Mancini: "Inter, Roma both good teams" APPIANO GENTILE - Ahead of Friday's training session and Saturday's Serie A clash with Roma, Roberto Mancini briefed the press in his pre-match news conference. Here's part one: Mancini: has the match against Roma come at the right time for Inter? "We played a good match against Sampdoria the other evening. Physically we did fairly well for the whole ninety minutes. I think it will be a different kind of game tomorrow." Do Roma and Inter represent the best that Italian football has to offer, all aspects considered? "Italian football offers several very strong teams, not just Roma and Inter. There are others, like Milan, Juventus, Fiorentina and Palermo." What about the team's condition? Will Chivu be called up? "When you play matches so close together it's impossible to choose your team before the morning on matchday. You can only recuperate your energy in the two days between one game and another. For example, Ibra came off against Sampdoria due to tiredness, but this is normal when you're playing every three days. It's important to see how certain players recover on matchday. As for Chivu, I don't think we'll risk playing him tomorrow because we need him in the Champions League on Tuesday." Ibra has said you will go to Rome to win. Agreed? "A great team can't go on the pitch thinking about getting any other result than a victory. We will go to Rome to win, but with respect for our opponents who are a great team who play very well. We can do well." In recent months a lot has been said about the fact that Roma play better than Inter. What do you think? "Roma play well but every match is different. Everyone can have an off-day, but they certainly play well." Roma might be playing well, but Inter finished 21 points ahead of them in the championship... "As an observer from the outside I have always said I like watching Roma play because they have technical and fast players. It's like watching Barcelona play - you like watching them because they have players capable of moving the ball around. But I also like watching Inter play. Sometimes two teams might have different styles of play and different players, but still play well in their own way." Inter played very well during your first season as coach and this was recognised by everyone. Why have they stopped talking about your team's nice play? "My first Inter team played well because we had players who are similar to Roma's, like Emre and van der Meyde for example. These players were fast and less physical compared to the ones we have now. I can remember some very nice matches. We attacked with more velocity with these players, who when in form gave the team depth because they were fast. I enjoyed it. The team changed a bit after. It became a lot more solid and it plays in a different way now." How much does it irritate you when you hear it said that Inter fail to perform in the decisive matches, like the Champions League knockout rounds? "There are only two teams who reach the Champions League final. All the others miss out. We have played three Tim Cup and Super Cup finals and have only lost twice. As I just said, apart from Milan and Liverpool all the others missed out in the Champions League. It's normal for one team to lose when it's direct elimination, but this is one of the rules of football." Are Inter and Roma two teams built around Ibrahimovic and Totti? "The teams are built in order to play well and help the best players - usually the scorers - to do their best. It's normal to try to exploit the talents of your world-class strikers." Is Ibrahimovic in slightly better form than Totti at the moment? "They are two great players with different characteristics. Ibra is a bit younger and can improve a lot. Totti has been playing at his high level for many years. He had a different role before and now he's a centre-forward. They are both two great players." After a great season in midfield, Javier Zanetti was decisive on the wing against Sampdoria. "Javier is an extraordinary player in everything. He can play and make mistakes just like every human being, but he gives his all every time, even when he's not in top form. He was extraordinary against Sampdoria. It wasn't easy for him to go back to playing as full-back, but he played in that position against Fenerbahçe. I prefer having him in the middle of the pitch, but he can play well at full-back because he has been used in that role for years." http://www.inter.it/aas/news/reader?N=27525&L=en |

Roma 1 - 4 Inter
really devastating result. what a let down. i actually miss the game so i cant comment much on how the team played. but from what i read, Giuly made a terrible n foolish mistake to use his HAND to clear a ball from the line. WTF ? this is surely a tough time for Romanista... n we got MU up next. Spalletti need to find some way to pump up the boys. anyway, Forza Roma. |

QUOTE(Chrisky @ Sep 30 2007, 12:21 PM) Roma 1 - 4 Inter I dont think Manu capable of thrashing Roma like last time. Even in the EPL they only manage to get 1-0 win for the most of their game this season. I believe Roma will do well this time, a draw even a win is possible with Manu current form. I'm rooting for Roma on this one.really devastating result. what a let down. i actually miss the game so i cant comment much on how the team played. but from what i read, Giuly made a terrible n foolish mistake to use his HAND to clear a ball from the line. What the hell was wrong with Roma? I was (atleast) expecting a draw would be nice, but.
Ok, it's another prove that can't always count on other big Serie-A teams to gun down Inter, let's just hope that our beloved team will do their job starting tomorrow. Forza AC Milan! |

Man Utd's Ronaldo: Roma players begged for mercy
Manchester United wing ace Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed last season that at 6-0 down one Roma player had pleaded with him to show mercy. "I often get some comments from opposition players that bring a smile to my face," Ronaldo, who scored twice in the 7-1 romp, told The Times. "It happened during the last match against Roma when we were already winning 6-0. 'Don't do any more dribbles, you are already winning by six,' said one of them, almost begging." http://www.tribalfootball.com/article.php?id=59166 Taunting perhaps? |

Greater Manchester Police have been put on high alert for the game at Old Trafford after crowd trouble at both legs of last season's quarter-final. But in an extraordinary move, Totti has sent a personal video message to Carly Lyes, 23, who was allegedly hit on the head by Italian police when violence flared in Rome in March. Totti, accompanied on the video by Damiano Tommasi, a teammate, said: "We would like to apologise for the treatment you received in Rome last season and hope it has not damaged the opinion that you and your fellow supporters have of Rome. We would like to invite you to the Olympic Stadium for the game later this year and treat you as our guest." taken from here |

roma lose by one goal only..
Man United 1-0 Roma: Rooney off the mark Wayne Rooney belted home his first goal of a frustrating season to drive Manchester United into pole position in their bid to reach the Champions League knock-out phase. There may have been no repeat of the epic magnificent seven the last time they met Roma but United's latest victory over the Italians will be cherished almost as much. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « |
