Hamilton set for Schumi showdown
Eurosport - Wed, 20 Jun 16:32:00 2007

QUOTE
British sensation Lewis Hamilton is being lined up for a head-to-head shoot-out with Formula One legend Michael Schumacher at the Race of Champions this winter.

The event, which is being held at Wembley Stadium in London for the first time on December 16, pits leading drivers from all walks of motorsport against each other in identical machinery around a two-by-two track.

And ROC founder Fredrik Johnsson revealed that detailed talks had taken place with the 22-year-old rookie, who has won the past two Formula One races on his way to a ten-point lead in the world championship, about competing in the event.

"We have spoken to Lewis and his father Anthony twice [about competing]. Both times after the Monaco Grand Prix," said Johnsson.

"He said that he was really keen to do it, although McLaren want him to concentrate only on Formula One at the moment.

"He's keen though and we hope we can get him. It would be the only time fans will get to see him compete against Michael Schumacher."

Schumacher, 38, who retired last year with seven world titles to his name, confirmed he would head the driver line-up, returning to the event for the first time since 2004, when he was beaten to the overall title by Renault driver Heikki Kovalainen.

"I enjoyed the atmosphere, both with the other drivers and in the stadium where the fans seemed to clearly enjoy themselves," said Schumacher.

Among the other stars confirmed for the event are Formula One drivers David Coulthard and Jenson Button, 1995 world rally champion Colin McRae and world touring car champion Andy Priaulx.

By the looks of it, McLaren has a very slim chance of challenging the title this year. Even worse, McLaren might be disqualified. If that happens, there will be no point watching F1 for the rest of the season coz everyone will know the winners even before the races start. yawn.gif MotoGP, Champ Car, WTCC, WRC and etc etc will get more attention.  rclxms.gif

yes... you are right... hopefully Mclaren not kicking out from championship.... maybe FIA should think any other penalties for Mclaren if they guilty....
