal size is 60X120 and another bigger one. 2 standard sizes.

Yeap u can easily find the standard size 60x120. If u think u might want to change mattress in the future, then survey on mattress first, roughly get some idea where / which brand u can get the mattress based on the required size. I saw a lot r selling bumble bee brand latex mattress. My lo was using Geetha latex, they have both 60x120, 70x130cm. Btw my lo refused to sleep on her cot since 14m. So I’m now looking for foldable queen size bed for her to sleep on the floor 😆

How’s other items in your shopping list? Almost done? 😄 If u are able to fork out extra budget for steriliser then go for UV type. Really save a lot of time.

What brand of baby wipes you're using?
I bought Aleva Natural big packet, plan to use it first in case baby allergy. Also bought Fiffy and Pureen to see if baby is okay with these brand.

I was torn between buying which top to toe wash for baby - Johnson? Pureen? Anakku? Or Cetaphil Baby Range? I myself have been using Cetaphil for years. Those selling at baby expo are in big bottles so I didn't buy cause want to buy a few brands in small bottle and see which one fits.

Also looking for baby massage oil cause I read it's good for baby's sleep.

Is baby powder still recommended these days? I might buy the pure cornstarch type if needed.

I replaced Pureen wet wipes with K Mom. K brand seems more natural and my baby is ok with it, I also use it to wipe her hand and face. But price is about double of Pureen. Earlier she has some nappy rashes with pureen. Body wash Im using Buds head to toe since new born till now, personally like it.

Luckily I bought Pureen in small quantity only. If allergic, I will use it for cleaning up table only. Will check out K Mom and Buds. Thanks.

I’m using buds too. I try not use wipes as much coz my daughter developed some rashes. Previously used pureen, huggies, drypers, mamypoko, kmom, genki and many more.

Hi, I went to check Buds. Which top to toe are you using? I saw two for infant - one is with clear see through bottle (liquid color like honey) and another in non-see-through white bottle.

Been getting a lot of feedback from friends/relatives about the baby cot end up collecting dust at the corner of their house. Because newborn baby end up sleeping on the same bed with the parents unsure.gif

Congratulations!
Third time round father here, sorry for the long post, here are my 5 cents:

QUOTE(lowlowc @ Sep 12 2018, 02:41 PM)
1. Electronic Breast Pump - Medela/Avent? Is RM500 enough to buy a good one?
- There are different types of breast pumps, and they have different purposes. The good ones are those that can simulate baby's suckling motions/rythems, and these are usually the expensive ones. If you do some read-up, you will find that it is common to have more than 1 breast pump, each serving different purposes. I got a Medela Swing for my firstborn, we now have an Armeda and Milk Genie as well. One thing my wife finds useful (missing in your list) is the milk catcher. What it does is while the mom breastfeeds one side, the other side will also start to leak, she can then use a milk catcher to catch the leaks.

2. Baby Cot (wood) - probably going to buy 2, one for our home and one for the nanny's house. Planning to buy second hand through online.
- No problem buying second hand, if you are not fussy. Else can easily get a new one for less than Rm 500.

3. Baby Seat - going for the 0 - 8 years type, not the baby capsule type since the capsule can only be use for 6 months. (budget: <1.5K?)
- The genre you are reffering to is the Convertible carseat. If you are purely looking for convertible, the Chicco NextFit iX Zip Convertible Car Seat is around that budget. I would have bought one as well for my 3rd kid, but we already have a baby carrier + Combi Convertible. Do consider travel system as well.

4. Playpen - for bringing along when we travel or go back hometown.

5. Baby bath tub - just any brand will do right? We are looking at Ikea's
- We are using Skiphop Moby bath tub, looks solid and comes with baby sling/batj support.

6. Baby bath tub stand - is it better to have this? I wonder if it's stable enough.
- I did not get one as I have other kids and worry if they run around and accidentally topple the bath tub.

7. Baby bath support - is the clip on better or the type we straight away put inside the tub?
- Skiphop Moby has a bath support that comes with it.

