Anyone used M2C Amex for foreign transactions?

Will the 5% weekend Cashback work and is it worth using it for the 5% Cashback?

I'm planning to buy my air ticket from UNIAIR directly.

From what I see, I will be charged with a 2.5% conversion factor by AMEX + 0.5% admin charges by Maybank. So effectively 3% premium over their exchange rate right? So putting it simple, still approximately 2% Cashback? Or I'm still missing something?

Yes, can use for foreign transactions. However, you will need to take note of the transaction time, some follows overseas server. It is best you do it on Saturday's night to assure your transaction will be transacted on weekend.

I purchased from bookdepository and Agoda before, I received 5% cashback.  Better to do it after 5pm Saturday or Sunday.

Thanks for the reminder, will do Saturday night then. It is Taiwan tho so I think I might be safe in that regards.

Any idea how are the charges applied?

How about the exchange rate? Competitive? Or huge premium over market?

2 other issues...
Using M2 Amex Gold/Platinum, you will earn 5TP worth 1%.
Using Maybank Visa/MC, you still need to pay +2% to 2.5%.

So sometime I used Amex instead of Visa, before Oct 2017.

Exactly, that's why I'm asking if it's worth using the AMEX card from the Maybank 2 Cards combo for foreign transaction haha. To be fair, I ONLY use AMEX from the combo. If they don't accept AMEX, I'll use some other card instead of the Visa/MC from the combo.

It's 5% Cashback, but with an additional 2.5% + 0.5% Conversion and Admin Charges. Simple terms, approximately 5% - 3% = 2% Cashback. But now that you mention TP, yeah that should be worth approximately another 1% haha.

My only concern now is that the rate provided isn't competitive, but then again my amount isn't that big so it shouldn't be that significant.

Yes, many of us have done that. Just tell CS to cancel and reason is due to SST.

instead of asking here and wait for answers, why not call CS immediately to find out?

was doing something just now so just hope to get some response while i work on it
just called, the cs was nice. she said she'll apply the sst waiver for me. not sure if the waiver will be successful or not la haiz. think i'll have to make few more calls to cancel the remaining cards that i don't use.
like the hsbc amanah and public bank's quantum visa

yes, mbb cs is quite ok, imo. biggrin.gif

since you're planning to cancel anyway, calling them directly would yield faster and fruitful results too. furthermore, you would have few follow-up questions too, so CS is the best way to tell you.

true that, just trying to see if anyone else was in the same situation like me so i know what to expect
as i mentioned, the waiver seems a little uncertain. i'll have to wait till my next statement to see if it is waived, since i just received this month's statement a few days back
