Having driven the latest non-hybrid City and Jazz before, I'd say the paddles shifters are not necessary for both cars.

The Honda CVTs have a brilliant shift logic which I'm too lazy to describe here, but suffice to say, the driver can easily use the throttle to control the RPM for overtaking maneuvers, within the capabilities of the engine, of course. The driver just need to learn how to take advantage of it, if in doubt, just put your foot down. Paddle shifters are not needed.
