Just got the 500 Mbps upgrade this morning and now I am looking for equipment upgrade..

Current setup:
Ground floor:
- Main router TP Link Archer C2
- Wireless AC speed up to 433 Mbps
- 4 Gigabit LAN ports
- TP-LINK TL-WPA4530 KIT AV500 Powerline ac Wi-Fi Kit  (LAN endpoint 100Mbps connected to main router Archer C2)

First Floor:
- TP-LINK TL-WPA4530 KIT AV500 Powerline ac Wi-Fi Kit  (wireless endpoint)
- Wireless AC speed up to 433 Mbps but capped at 100Mbps because of the LAN port is only 100mbps.

What router did you guys use that can utilize the 500mbps via wifi and the coverage is strong enough to upper floor (3 bars and above)?

I am looking at this currently but looking for opinion too:
TP-LINK Deco M5 AC1300
*
You need a router that can support 3 X 3 MIMO, and devices that can support 3 X 3 too, and the Deco M5 is only 2x2.

I would suggest the TP-Link Archer C7 v4 or v5, which is 3 X 3, or even better, the TP-Link C3150 V2, which is 4 X 4.

Sorry for asking, is 3x3 or 4x4 impact the signal coverage too? means like 4x4 is wider? or same coverage?

I am also interested in Mikrotik hAP AC but worried the coverage not strong enough and end up need to spend for another powerline..
*
No, it is just MIMO, or the ability to transmit and receive multiple radio chains. It has nothing to do with signal coverage. Mikrotik hAP AC is a good device, but it functions best as an AP. I would recommend the TP Link Archer C7 v4 or v5, if you have a normal sized house, and if you have a slightly bigger house, try the TP-Link Archer AC3150 v2. Alternatively, go for the high end Asus routers if you can afford it.

This post is interesting.

How about Netgear Orbi? It is the best mesh wifi system according to some reviews.

How to handle VLAN of hypptv through Mesh Wifi , are they able to manage Vlan trunking?
*
Up to you. VLAN trunking have to be done via a switch.

It's not supporting unifi that is the concern.

Is the ability to transmit both vlan500&600 wirelessly and each of the satelite is able to untag them. Also it needs to untag the internet data and transmit through wifi for all the devices.
*
Not possible using Deco. You have to get Mikrotik or an enterprise router for that.

QUOTE(Drian @ Aug 23 2018, 04:05 PM)
Yes most router also support unifi but they are not able to transmit both vlan wirelessly.
eg:-  Like the Asus AC68U  it will just output vlan600 on port4 and Vlan500 on port 1-3. It's not able to trunk both vlan and transmit wirelessly. Asus also support unifi but can't do that. You have to be very careful what "support unifi" means exactly.
*
Most consumer router do not offer that feature.

Unrelated topics to Unifi turbo.

My unifi package still runs 30mbps (pending for turbo), but my wifi strength is super weak at 1st floor.

Current setup:
Ground floor:
- Main router TP Link Archer C5
- LAN connected to TP-LINK TL-WPA4530 KIT AV500 Powerline ac Wi-Fi Kit

First Floor:
-  (WIFI boardcasted by Ground floor) TP-LINK TL-WPA4530 KIT AV500 Powerline ac Wi-Fi Kit (wireless endpoint)
-  spare router TP link Archer C5
Can i boardcast the signal ? Using this setup (Powerline LAN --> spare router TP Link Archer C5)
*
Yes, you can. But, I will just say that powerline is very fickle, as the data travel through the electrical lines, and any disturbance to the line will severely impact your speed. The best choice is a wired AP, and failing that, a decent router that have good wireless coverage.

Hi All sifu sifu, just get the notification last 2 days ago saying my Unifi has been turbo-ed to 500mbps. Somehow tested with Unifi speed test, my PC only get 100mbps download speed(using LAN cable though TP-LINK AV1200 Gigabit Passthrough Powerline Starter Kit TL-PA8010PKIT) and my phone only get 50mbps download speed.
Btw, i'm using stock Unifi router which is TP link archer c1200. Had called Unifi call centre, they help to reset their end and i restart modem & router few times also with the same speed.
Is it same thing like the above members said which was capped at 100mbps??
*
Obviously not. Did you try connecting directly to your router?

