Greetings.
Today I just consult with a beauty center doctor for my acne treatment.
I got some accutane and antibiotics from the doctor.
He told me that facial extraction (RM80 per week) and facial peeling (RM280 per month) is a MUST.

Is it true that acne wont clear completely without facial extraction and peeling (because I never seen any info that says facial extraction and peeling is a MUST for acne treatment, and it is soooo expensive ohmy.gif ), or he just want to earn more money?

As another male who's been fighting with acne and pimples for roughly 2 years 8 mth, Im happy to share my experience with you. So AMA

My personal experience of these beauty saloon or center whatever its called is bad. Only went twice for the facial. Not treatment tho.

First time looks abit improvement, second time down to helll even worse. So yea

And the package you were assigned, RM700 a month even without products yet. That means you gonna spend at least RM1k per month... I dont really recommend it except u can afford

Wait, accutane and antibiotics at the same time? That doesn't sound right.

My memory might be fooling me (this was 9 years ago) but what my dermatologist tried with me was:
1) antibiotics - which didnt have an effect
2) stronger antibitiocs - which worked well for a few months but then stopped working
3) accutane - this was a final resort since nothing else worked.

It was always only one or the other, not multiple different medications at once.

Accutane has some strong side effects which is why he was reluctant to put me on them straightaway even though I had a terrible case of facial and back acne. I really suffered for a few months but then things improved.

I didn't have to have any other treatments while I was on accutane. However towards the end of the treatment he did suggest some laser treatment if I wanted to get rid of scars, but that was optional.

you may try one doc laser ... its does help ... it control the oil glands and remove acne marks but pricey ... RM7288 ( 8 times 4 steps treatment, 3 SRT - same as peeling ) free 2 times 4 steps treatment.

try avoid taking accutane & antibiotics ... it has strong side effects , dry lips , drowsy ...but thats the medicine that ever skin doctor will prescribe. after u stop taking , the problem will come back or even worse.

best solution is avoid taking oily / spicy food so much , sleep early & no overnite & use the right facial products .

I think the best advice I can give you is to check with a dermatologist instead of going with these beauty centres which sound dodgy.

It's a bit redundant... Accutane by itself should be able to clear up your acne if you stick to the regiment strictly.

I don't think facial peeling is the answer. Your skin is already red and sensitive from the acne outbreak, it's not recommended to use any more harsh product on it. It's usually recommended for "acne scar" not "during" having the acne.

Just take the accutane and keep a good diet first. Don't pick the acne.

Come on, at least try to understand what on earth those do to you & how can they help for acne.

1. Accutane - this is an isotretinoin which shrinks your skin’s oil glands to solve the oily problem. If you’re not careful, your liver might give way first before your acne gets away. Also, think for yourself what happens next when your oil glands no longer functioning.

2. Antibiotics - acne is caused by 2 strains of bacteria i.e. propionibacterium acnes & propionibacterium granulosum. So antibacterial activity that can clear off those 2 is sufficient already. As to why doctors prefers antibiotics that clears EVERTHING inside you, that I’m not sure.

3. Extraction - clogged pores due to lousy skincare & lousy cleanser can’t clear off those properly. Hence that’s why facial extraction is suggested just to clear off clogged pores & any other dirt that you didn’t properly clean off during the week. Basically doctor help you wash your face once a week for RM80.

4. Peeling - this is probably just exfoliating to remove old & dead skin to encourage new skin to grow & heal the acne scars.

Basically the doctor is just helping you to do what you should be doing daily by yourself. Hence that’s why it cost a bomb; their time, their service & their products.

My cleanser does #3 well while my serum does #1 & #2 well. So around RM50 a month only.

If clogged, cleanser can’t do anything. Just extract first few times.

I can help. I have a device that can help to identify your skin problems, a report will be generated and solutions will be suggested as well. I can do a test for you if you want.