8. Baby blanket - done, we bought the zip type

9. Baby mattress
- These days the baby mattresses are so much comfortable compared to a few years ago. We are using Comfy Baby mattress and bedding, super comfortable (bamboo cover, memory foam)

10. Diaper changing mat
- We got it from IKEA

11. Won't be buying diaper changing table cause I already have a spare table with drawers. So I will just change diapers on it and keep the diapers handy inside the drawers.

12. Baby stroller - looking at Combi brand. How much should I budget for this if I am looking for something less than 5kg.
- This is where I would advise you on a Travel system (if you have the budget). Its so convenient to just transfer the carrier/carseat from the car to the stroller. The one I'm using is a Phil & Ted Verve with a double kit. They have an adaptor for Maxi-Cosi and Cybex carriers. The one I would recommend (f you have the budget) is Recaro Zero.1 Elite (i-size) along with the Recaro Stroller package. The Recaro Zero.1 elite is actually a 2-in-one seat, google to find out more.

13. Newborn diapers - probably got covered because my friend had bought too much.  smile.gif

14. Feeding bottle - which one is good Tommy Tipee, Avent or any brand? Glass or non-glass? Or I should wait after baby's birth since I will be latching while on maternity leave.
- You can buy 1 or 2 bottles first just in case, then see whether the baby latches well. Since you decided you will be pumping as well, you can ocassionally try to get your LO to feed from bottle, gives you a bit more time (for others to care for the baby), for you to do your own things. They might still want to latch to sleep though even after bottle feed. As for brands, our first kids used Dr. Brown all the way, no colic issues, second one was breastfed exclusively. 3rd one uses a Phillips Avent Bottle, but with Air-Free Vents (bought from UK), unfortunately not available here in Malaysia yet. Works well, no colic so far.

15. Sterilizer. Some friends say it's a must, some say just use hot water. Which one to believe? What brand to recommend? My budget is RM200+-.
- I have bought 2 sterilizers (Little bean and Philips Avent). Both are good, but after the sterilization, there will still be water vapors/droplets in the bottle. Personally we prefer to just dip it in boiling water, water tends to just evaporate once you take them out from the pot.

16. Milk warmer. Actually very concern about this cos some friends commented it takes too long and their babies are impatient to wait even for seconds.
- If you plan to breastfeed exclusively, then this shouldn;t really be a problem. If you know you are going to leave the house for a while, take it out from the fridge to thaw it first. it will take a bit of time for bottle warmer to warm up the milk, so plan ahead.

17. Baby clothing - shouldn't be an issue cause many friends already offer to pass us all their baby clothes. Can add on new ones when he arrives.

These are all I can think of, but I guess I am still missing some?  rclxub.gif  rclxub.gif

Added:
18. Thermometer
- it can be useful not only now, but when they grow up or when you feel yourself or hubby having a fever. We got an Omron ear thermometer.

19. Pacifier
- Direct latch babies might reject it when they are still young, but will help to self sooth so they don't rely on the nipple to sleep. For brands, unfortunately you will have to test them out yourelf, each baby is different. Buy orthodontically approved ones.

20. Yuyi oil
- Might or might not work, its a bit "spicy" to the skin.

21. Baby carrier
- This works well with mobility, especially if your LO is clingy. We went on a 6 week trip to London and Paris with my first 2 kids, the youngest was just 6 weeks old. Its much more easier to carry them around than to manouver the strollers and try to find a lift.

22. Baby monitor
- Baby rooms in with mom, so we didnt get the monitor.
*
Other things to consider buying (which others might have posted as well):
- Bottle/ nipple brush (we use K-mom)
- Bottle wash liquid
- Diaper Wipes
- Diaper Cream
- Diaper bag
- Swaddle (i'd recommend Love to Dream swaddles, can get from Mothercare. Works well especially at night)
- Head to Toe wash
- hooded towels
- Laundry detergent (baby clothes)
- Wash-cloths, Burp Cloths
- Bedding (pillow,bumpers, covers)
- Nursing wear (mamaway seems to be popular)
- Breast pads, nipple cream
- Ice packs to keep breast milk cold.
- Milk bags to store breast milk.
- Baby Mobile toy to keep them entertained.
- Nighlight

Hi, I am thinking whether to get baby cot or this too!Price starts at RM999 for the basic to RM1600 for bigger and more versatile type (baby expo). A korean tv show shows celebrities using this for their babies. Hubby thought it will be good and later can use it as play area for toddler, or fold and keep away when not in use. But I wonder how a few pieces of normal foam can cost so much.