No woh, i can't as my router at my living hall and PC located at other room. Unless i got long enough LAN cable to test it. Meaning that this router can handle 500mbps without issue then?
Yup, the tplink archer c1200. You also using the same router?
*
Okay. Theoretically it can handle 500Mbps without issue via wired connection, and it really depends on wireless connection, both on your device and how far away from the router it is plus other interfering issues. Did you check your computer can support gigabit speed? See here: https://www.cnet.com/how-to/how-to-find-out...-gigabit-speed/

QUOTE(specky94 @ Aug 24 2018, 02:04 PM)
Nahh. I think you should get actual speed using the lan cable. I use that tabung one. Dlink. Uhhh 850-L i think 🤔
*
That is crap, in terms of wireless speed.

Arhh,, yeah..i think my PC cap it at 100mbps because of the network card. I miss out that one, really stupid me.  biggrin.gif  biggrin.gif  Currently i can't check it as at office.
Btw i havent test unifi 5g wifi connection yet. The phone was tested with normal wifi connection only. Thanks a lot bross
*
No worries, it might be able to support gigabit, but you have to manually configure it. Go back tonight and test it. Good luck.

Yeh, I have checked with direct connection from router to pc. Can get about 500mbps download speed liao.
But plugged in with the TP-LINK AV1200 power adapter it goes down to about 150mbps with swap some cat5e cable.
hmm.gif the power adapter have limitation and block some download speeds?
Yup, next thing i also thinking wanna buy some cat6 cable to plug with the power adapter see whether got improve o not.
*
Bro, nothing to do with cable quality. Powerline is extremely unstable, as data is being carried over the electrical lines, and any interference to the line, will lower the speed significantly, as you can see in your network. You have to be plugged directly to the router.

Just found out that Asus Lyra got a dedicated 5ghz as backhaul..better than Deco M5.. i feel getting this over Mikrotik hAP AC because range still a concern to me..

Asus Lyra vs Lyra Trio got what difference actually??
*
No difference. Asus Lyra is one unit, and Lyra Trio comes with three unit, which support mesh wifi setup.

My bad. I was looking at something else.

Shit man, I give up already... seemed like the cost to upgrade the routers/cards are quite expensive.. will just use as it is for now..

Current setup:
Ground floor:
- Main router TP Link Archer C2
- Wireless AC speed up to 433 Mbps
- 4 Gigabit LAN ports
- TP-LINK TL-WPA4530 KIT AV500 Powerline ac Wi-Fi Kit (LAN endpoint 100Mbps connected to main router Archer C2)

First Floor:
- TP-LINK TL-WPA4530 KIT AV500 Powerline ac Wi-Fi Kit (wireless endpoint)
- Wireless AC speed up to 433 Mbps but capped at 100Mbps because of the LAN port is only 100mbps.

My laptop upstair is running on Intel wireless only with max of 433mbps.. pulling a LAN cable will be damn ugly so it is a no.. buying a good Asus Lyra + good USB wifi that is capable of 500mbps and above will be more than 1000.. it is not worth just for a laptop to use.. haha..
*
Sounds good, but I would suggest the main route being something more capable than the C2, maybe the Archer C7 v4 or v5.

Feeling wanna upgrade but just worried if pay already and it is still not as good as expected..

Is there any shop that i can loan/rent some wifi routers for testing purpose like:
- Mikrotik hAP AC
- Asus Lyra
*
Unfortunately not. The Archer C7 v4 or v5 will be stable, unless you want something better, like the Asus RT-AC86U, or cheaper option would be the TP-Link C3150 v2.

Boss, whats this v4 v5 about? i search on  online shopping site all selling Archer C7... no mention v4 v5 etc.

I see the price diff bet C7 and C9 is about RM100, and C7 & Asus RT-AC58U AC1300 is RM60; is the price diff can justify the added stability and speed boost? I am waiting my turbo 300 from unifi, wondering which router to get.
*
Just call me bro will do lol. Anyway, TP-Link likes to release new versions of their routers, and then abandoning the previous version, and not supporting them anymore, unless you are in the US. Some of the online shops might have v2, some might have v4, and some might have v5. It depends on where you get it from. You have to ask the online shop what version is that, or go buy it in a physical shop, and see the version on the box. V5 and v4 is the newest one, and have hardware and firmware upgrade over the v2. If you want to get the C7, get it from OOKAS. They are reliable and got the latest version usually.

Yes, the price diff can justify the added stability and speed boost. You could get the C9 if you want, and that is what I recommend. But, make sure you get it from OOKAS, or if you want to get it elsewhere, make sure it is v5, which is the newest version, and have the newest firmware and better hardware. I suggest you get it from OOKAS. Be aware that the v5 is using EU firmware, so you will get limited 5GHz channels.
