for movies and songs better get 250GB and above... for temp backups or juz file transfer... then use 2nd hand 40GB or 30GB from damage laptop + OEM casings enough... biggrin.gif
*
May I know where did you saw 250GB 2.5" HDD in MALAYSIA ?

So far from a quick search from internet, the 250GB 2.5" HDD is just come out recently:
Western Digital's 250GB perpendicular Scorpio heads for laptops
Link2
Fujitsu

QUOTE(NicJolin @ May 27 2007, 12:05 PM)
Got my 80gb + vantec casing for -> 160 + 45  = 205 ^^
*
Your Vantec is which model? And HDD model?

QUOTE(akachester @ May 27 2007, 01:02 PM)
I dont think there is 250gb 2.5" HDD right?

Anyway, i have this plan in the future. Going to get myself a 120gb Seagate 2.5" HDD coupled together with the Xcraft Sata Enclosure.

Why Seagate?Just because the price of a 100gb and 120gb only differs a little bit and Seagate is offering 5 years warranty for maybe around RM10-20 more expensive in price.

About the enclosure, i just wanted to get a better enclosure. Something trustworthy. Dont feel wana get those chaplang brand..
*
Same with me, from CM website, Xcraft Sata Enclosure come with the PCI eSATA connector, good for those board that don't have eSATA build in. But i wonder where can we get ...

Compare with those OEM/unbranded casing, kind of afraid that it will spoilt the 2.5" HDD, spent RM15, end up spoilt the 200+ buck HDD ... not worth ...

By the way, the 5 year warranty of 2.5" HDD is for all seagate model, rite? I having a doubt as some of the shop that I ask, they just provide 1 year warranty, plus only can be claim from the shop, make me wonder the stock illegal source. Any one had met this problem also?

QUOTE(ronaldjoe @ May 27 2007, 11:04 PM)
Seagate is my choice as well.

Seagate Momentus 5400 data sheet
*
May i know reason that you chose Seagate? Warranty period? Stable? Silent?

QUOTE(DiCalto @ May 27 2007, 11:15 PM)
seagate and western digital will be great choice la... im currently using western digital 80gb pata n ROCK HD1-Series-RB external 2.5casing full aluminum and made in taiwan...not bad la wei... smile.gif and my laptop currently using fujitsu sata2 100gb... oso okie la... no problem at all... xD
*
For your WD 2.5" HDD, may i know how many year warranty stated by the shop you bought>? is it 3 year?

Is there any serial number on the 2.5" HDD that we can check online regard on the warranty status?

The HDD warm while spinning?

Noisy?

QUOTE(ajay67 @ May 28 2007, 10:12 AM)
how about external case with own power sourse & memory card slots? so i can back up my photos from the cam
*
External case with memory card slot? I didn't see any of the model yet in Malaysia market, MAYBE got, but the chance might small to find.

QUOTE(Hybrified @ May 28 2007, 11:36 AM)
Nice thread here rclxm9.gif

Im interested to get external HDD as well ....

Should i get 2.5 notebook hdd + enclosure ? Or should i just buy the ready stock external HDD ?

some i see the price about rm400~rm500 blink.gif
*
Depend on your budget, if you got unlimited budget, then better go for those ready make external HDD by those branded manufacturer, more reliable.

but for self configure, got several benefit, which is you can chose the casing that you like, and the capacity that suit you. And it is cheaper compare with those ready stock.

QUOTE(katunX @ May 28 2007, 11:40 AM)
I'm currently got one 40GB Fujitsu(SATA) 2.5" HDD for quite sometimes, and really looking for XCraft Sata Enclosure. Mind sharing where to get those stuff?
Just use my hdd for transfering big size video or files from other pc to mine... nod.gif
*
I wonder Lowyat there got any shop selling this model XCraft Sata Enclosure ?

QUOTE(pcbase @ May 28 2007, 11:56 AM)
wd 60gb 8mb ide + 2.5" tomata casing = rm 178 pcfair price last month.
warantty : hd 5 years, casing 3 month
wd have 2 model 2mb & 8mb. make sure get corect model. Mine is WD600VE. WD give 3 years warranty.

Main used : cybercafe. dont have screamyx @ home.
- no benchmark no picture. i can say take about 10 second (more or less) copy 700mb linux iso.
- run directly opera, firefox portable, eudora, forte agent, greatnews rss reader, filezilla, flashget all in the same time from portable hard disk.

problem : some pc have detect problem. detect but with warning or not detect al all.
*
May i know for your HDD, is there any serial number on the HDD? and possible to check the warranty status online?

How do we check for 2MB or 8MB cache?

Is it warm while spinning?

Noisy?

QUOTE(Nyckl3z @ May 28 2007, 06:02 PM)
eh, i have one mroe question,
if for external HDD,
can they make a mix usage on Notebook and Desktop?
*
Can. but if you mean that can we plug the notebook HDD direct to our motherboard, then only limited to SATA HDD can, as the connector of notebook IDE HDD is totally not same with the one (PATA) that we used in our motherboard.

So if you plan to dual use, plug to motherboard + portable usage, then better suggest you to get SATA notebook HDD.

I am prefer HITACHI Travelstar 7K200 or E7K200
Since HITACHI is the HDD supplier for IBM Thinkpad, durability approach and minimise data loss due to damage. (However the warranty not as long as Seageta but I think data more important than warranty whistling.gif )

been using 80 gb hitachi 2.5" and a vantec nexstar red. Used it for nearly 10 months and no problems. I read somewhere on a harddisk review site that hitachi 2.5" are the fastest 2.5", even nearing 7200 rpm-like speeds. That and the fact that its cheaper than seagate is why i bought it.

For the vantec nexstar, eventhough its made of aluminium and shiny, it doesnt scratch easily. In fact theres no visible scratches on mine. It even comes with a handy bag with zipper that covers the casing plus cables completely.

@Sitting Duck

If only i had a camera....according to the new pczone(from pczone website) pdf pricelist the nexstar 2.5" usb is rm70. About the link in vixxiee's posts, the seller's price is quite low but the enclosure looks a bit strange - the edges(where the connectors are) looks like black plastic while AFAIK it is supposed to be shiny silvery metallic aluminium. Do ask the seller abt it 1st. U can find the pictures @ vantec usa website or in bulk orders, look for bombman thread.