Also need to consider when taking baby in and out, you will have to squat down.

Most probably I will still get a baby cot from Ikea.

Thanks Castreal, for adding to the list. In fact, I need to buy a bigger fridge soon to keep baby food, breast milk and weekly worth of grocery (I don't think I can go grocery as frequent as previous time).

No problem. As for fridge, we own a 600+ litre fridge, and during confinement, it was packed to max! Like what you mentioned, you will most probably have time only for weekly grocery, unless you stay/work (hubby) next to a Grocer/Market, and weekly shopping means filling up the fridge fast.

As for the IKEA Cot, do be aware that the sides of cots cannot be lowered down, the position is fixed.

May I know 600L fridge is used for how many people's grocery? I am planning to change to 450L type (my old one is less than 300L) but now I wonder if it will be enough..

For the cot, yeah, I'm aware of that. I read on Babycenter that drop side baby cot is banned in certain countries due to safety reason? Do you have any baby cot brand to recommend?

The bumper bed does seems overpriced if you put it that way, a few pieces of foam tongue.gif
We'r trying to justify the purchase by thinking it can be used till baby is at least 5 yrs old. Anyway, still undecided...

We might receive a hand-me-down barely used playpen. Planning to use it like a cot.
Any thoughts on playpen vs cot? The 2 looks the same to me except for the materials (cloth vs wooden).

1. Electronic Breast Pump - Medela/Avent? Is RM500 enough to buy a good one? ————— I have both medela&avent(double pump) avent better. Cost RM 1000 - RM 1500

2. Baby Cot (wood) - probably going to buy 2, one for our home and one for the nanny's house. Planning to buy second hand through online.————— 1 enough, Ikea sunvik + jattertrot mattress. Cost = RM499 + RM 350

12. Baby stroller - looking at Combi brand. How much should I budget for this if I am looking for something less than 5kg. ———- depends, for newborn-4months they’re more comfortable with travel system (car seat). But I saw one compact and light combi that full recline for NB at KLCC I think around RM2000. Cannot give comment because I don’t use this brand.

13. Newborn diapers - probably got covered because my friend had bought too much. smile.gif

14. Feeding bottle - which one is good Tommy Tipee, Avent or any brand? Glass or non-glass? Or I should wait after baby's birth since I will be latching while on maternity leave. —————avent or TT, I use avent. Non glass. 1st if your baby grown up and start throwing things you will understand why non-glass more efficient. And at the age of 4-6months they’ll learn to hold their bottle, the glass one not really practical.

15. Sterilizer. Some friends say it's a must, some say just use hot water. Which one to believe? What brand to recommend? My budget is RM200+-. —————— Definitely need!! Cheap one Avent around RM300.

16. Milk warmer. Actually very concern about this cos some friends commented it takes too long and their babies are impatient to wait even for seconds. —————- no need, my baby fine with formula+evian water directly. Never sick, bloated, gassy, etc etc since newborn till now(11months old)

17. Baby clothing - shouldn't be an issue cause many friends already offer to pass us all their baby clothes. Can add on new ones when he arrives.——————- do buy one or two sets newborn clothes before he arrives, it’s once in a lifetime, he’s special. RM100-RM200 won’t hurt smile.gif

20. Yuyi oil

21. Baby carrier —————- need, ergobaby omni 360.

22. Baby monitor——————- try yi 1080p camera, it’s cheap, but for me it’s more than enough.

23. Lansinoh/lanolin cream

24. Nipple cover

25. Diaper rash cream

26. Muslin blanket

27. Breastfeeding pillow

28. Swaddle ————love to dream

29. Baby bath+wash products i use all sebamed

First time father, dealing with extreme depression, any ideas how to feed baby if she refusing the bottle. She only wants to latch.

Also, tantrums, how to calm her down when she is really crying and doesn't stop. We tried pacifier, but whenever pacifier comes out, she gets frustrated and starts crying top of her lungs again.

