Which is the most appropriate to register unifi? Reseller or straight TM Point?
*
I would say it’s almost the same,
but there’s always a risk that some resellers are not
that active in pushing through your request.

Thus I vote for TM Point. Can get ur order number directly and easier to follow-up.

I’m more interested to know what will be the pricing for upcoming 300Mbps/500Mbps instead.

But I guess no news until all the Turbo hooha has been solved.

This package will not get turbo and no STB (told by friend in TM). So this package is basically "turboed" 10Mbps. 139 for 30Mbps (will be 300 later) is much better deal me think.
*
Don’t bother explaining to people blinded with rage.

:haha:

The less people with TM, the more exclusive support we shall be getting.

Inb4 ‘exclusive’ lah sangat.

I looked at the first page and noticed ASUS USB-AC68 Dual-Band Wi-Fi Adapter was not listed.

Shouldn't it be able to achieve the 800Mbps speed wirelessly just like the Tp-link Archer T9UH?

I got the 800Mbps speed now btw :feelsgoodman:
*
Sure looks like it’s capable enough..

QUOTE
The ASUS USB-AC68 is a dual-band USB Wi-Fi adapter that instantly upgrades your desktop or laptop to the novelist 802.11ac technology with Wi-Fi speeds up to 1300 Mbps (5GHz) and 600 Mbps (2.4GHz). Its 3x4 MIMO antenna design with ASUS AiRadar Beamforming optimize the Wi-Fi reception, and the 3-position antennas and the cradle make it convenient to adjust for the best performance according to your usage- on desktop, on laptop, or on the go! The USB 3.0 interface eliminates the potential bottleneck for your Wi-Fi and ensures the best performance you can get.

But there is also limited bandwidth for USB though..

lol who's the blinded one?
New Unifi Lite subscribes comes with STD20 + Dect Phone at RM129!!!
While early birds like us no STD20, no DECT phone...

SAD...
*
yeah, and actual early birds paid RM199 for 5Mbps years back.
early birds paid RM149 for 10Mbps Unifi Lite.
early birds paid RM160 for 8Mbps Streamyx.

life's like that, nothing's fair.

but there's always a chance in the future.
maybe not now, but though TM's unfair pricing is known,
there's always promo/bonanza/etc. throughout the year.

not sure how it's going to be next year though,
but with Maxis coming into the game and probably TIME or other players
lurking around the corner, suck it up and wait for the tide to calm down a bit.

p/s : being blind as i said in the previous post is for those who
compared 100Mbps Post-Turbo@ RM129 vs. 100Mbps @ RM169~RM329 Pre-Turbo.

learn to read between the lines when you come across such promotional ads coming from resellers.

Thanks but pardon me, could you elaborate a bit more on the limited bandwidth?

I'm also thinking on going with the Powerline Adapter route + Wired Cable but dunno if it's a good idea if I can get consistent 800Mpbs from a wireless adapter hmm.
*
oops, sorry my bad - USB 3.0 theoretically can go up to 5Gbps.

user posted image

in a simple way, it's like this:

1. USB (or any kind of connection) have certain limitations in terms of bandwidth, i.e. max. speed that the data transmission can pass through.

2. If you're trying to get Wifi speeds of up to 800Mbps but the USB (in this case not 3.0, it's USB 2.0) having 480Mbps will then limit your Wifi connection to the maximum of 480Mbps (as per its own transfer speed limitation).

and I apologize, USB 3.0 bandwidth/speed can go up to 5Gbps thus passing through 800Mbps won't have a problem.

Disclaimer: I hope that I am reading the right reference off the net on 5Gbps USB 3.0 bandwidth.

Price competition aside, I really hate that long term contract. Back in streamyx day, it was 1 year contract. Why do all fiber offerings have minimum 2 years contract?  ranting.gif
*
The contract side, yes - I also hate it.

