QUOTE Italian Totti announces international retirement http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=446787&cc=4716ROME, July 20 (Reuters) - AS Roma striker Francesco Totti said on Friday that he had retired from international football. Totti, who made 58 appearances for Italy scoring nine goals, said he was taking an extended break from the national team after they won the World Cup last July and he has now decided to quit the Azzurri completely. 'The word finished is ugly but I have taken this decision to end the chapter with the national team for various physical reasons and not technical,' the 30-year-old told a news conference. 'I have weighed up for a year after the World Cup what to do and I have decided to finish with the national team in order not to create problems for the Azzurri staff. I am sorry, but health is the most important thing.' Totti broke his ankle last year and was rushed back for the 2006 World Cup in Germany. He was expected to have to undergo another operation during this close-season to remove a plate put in to help the ankle but doctors said recently it was not needed. One of the most gifted players in the world, Totti has never fully achieved his potential at international level despite his World Cup winners' medal. The one-club man, idolised by Roma supporters since making his debut aged 16, was arguably in the form of his life last season even with the plate in his ankle. He was Serie A's top scorer with 26 goals and earned the European Golden Boot as Roma finished second in the league behind Inter Milan. I believe Roma will benefit from his international retirement. Italy will need to find another talisman to replace him |

Totti is not that young anymore. he cant play with 100% for both club n international level with all those screws n plates in his leg.
i'm sure he's dying to push Roma for some CL glory n to taste the Scudetto once again, while with the Azzurri he oledi won the biggest prize there. its disappointing from the POV of Azzurri fans, but certainly a welcome news for any Roma fans. |

Pirlo and Totti not playing in the same position so really can't compare the two. I think Alesandro Rossina from Torino will become a great replacement for Totti in a few years time. The problem is he is still young right now and lack the experience that Totti got. He is doing well in the Under-21 squad though. Looking forward to him wearing the Azzuri jersey in the future...
Anyway I personally think AS Roma will benefit from his retirement form the national team |

frankly speaking Totti was never really able to fully showcase his talents n abilities in the Azzurri shirt. what people tend to remember are those bad things like poor performance n the spitting incident, while his heroic display in Euro 2000 n WC 2006 never been fully appreciated.
now that he won the WC, its good for him to retired from it, n put a full stop to all those controversies. |

lol where u brought that ? mind tel me ?
i like that kit very much, but i seriously cant afford rm200++ for a jersey... the 'one of eleven' is kinda a motto/slogan for Diadora or something. well there's 11 players in a team when playing, got it ? This post has been edited by Chrisky: Jul 23 2007, 08:23 PM |

u mean the new Kappa kit (fake) will b available next month ?
n i believe the Chivu-shit will finally conclude by 2day or 2molo... reports are that Moratti made a 15mil euro cash offer to us. i dont know how true is that, but it seem highly likely now, with the rumours of Francesco Modesto gonna be annouced came out at the same time (Modesto was meant to b our new LB, which is not going to happen if Chivu stays). n finally, HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY to our future il Capitano - De Rossi ! well he's bday was yesterday... |

alrite i believe the Chivu-shit is FINALLY settled - once n for all.
confirmed news is that Moratti was in Rome laz nite (Italy time), n had a 2 hours talks with our management. No official annoucement yet, but some usual reliable n trustable sources indicated its a done deal : Chivu to Inter for 14.5mil euro, which including the half-ownership of Marco Andreolli (the next Nesta they call him - LOL). of coz i still holding my breath for the official news. n 2day is the 80th anniversary festival in Stadio Olimpico... the new kit from Kappa will finally revealed, n our new boys will b officially presented. |