First of all, both of you (you+wife) need to get help regarding the postpartum depression, many parents look down upon this problem, but postpartum depression is not a joke. It’s not only affecting you and your wife but also your baby well being. I hope you can find a supportive community around you.

1. any ideas how to feed baby if she refusing the bottle. She only wants to latch.??————————— try another nipple, try another bottle... be patience.. she still learn to adapt with the life outside the womb. Give sometimes and keep trying.

2. Also, tantrums, how to calm her down when she is really crying and doesn't stop. You can calm her down by carrying and rocking her softly, Sometimes baby throwing tantrums because they feel insecure and uncomfortable start to pay more attention for every details. Pacifier, why would you give your baby pacifier if she doesn’t like it??? I know it’s become a trend amongst parents as the shortcut to soothes their babies. But doesn’t mean that it gonna works for yours. I never introduce pacifier to my LO, and he’s perfectly fine.

I know it’s hard as new father to deal with your new baby, wife anger, her mood, and frustration during the postpartum depression because right now your wife life is changed, New responsibilities and her hormones are bouncing like nobody business. Try to get as much as possible help, find a quality time for both of you at least once a week. When both of you transform in to a happy parents, I believe your daughter would be a happy baby too.

There’s no bumper that safe for baby. For me baby cot is one of the most important gear. I have no idea why your friends and relatives let the cot collecting dust and put their baby in a greater risk by co sleeping on the same bed??? I’m surprised many parents are unaware of the SIDS risk.

I am seeing a psychiatrist now and taking meds for depression.
I think the lack of sleep is the main killer. That's why we try to calm the crying baby by using the pacifier. Coz we are all too tired to carry and rock her to sleep. Nevertheless we try our best. Thank you for the reply btw.

On the latching part, we try our best not to force her to drink from the bottle. I just hope she uses back the bottle as latching takes longer time and my wife is about to start work soon and we are so very exhausted

I can feel you... sad.gif Good point you already reaching help. No nanny or somebody else who can help you? Be strong! It’s only temporary, once your your baby bigger it would be easier for both of you. By the way I heard many cases baby would prefer latch over the bottle. Well you know that the skin are softer than rubber. If possible start to stop the latch first. Give breastmilk by the bottle exclusively. She’ll have no option than taking the bottle and get used to it.

Oh dear sad.gif.. We only use avent since NB. The small bottle(125m), but I change the nipple regularly following the age group. I only switched his bottle to 260ml after 6months old. First of all you need to introduce her the feeding schedule, do not wait until she’s angry, overtired, too hungry or over-feed. Second, be extra patient. Your baby can feel your anxiety+stress+desperation. Owh she’s 3 months old already? Have you check if she’s teething?

Oh dear sad.gif.. We only use avent since NB. The small bottle(125m), but I change the nipple regularly following the age group. I only switched his bottle to 260ml after 6months old. First of all you need to introduce her the feeding schedule, do not wait until she’s angry, overtired, too hungry or over-feed. Second, be extra patient. Your baby can feel your anxiety+stress+desperation. Owh she’s 3 months old already? Have you check if she’s teething?
*
Not teething yet, she actually refused the bottle since 2.5 months or so. We are trying to feed her before she actually gets hungry, because if we wait until she is very hungry, she will keep crying and doesn't even want to drink. Thank you for your input.

A question here; what do you bring back for baby to sleep on, if balik kampung?
I look at the plastic playpen, but not very interested with it. They looks wobbly?

Will a bionic bed better suited?

Bionic Bed

or this?

Probably she wants different nipple also. Because the 3months+ stage got a bigger hole. Good luck.. smile.gif

Both will require co-sleep with the parents which actually a big “No” for me. How about chicco zip and go travel crib? I use innovi coccoon and switch to baby Bjorn once he’s bigger.

Hi guys, seriously need some tips, I am new father.

-Baby 3.5 months now, previously didn't swaddle to sleep and no sleep routine.
-initially drinks breastmilk from bottle, baby at 1.5 month refuse to drink from bottle, so breast fed on demand and bottle feed while baby sleeps
-doc say baby allergic to milk protein, ask us to use ha milk formula
-lately been crying heavily especially early evening.
-and refuse to drink even from breast
-sometimes Dun want to sleep, want ppl to carry around. We have to do many things just to get baby sleep, like sarong, cary and rocking etc
-sometimes we can see she has nightmares and start moving and kicking around in sarong, sometimes she will wake from the nightmare and start crying big time

I am at a loss, exhausted, depressed and desperate.

