Sifar is from the Arabic word "sfar" which means zero. Many "new" Malay words come from Arabic ever since some people started the Arabization of Malay words since Anglicized or "Indonizisation" of Malay words are no longer popular. 😋

Though for usage, sifar doesn't seems to be used in the same structure as other number words. For example, 0% usually spoken as kosong peratus, not sifar peratus.

GST kosong can also means GST empty, which later mudah mengeliru BN MPs thought GST semua disonglapkan oleh PH govt. Sifar is zero, won't confuse anyone.

is a mathematics grammar rules .. kosong = sifar same.. but you only answer it sifar not answer it kosong.