If I'm not mistaken, TIME gives a much more fairer practice,
i.e. an option of either:

a) Having a contract of 2yrs with standard monthly payment

or

b) Having a 1yr contract but with a one-off registration payment of RM300 (?)

But with almost all telcos in Malaysia practicing the contract approach,
I'm not sure if any 1 telco would dare to drop contract-based plans.. or is there already one?

Bro, now many Telco also begun contract-free unless you taking bundles with phone.

In Singapore, there is many 6-months or 12-months contracts only.
*
keyword.

as I already mentioned - unfortunately we live in Malaysia, the land of impossibilities.

unless this is tackled next by Gobind, there's nothing much we can do.

Rome is not built in one night, and this is why at least rejoice on the brighter side :

1. Speed is going up (albeit the uncertainty of when).

2. Price is (supposedly) coming down.

maybe next is the contract?

Some of my wishes would be:

a) Unbundled HyppTV
b) Provide different pricing for TM Router/own router (or maybe even GPON.. ha!)
c) Easier speed upgrade/downgrade option

But then again.. it's just wishful thinking and just wait and pray that the damned Turbo upgrade
eventually will come and it's stable. laugh.gif

So a few dozen pages ago mentioned unifi coming to my area, Port Dickson as early as this month or October. confirmed its FTTH which is good.
the unifi rep quoted rm139 for 30Mbps which comes with the free channels. also quoted rm199 for 50Mbps that comes with ultimate pack. could prolly cancel astro for this.

Beginning to wonder if rm199 for those is worth it... zero idea when turbo coming.
*
with TM, always start small, RM129 or RM139.

upgrade in the future if you want.

if you start big immediately, you'll realize that:

1. so many others with same speed but cheaper monthly payment.

2. want to downgrade in the future also susah like hell.

Yes, new plan need renewal even your contract-ended.
and you get TURBO-AHEAD at 100Mbps, but NOT 800Mbps.

I am currently paying 179 for 50 Mbps and my house is using VDSL2, so the upgrade to 500Mbps will be pointless. I'll be downgrading to 100 Mbps @ RM129 next week.
urm.. wilson1stop don't you think you're missing something here?
(or is it me who's just assuming that VDSL2/SUBB may not even get any upgrade due to connection limitation?)

can VDSL2/SUBB get the 100Mbps @ RM129? I'm not so sure..

I'd propose LovelyPotato to go and get confirmation first via Live Chat @ Unifi before going to TM Point..
or even Twitter, just so that you save some hassle.

Hi.

I'm a long time UniFi user. Just wondering if anyone has clarification.
My history is 30mbps signup, upgraded to 50 (free), now turbo-ed (free).

Should I be getting 300mbps or 500mbps?

Current speedtest shows 350mbps with ookla. Using dual-band DIR850L, cat5e lan / cat 6 lan cables.

Thanks!!
*
1. Login to your Unifi Care Page.
What does it state there? 500Mbps? or 300Mbps?
(it should show 500Mbps since your last speed before turbo is 50Mbps anyway)

2. Use TM Speedtest.
http://speedtest.tm.com.my/tmspeedtest.html

Still having problems? Try reading 1st post.

If your speedtest is still not up to 500Mbps,
try reading the green text portion of 1st post.

https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...post&p=89949937

Other hints:

1. Your cable might not be good enough.
- try troubleshooting via checking your network link (i.e. does Windows show your connectivity 1Gbps?)
- avoid long cable lengths.

2. Router might be lemon unit.
- try source for a different router and use that to benchmark.

3. Port need reset.
- If all your personal troubleshooting fails, it's time to call 100 or Live Chat.

they should have turbo everyone first regardless the consumer's infra support or not.
*
probably it's TM's own infra/system which couldn't support mass upgrade.
once upgrade everyone, what happens is:

1. 80% of their equipments got congested (whatever that means) laugh.gif

2. 99% of the customers would jam their Live Chat/100/TM Point complaining that speed not meeting expectation.

3. Half of the customers from (2) tested their speedtest via wifi. and then complain. bangwall.gif
