Recently gave a call to maybank customer service, regarding to upgrade my American Express card to platinum.

Since I cancelled the other card, I asked him about it and he said I can upgrade but then because the original package is 2 cards, hence they will sent me 2 new platinum cards and charged me SST for it.

I told him I was aware that as long as I didn’t swipe my card, I can cancelled one of them and waive the SST.

But he said it can’t be done. The SST will still be charged regardless I got swipe or not.

Basically, I can cancel but SST charged will still be imposed.

You guys got similar experience like this? Thank you

No, but better get confirmation in email or writing.

Charging SST once is no biggie for me. bigger problem would be they don't allow to cancel one of the cards indefinitely.

Good idea. I forgotten to ask him to give me an email confirmation.

But I am also looking forward to hear experiences from other users at there that had underwent the upgrade processes.

Based on the table in the first page , I see weekend is 0 TP right? Since 1 June.

If 1x TP, why TS leave it blank instead of write 1x ?

from 1st till 7th July pls plan your amex spending carefully
Monday to Friday - 5x points
Saturday and Sunday 5% cashback

8th July onwards - all ewallet transaction no rewards or whatsoever, no points no cashback

this is just a friendly reminder

So sad that amex’s benefits have reduced greatly.

Actually I am not sure whether i shall cut off the Amex card or not.

Since I am not a big spender and already have a Public Quantum Mastercard that also have 5% and able to use it on Bigpay as well.

So nowadays, my petrol expenses all go through bigpay etc

Then I notice this card seems to be no longer benefit much other than the 5x TP points.

Maybe I have missed something, can advise me?

Thank you

I assume you already cancelled the accompanying Visa/Master card.

If you cancel the Amex, you'll never be able to reapply and cancel the accompanying Visa/Mastercard again. Anyone who apply after Sept 1 2018 will have to retain both cards.

If your Service Tax is after the budget, just wait and see if govt will abolish the Service Tax for credit cards before you take further action.

Yea already cancelled the accompanying card.

Thank you so much for reminding me of this. I totally forgotten about this.

It is ok to just wait and see, since the cashback already exceeded the rm 25 sst.

A pretty wise post, thank you 👍

I think the best choice is to cancel the Visa only...
Not much benefits...

Retain the Amex is better as the CB for 1 year is definitely more than RM 25 SST

noted.. thank you so much Juudai!

Went to card centre to upgrade my Amex card to platinum and been informed the new master/Visa card no longer allow to be cancel. And even if I chose not to activate the card, I still needed to pay the SST of 25.

correct.

I dunno why Affin bank allows us not to activate the card and not charged us SST, but Maybank can’t do the same.

Thank you so much for the confirmation
