I just bought my Canon 350D + kitlens last few month. After shooting phots at Hong Kong during my holiday, i discovered the kit lens can't statisfied me and i plan to buy another lens to shoot photos in several situation like landscape, building, potrait & night scene.

I was considering Sigma & Tamron. Any strong reccomand from SIFU-SIFU out there ?

Thank you.

i think he meant it doesn't meet some of his requirements when he uses it for his shots. like maybe lack zoom, or not wide enough.

anyway sigma or tamron, doesn't matter as long as it produces the results you want.

i'm using tamron. i have a sigma on it's way. smile.gif the rest of my lens are canon.

IMHO, every lens performs differently.

Even in the same focal length range, either brand may perform better over the other.

So, you need to judge a lens by it's own performance and not just looking at it in a general brand vs brand.

Thread starter, you need to tell everyone what other features you're looking for in your new lens.

agreed
i chose sigma over tamron for lense A type (wide angle)
then tamron over sigma over lense B type (standard zoom)
n nikkor for type C (telezoom - need VR ma)

what range of lense do you have in mind?

It would help if u were comparing which lens to which lens.. juz comparing tamron vs sigma.. this is way to wide in subjective..

are u comparing tamron 18-200 vs sigma 17-70? there is too many lens.. and not all from sigma or tamron are good..

from your requirement i dun see what you need to get this THREE lenses blink.gif

- Sigma 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3
- Tamron AF 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3
- Tamron AF 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3

I would go for Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4.5 since it will perform better in lowlight compare the rest..f2.8 mah

Also FYI, if a zoom lens the focal length range is too wide the poorer the lens will person..

Meaning let say
Tamron AF 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 vs Tamron AF 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3

18-250mm would be weaker then 18-200mm....

One more lastnight, go to some review website READ all the review...of the lenses you looking for..it would give you a good answer....

Good luck to you my friend.

all the lenses you mentioned wont satisfy you more than your kitlens
infact, maybe worse than ur kitlense,

unless u have that zoom fetish.
all those situations u mentioned can be achieved better using ur kitlense too
if u wan the extra focal length, just get a zoom tele,

or - u want a better walkaround lense with longer tele to replace ur kitlense,
if not. its just waste of $$ to buy any of those u listed
