ok..say for some reason there's a financier who is willing to give one of u like rm1.5 million to produce a movie...and of course he wants returns from his investment...the reason why he does not want to produce it himself is because he does not think he has the will to do it...coz he knows malaysians' attitude towards their own films... whistling.gif

but since he has the money, he wants to get somebody to do it...and he'd like to approach new guys...coz he wants something different...and hopefully this new venture might overtake hollywood or something tongue.gif

so just a theoretical question - would any of u guys have the guts to grab this opportunity and blow his mind...(or hollywood) by producing the best malaysia movie ever and try to reap millions of profits from box office collection by just utilising the 1.5 million - nothing more nothing less? genre - love, action, drama, porn etc is up to you...as long as it could be sold legitimately in the cinemas

and remember, the money can only be used to make movies...not venturing into any other business deals...and the market is only the cinema taking, forget the ancilliary markets etc...

don't ask me why i'm asking this...i think it's just a relevant question for this thread...since i see so many great movie reviewers here....and maybe there's aspiring film producers here too? tongue.gif

so any comments? or criticisns? or whatever?

remember...it's rm1.5 million...not USD1.5 million...

If I have the money, why not.

Instead, I will produce a local movie that 2-3 times better than Yasmin and Jack Neo. In the movie, the language that they use is not restricted at all. You all can not only hear malay language as there are english, mandarin, cantonese, hokkien, tamil and many more language that is found in Malaysia.

The movie will be about how people is being affect by the malaysia's goverment rules, religion rules and NEP towards their freedom.

Tan Hong Ming and Umi short movie is da bomb! and caused zero ringgit to produce it!

short movie easy quite ler coz it's short... no need to pay so much on casts, location, etc etc....but ask them to produce a feature film, say more than 80 mins...then sure different feel one...coz the story needs to be really good to engage the audience for the long duration...

You know, you guys are thinking so big about 1.5million. I dont think Malaysia ever made millions from a single film because the audience that watches movie are so little. The majority are just buying stoopat pirated DVD or downloading and most malaysians can't even understand english properly and you know, the biggest audience so far is Malay love story which in the first place doesn't attract much from other races (other than Malays) unless its Yasmin Ahmad quality....

so talk about raking in millions? You gotta first start by thinking how to get people from all races to watch your movie

Oh and by the way since we're on the topic... I challenge all movie makers out there...

PLEASE MAKE MALAYSIA'S FIRST FEATURE FILM THAT IS FULLY ENGLISH WITH NON-MALAY ACTORS
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

p/s: so sorry if u guys feel its a bit too racist a post... I am seriously pissed for the lack of appearance of non-malays on screen and also pissed that there is no english malaysian film

English films? ever heard of Lip to Lips or Spinning Gasing or Ah Lok Cafe or The REd KEbaya?

theyve been there, done that my friend...still cannot sell one...

btw - Yasmin's films that good eh? ever seen Rabun?

and cost of producing at rm1.5m is not big actually...most silly malay films now are at that budget smile.gif

exactly, a movie shot in dv? muz b a big joke if u wanna get it into cinemas.
HD? there is oni one current post house which can giv u pure HD. n it is not cheap to do so.
so let's say if u get the DOP, director, crew for free. u still have logistics and paper work which need money for u to handle.
which is y i am pointing out to people, not too speak too loud when u noe nth abt the cost of shooting
*
yupp...some ppl think it's just pacak camera...shoot..do simple edit..then can get into cinema...they forget the in between process uses a lot of money....and to blow up the thing for cinema also needs loads of money....

i think DV can be blown up for cinema release...but quality wont be that great ler....depending on the compression they use when shooting i think...but i'm so not well versed in this, so no comment from me now...gotta learn some more first tongue.gif

i read that 24 Days Later was shot in DV in some of the crucial scenes...maybe that should be a guide to go low-cost...

oh..in this inflation age...RM1.5M so ciput actually....value of money gone down

on a slightly different note - what do u guys think of Yasmin's films camerawork? i see Mokhsin and i think the cost for that wasnt that high since she always go wide-single-shot...pacak kamera and 5,6 ppl acting in out of the frame...hehe...no need tracking panning or reverse shots...it's creative but at some point kinda malas (well, it's her art tongue.gif)

but i bet the DoP and camera crew boys sure lepak one since no need to penat2 do tracking etc...

if u compare to Cinta's shot...see the camera never duduk diam one...always moving everywhere...and possible that's why ppl love Kabir's work in terms of cinematography
