no need to shutdown.

but bear in mind that if you do that, the battery still drains. just that it's at a slower pace. so if you close the lid and didn't touch for many days, don't be suprise it doesn't power up. smile.gif

Yo Bridgestone,

close it, but make sure it doesn't get too hot! they overheat very easily when left closed if you've been using lots of cpu power smile.gif

If you shut your notebook, the heat produced by the hard disk may damage the screen, causing severe repair issues that may not be covered by Apple.

Just make sure when you shut the screen, it goes into sleep mode, you can confirm that by looking at the light next to the IR receiver. It's in sleep mode if it is flashing on and off slowly. Just like snoring =)

ive done that so many times without shutdown/sleep.. and with vista, it seems that it does something like 'homekeeping' activity when i closed the lid. i can see the hdd light blinking right after I closed the lid. but so far, there is no problem. and my lappy also run 24/7.

sleep = power energy saving .

if the machine sleep , it means it wont do anything ...including producing heat ...

my friend done it so many times on his PowerBook G4 ...and still running fine

like Vista case , i think the machine never sleep . the machine will do the job even in sleep mode , including using more memory during the sleep mode .

iYah... simple...

1) If it's for a short period of time, just put it to sleep.

2) If you're travelling or leaving the MB idle for long period of time, then shut it down.

It doesn't take that long to reboot anyways - at max, 30 secs? biggrin.gif

I'm using a PowerBook G4 and I always on sleep mode inregardless how long it is. Sometimes I just run the PowerBook 24/7 (sleep mode at night) for weeks only to restart when there is a security update or software installation (well, I like to try all those freewares)

it's always good to have a notebook cooler and it's very cheap nowadays. My MB runs at 60 degree C, PC at 40 and windows notebook at 56. All this with the cooling mechanism. A little bit better with air cond.

Just install the smCFan Control or one of those programs. My MBP's temperature is usually below 50 Celcius.