1.What type of ha milk that would be recommended?
2. i notice wherever baby start to get fussy, it's even harder to feed her, can we feed her even before she get hungry? Or do we need to start to fix a time table of feeding, nap and sleep time?
3. How to train baby to recognize it's nap time and bed time at night? Any links that u guys used personally and found effective?
4.is bo ying compound by euyan sang effective?

Not that I am lazy to do research, it's that the info in internet is too vast and I am getting paralysis by analysis, also, I dun gv much time to research

There’s no bumper that safe for baby. For me baby cot is one of the most important gear. I have no idea why your friends and relatives let the cot collecting dust and put their baby in a greater risk by co sleeping on the same bed??? I’m surprised many parents are unaware of the SIDS risk.

Thanks for highlighting that Mrs.A. We just wanna keep our baby safe and find the best way for baby to sleep comfortably.
How about a korean style bumper bed like this?

Have you try apply yuyi oil on the baby's stomach, back and foot?

When my baby after 2 months she was fussy like yours too i tried let her sleep on her tummy/side sleep and problem solved BUT i strongly not encourage to do so because it's really risky.. or the parent need to take turn to watch the baby.. or you can try my colleague's way, she used the baby bouncer (put on the bed) let the baby sleep on it with tummy/side sleep at least it's still breathable.. BUT this is some risk too

Thanks, we did apply yuyi oil but only on stomach and feet. Will try the back if she gets fussy again. We also tried sleeping on side but when she is frustrated, she doesn't like it. Thanks for the input though. For now, we just try to feed her before she gets extremely hungry, else she will be too frustrated to suck. Sometimes she falls asleep when sucking and end up didnt suck enough, so wakes up super hungry and cry. We really tried our best.

1.What type of ha milk that would be recommended?—————- Aptamil HA(import milk, not Available locally, but can buy from overseas)

2. i notice wherever baby start to get fussy, it's even harder to feed her, can we feed her even before she get hungry? Or do we need to start to fix a time table of feeding, nap and sleep time?—————— yes must feed her before she’s hungry, that’s why you should feed+sleep train her from newborn.

3. How to train baby to recognize it's nap time and bed time at night? Any links that u guys used personally and found effective? ————— I sleep train my baby since he was born, It’s very easy, Especially when you start it early. Day time = play with her a lot, nap time max for 2hours, and ontime feeding. Make sure the room is bright and full with natural light. Night time = switch off all the lights, and don’t make too much noice or overstimulate her. If she woke us up because of hungry or nappy got wet, just changed and feed her, no rocking/singing/snuggles/play/talk.

4.is bo ying compound by euyan sang effective?———— No idea, ask your paed.

Not that I am lazy to do research, it's that the info in internet is too vast and I am getting paralysis by analysis, also, I dun gv much time to research ————— I have the full pack of sleep training+pregnancy+toddler training programs, I’ll send you later. Read it + understand it + practice. Every baby can be taught to be a good sleeper. But it’s not happened in a night. Discipline is the key.

Definitely won’t recommend it. I know it’s easy for the parents because the baby would definitely sleep rightaway because it’s too tiring to handle his own weight. But it’s so risky, unfair for your baby.

Hi there, I am not sure anyone already mentioned this:

Buy breast pump within week 2. First two weeks make sure your kid to practice the nursing.
Spectra is the best pump out there. You can get one from Korea in Shopee for less than 700.
As you increase the frequency of pumping will yield more milk later. Immediately after the birth of baby your milk will be more lighter/less thick. So you need to eat good diet (I got the suggestion to eat lots of tiger milk biscuits it is good efficient )to get more thicker milk if you want to stick to mothers milk. After two weeks, based on our experience it is necessary that you help the baby to drink from bottle.

Now choosing the bottle is very important. I want to swear by Dr. Browns bottle. Best out there and costly too. It takes little time to wash than other brands but it is definitely the best.
Reason: Your baby will drink more milk less gas. Just a small physics idea, check YouTube.
Having less air goes into the stomach will have huge growth. Also don’t make baby to cry to get the milk. You need to make sure even during night sleep it drinks. If crying increase meaning baby won’t drink much and not enough growth.

