Are you able to change the available channels on the AC68U bought from China to a different region? I'm reading that Asus is locking them down in the CFE.

since i am still on older notebook with only 2.0 and wireless G, i think i no need to upgrade to this beast although i will be receiving turbo 300mbps. The most i will just buy an wireless N dongle for my existing TM dlink

So you can see, the only different is Asia region got 4 more channels "36, 40, 44, 48" for you to choose but why do you need to struggle about the region issue? I have really no idea about your people doubtful. In Asia region, my router still can connect to channels 149, 153, 157, 161, 165, so why do you need to force yourself to connect to channels 36, 40, 44, 48? I can still get my China set connect to Unifi, so what do you worry for? Maybe in the previous post at few weeks ago, I did say have to telnet the territory. It is "optional". You do not necessary to do like that. The only different is China region do not has google play logo only. The China set Asus router do not link you to Google play store but they got a specific apk store, 豌豆荚. You do not need to struggle about this issue because you can search manually in your phone Google play to download the apk too. CFE is used to initialise before loading the OS, something like a PC BIOS. Asus has encrypted the CFE on some routers and made it difficult to reflash with other versions. They may impose other restrictions with a firmware update. It's not rumours btw but discussion on snbforums.

I was flashed to merlin firmware, then flash back again to asus stock firmware because do not have aimesh in merlin custom firmware.Similar with reflashing TM-AC1900 T-mobile to 68U has been restricted. |

china region version slim edition will not have aimesh also & come with specific feature which meet the china gov law |

So anyone ever ran into issues with customs if you buy the Asus routers from Tmall?
I have the WS880 so I don't really need a newer router, but an AC86U for <RM600 is damn tempting. |

Guys just a heads up, every year 11.11 TB, TMall, JD and all other sites will run into SUPER HEAVY TRAFFIC. There will 100% be delays in order fulfillment and delivery. Last year my items were delayed 2 months+ when I bought during 11.11 so if you are in a hurry don't wait. Just buy now and avoid the headache. Worst case scenario your items might even get lost during the event. Good luck to those who still insist on buying during 11.11
