no, if file is SDR, it will deliver SDR.
if file is HDR and TV or AVR is not, the picture is washed out.

if u set to 2160p, u get upscaling for anything originally below that.
if u set to 1080p, that's the highest it will be, no upscaling for original 1080p.
also, u can press menu button on remote and explore the various fine tuning options incl imprex engine on/off.
the rest will be up to the TV.

Q: Local / LAN playback? As it stands HiMedia S500 has standard Android TV firmware installed with no ability to play local/LAN media with HiSilicon hardware support. However, it uses the same hardware as other HiMedia boxes so all it needs is the installation of the the Media Center and HiMedia/HiSilicon video player apps. We have asked HiMedia to provide these apps for sideload so local/LAN playback equivalent to previous HiMedia boxes can be restored. No guarantees.

if the himedia media player app can be sideloaded to do like what Q10/Q5pro does, incl HD audio, then it is OK, good added value.
if not, it will be just like another ATV box.
2+8gb is limiting... good for regular apps only.
rj45 100mbps, usb2.0, hdmi 2.0b... overall, rather low specs.
for 70 pounds sterling or rm350... not too bad but really paying for the chipset and google certification.

this vietnam seller jumped the gun to say it does all the HD audio... while futeko says "no guarantee".
this S500 is not going to be a super box for local playback.
at best, it can just do what Q10pro/q5pro does.
perhaps the next 8k model might be able to.
S500 seems to be another box in the race to get google certification, use ATV os.

yes can. now i m using ziddoo x9s (almost same as himedia box) streaming from NAS Synology DS213j. Been using it for almost a year.

oops sorry, not playing BDMV folder. It can play but i need to choose specific file to be play. BD Menu not supported.

this may be due to the order u switch on and off the equipment, some handshake issue.

try switching q10pro on LAST and switching off FIRST.