Then having a sterilizater will make life easier. See you just wash bottles each night with Pureen washer and you put it in Little Bean sterilizer with dryer, if you have about 10 bottles would be enough for six moth continuous feeding of milk.
We’re now more of formula NanPro stage 1.

The baby cottoncloth napkins are best in Ikea.

Owww... make sure get the safety gate/bed fence. You’ll never know what’s the baby capable of.. hehehe, my son rolls when he was 2 months old. And we didn’t know about that, we find it out through Baby camera because he sleep in his own room biggrin.gif biggrin.gif. Every night I pulled him back 2-3times/night till he can rolled from the tummy to the back. *drowsy

I really like your reply. The discipline is the key. Parents must be very disciplined to feed and change nappy on time. I see most mothers feed babies only after start crying, which is not correct. Baby signals hungry at least few times before crying. So understanding baby’s signs are very important.

So cute isn’t it?? I have it too but just for playpen and daily nap before he crawls. He sleeps 10-12hours straight at night since 2months old and I only came to his room for diaper changing every 6hours at night. The baby crib must be firm and not bulky, I’m afraid this matterials can pose a risk both baby overheating, and the risk of accidentally obstructing my baby breathing when we’re sleeping/not around. So I never use it for sleeping cot.

Haha yes, seems like you’re expert on this. They always gives sign if they’re hungry. And my son already knew when where what.. anything about his feeding matters since 2weeks old. Ergobaby seems like a popular brand. Maybe you can research on that.
But comments from my friends, the more you carry them, the more they are less prone to stroller and will always prefer to be carried.

Still 3rd trimester not much expenses. Since you are required to follow-up at your local Klinik Kesihatan, you might as well continue doing the check-up there if want to save money on private check-ups. Big chunk of the expenses goes to delivery and buying baby things.

I know having first child will be an roller coaster ride, but either one of the parents should really track the expenses and eliminate all unnecessary purchases

My 2 cents from my experience years back ...

[quote=lowlowc,Sep 12 2018, 02:41 PM]

1. Electronic Breast Pump - Medela/Avent? Is RM500 enough to buy a good one?
*** Dont get the hand pump. Believe me, it can be very tiring after a few pumps. So get a battery operated pump. Will be very useful when the hubby spends the night with the baby while wife can rest peacefully in another room. No need for both to be in the same room to look after the baby at night. Just rotate the shift, one night wife, one night hubby etc.

6. Baby bath tub stand - is it better to have this? I wonder if it's stable enough.

user posted image

*** This is the stand for the bath tub? Looks scary & unsafe to me. Best to just use the bath tub on the floor.

14. Feeding bottle - which one is good Tommy Tipee, Avent or any brand? Glass or non-glass? Or I should wait after baby's birth since I will be latching while on maternity leave.
*** Check the labelling at the bottle bottom if it is plastic. Only used 4 or 5 labelling (safety concerns on type of plastic they use).

15. Sterilizer. Some friends say it's a must, some say just use hot water. Which one to believe? What brand to recommend? My budget is RM200+-.
*** We used only hot water for our 3 kids.

Welcome to the parent's club!

Hi, my LO is 3 weeks old. I understand that night = lights out, but I need some light to help with nappy changing. I hear that red lights are good for maintaining sleep. Do you know where I can find one? Or can I just use a salt lamp?

Thanks.

Hi all, my little one is 6 months old now and I think I should update this thread. These are the things I would recommend to have.

1. Electric Breast Pump - If you have the budget, definitely go for double breast pump! At first I thought the difference between single and double is the time only but no. Double pump actually yield more milk.

2. Baby Cot - We had Ikea's Sundvik. It's ok, but now my baby can roll over, it seems a bit small for him to move around. If have the 1k, 2k budget and would like your baby to sleep longer in cot, go for those bigger type.

3. Baby Seat - We went for Graco and love it!

4. Playpen - for bringing along when we travel or go back hometown. We bought My Dear RM270+, so far so good. Can fold into a cylinder size for traveling. Need to buy matress for it, make sure to buy mattress 'for playpen' not cot.

