hi all, I want to get a pick-up for city drive. not going to carry loads. i just prefer high-rise car but only budget around RM100k. but after reading here and there, most people say nissan navara provides the best passenger comfort because it uses coil spring. triton is also using coil spring and now have merdeka+gst discount up to rm15k. quite attractive to me. thinking of getting the triton vgt at premium edition. i am sitting my baby car seat at the back. don't want him to jump till neck break if the back is bumpy. Mitsubishi triton won carsifu award best pick-up and best diesel engine. why everybody say it is not good compared to ford ranger or navara, or even hilux? for suv, hrv is pretty but many comments say h brand service sux and got a lot of problem. or wait for proton geely suv? car expert here please advice. tax holiday ending soon. dilemma.

idk about west malaysia, but in em, mitsubishi is known for its bad service centre. hence why ppl shy away from triton. granted, this was 10-15 years back, idk now

For passenger service only Nissan got the comfort.
But safety not up to mark

I'm driving triton vgt gs since 4 years ago. Overall quite happy with it. Need to do small mod at the rear to smooth the ride.

Service and spare part so far no issue. Last year did some mod. Install alphatech ecu to increase horsepower and torque. Change rear and front bumper to steel one and sport rim.

Still very strong after 177,000 km and main usage is on highway every weekend jb-kl

if you are not going to carry stuff a pick up is not ideal...

where will you store the luggage? the back area usually not so easy to keep safe and dry

and the seating area is not so comfortable...

why not look into a 2nd hand SUV?

i tak mampu bayar minyak triton says it can go 17km/l. wonder how true that is.

my company uses Triton as company car, and the cargo bed creaks.

granted, it is a site work horse with 100k ++ kms on the clock...

suv mostly out of budget. don't want perodua or current proton. geely p1 pula haven't arrives. sst kicks in baru it come. old hrv no stock. new hrv dunno the price. brv and avanza i dont like. asx pula scare no resale value <-- typical malaysian.

all I can say... now many people use truck not for its 4WD but for its ganaz look... you go to any 4WD mod shop and you'll be surprised on how good the look of their mod... of course expensive...

truck has different type of attraction... when you drive it then you know... got power... got size... when you come out... people stop and give way... you can't get that with vios, camry or accord...

first mod must be the sport rim la... get 17" or larger... get the 265 tyer width... it will get your top speed down la... but the look is so ganaz....

again, this is in em. and the last time ive sit in the cabin of a mitsubishi 4x4 was during the mitsubishi storm era.

the build quality is the same as isuzu invader.

the build quality and the service centre should already been improved, but the mentality is still there. hence why ppl still shying away from mitsubishi

the reason i got a truck because i’m always drive at night or very early morning. Higher seat position means i can avoid getting my eyes glared by oncoming cars. Also to avoid paying duty to najib that time because truck is free duty.

so many tonneau cover u can choose.. from a simple tarpaulin cover all the way to the elaborate hard cover one.

Ts buy Triton for what. End up keep hutang. I income untung bersih lowest ever last month 24k. But just drive axia e. I work 1 month already can buy cash. No need hutang.

But to achieve that i have no gf. Have to work 6 days a week. No gf. No workers. I have no life. I miss bn. Last time can get 34k permonth with work and gf during bn gomen. Now ph gomen have to ikat perut abit

This is true..seen those heavily modified with oversize wheels, sport exhaust, snorkle, strobe lights etc but never once gone off road. Its a waste IMO.

oh i forgot about that. I never use it because sometimes i use my truck to carry stuffs like 600kg sandbags, bikes, plywoods, gas tanks etc

Another reason people avoided triton of the privious gen was the roadtax.. 3200cc diesel engine.

any modern new trucks have good fuel economy now.

but the worry is not on fuel price but the maintenance. For example normal maintenance for fors ranger is rm600-700+. I just done maxcheck advance on my hilux, rm300+ and its every 5000km. Soon i need new set of tyres and its gonna be around rm3000 lol

Truck or SUV using ladder frame very useful when driving on flooded roads. No need to queue up with peasants. Just drive through and be home for dinner. Road blocks also climb on kerb to escape. So much with my former Triton then. Now no more.

I am a beginner, really scared la looking at others using tayar lipan go uphill during rainy season
but I was surprise at the capability of a modern day 4x4. I never got stuck... again not really hardcore lah...

They also wonder why I drove my brand new triton(still got plastic wrap) into the jungle...

triton VGT MIVEC owner here, yes pretty comfortable & tough if u wanna it to be.. extremely powerful, smooth & fuel efficient engine.. high position seat makes u feel like having a commanding drive.. but just dont be a sohai while driving a pick up, drive politely, safe and extra safe when raining

well.. pretty much improved compare to old generation trucks.. but when u go for trucks u have to live with the bumpy ride for rear passengers.. if u want comfort, then go for an SUV as mentioned by forumers here

the ride, even the softest one (navara np200) is bumpy as hell compared to any MPV

the ride will only get better with heavy loads (200 - 400kg) at the back

u don't have storage space unless you want to put your stroller & groceries at the back exposed to sun and rain

in short, unless you really need to carry big heavy thing often, then DON'T.

edit: i;ve been driving the L200 since 2001 and traded for the Triton in 2008. The Triton still strong until now. I use it primarily for work

highway u can get 8L/100km. city u get 11 - 12L/100km is very good liao

hilux for parts. the rest for the bling2 wheels

spare tyre theft is an issue for any make

toyota hilux all the way, but make sure you got spare car

I've no problems parking my former Triton anywhere. One thing for sure, I never wash it for months. Car is super dirty outside. Inside damn clean. Very OCD about interior cleanliness.

I am daily driving a Fortuner from 2009 due to the line of work i am in, it is basically the same thing lifted from the Hilux Vigo.

Bumpy as hell, unless you carry really heavy load. Luckily it is a company loaner, this is something i wont buy with my hard earn cash.

Get a SUV like HRV if you want that high ride with comfort. HRV seat height can be lowered to quite a low position should you have a change of feeling.

put a canopy behind loo... its like 50kg already right? then on top of canopy put roof rack and ladder behind... another 50kg... 100 kg... then add some xtra stuff loo

i rode those fortuner before, but it is not as bumpy as the hilux vigo (same gen as your fortuner)

but daily driving my hilux already made my butt used to the bumpiness already

The newer gen fortuner has improved a lot

But fuel consumption for 2.7 petrol is hilarious

A full tank of 80L gets u around 500km range only. And they get EEV certification for that