5. Baby bath tub - Using Ikea's cause it already has anti slip bottom.

6. Baby bath tub stand - Definitely get one if 1. the person going to bath the baby has back or knee problem or 2.The mother delivered via c-section. After c-section quite hard to squat down. Just make sure to test if it's sturdy. I bought an iron shelves from Ikea and used it as stand.

7. Baby bath support - very useful for first time parents handling newborn. Depending on baby's size. If baby is premature/underweight, best to get the pillow type. If baby is normal size, use the netting type.

8. Baby blanket - we bought the baby sleeping bag. Turned out too warm for baby. Just buy a flannel type for colder temp and the muslin type for non-airconditioned room.

9. Baby mattress - addon with mattress waterproof liner.

10. Diaper changing mat - Ikea. The one made from all plastic, easy to clean.

11. Diaper changing table - we didn't buy but use my workdesk as changing table, with the changing mat on top of it. Diapers put into drawer. Very handy.

12. Baby stroller - Got Combi Cozy for rm720 during promo. Now i wish we had buy Combi Handy cause it's higher. Combi is light and easily folded in 2 steps. But it takes up a lot of car boot space. Also not suitable for putting shopping stuff on it because it's very light.

13. Newborn diapers - pls ask around if your friends have any leftover, so you can use and see if your baby is suitable. Don't buy too much. My favorite if Mamypoko Airfit and Merries. But both are expensive. Genki is ok and cheaper, but cutting is small. My baby is wearing Mamypoko S, but need to wear M for Genki.

14. Feeding bottle - which one is good Tommy Tipee, Avent or any brand? Glass or non-glass? Or I should wait after baby's birth since I will be latching while on maternity leave. - We had bought Avent, MAM, Dr Brown, Kuku and found Simba is the only one my baby can take. My baby was premature and cannot stand quick flow teats. Simba is the only one we found to have the smallest size teats - Double S, and it's PPSU material.

15. Sterilizer. Some friends say it's a must, some say just use hot water. Which one to believe? What brand to recommend? My budget is RM200+-. - Definitely buy the one with dryer function. Because steam sterilizer will produce a lot of water droplet, they dry up very slowly.

16. Milk warmer. - If you're feeding breastmilk in bottle, definitely buy one. Dipping them in hot water is slow and sometimes require changing water, waste of time.

17. Baby clothing - just buy a few long sleeves and long pant plus a few short rompers. Get a few newborn, then 6-12mth size

18. Thermometer - get the traditional Omron armpit thermometer. We bought an expensive no-contact infrared thermometer, but it's too sensitive, keep showing our baby having 'fever'.

19. Pacifier - buy one especially if baby likes to use mummy as 'human pacifier'.

20. Yuyi oil - We bought TYT because it's not 'spicy' on skin. Some other mummy recommended Tropika Minyak Telon

21. Baby carrier - I bought a Moby wrap but only manage to use it for short time after my baby learns how to turn his head around. Wouldn't stay still. Buy a non-wrap type carrier if you plan to bring baby anywhere especially travel and shopping. Hispter is not reommended becauce they're not ergonomic.

22. Baby monitor - since baby still sleeps in our room (in his cot) haven't buy one.

23. Plenty of wet wipe. But buy small packs to test and see which one is suitable for baby. Pureen failed, Anakku ok. Favorite is Wetty.

24. Baby bottle brush - buy the one that can be rotated.

25. Baby bottle liquid washer

26. Baby detergent - we used NUK

27. Again for breastfeeding mummies - breastpad, milk storage bottle (if pumping), nursing bra and handfree pumping bra.

28. Baby toiletries - just buy one organic head to toe. We used Buds

29. Nappy cream - have 2 types. One milder version to prevent like Aleva and Buds. Another stronger version (contains zinc oxide) to cure like Sudocream.

30. Baby nail clipper

31. If have budget get a ROckaroo or Mamaroo. Very helpful if your baby like to be in motion.

I have the full pack of sleep training+pregnancy+toddler training programs, I’ll send you later. Read it + understand it + practice. Every baby can be taught to be a good sleeper. But it’s not happened in a night. Discipline is the key.
