The current XM2 made us home safely during last trip without any issues apart from those hardened rubbers giving out a little too much noise and a harsh ride. just recently i started noticing the tyres making humming or wooing noise at speed of 80km/h and above and changing pitch the faster i go.

i've decided to just change them since they're old anyways. Im putting comfort and low noise level as the first priority as this car is for carrying people and my driving style is calm and consistent so super sticky tyres is not that important.

while im at it,i want to up the wheel size from 16 to 17 as well for looks. understandably, this will also increase the noise so im looking for tyres that are very good at keeping it silent to offset the effects of upping the size and giving more comfort at the same time, and maybe also good for FC.

current size is 205/60/R16. to use 17', my options come down to 215/50/R17 and 205/55/R17 the latter is more preferable but not a very common size i think.

heard good reviews about hankook v12, but availability of the sizes might be an issue. using advan fleva on my other car, so far so good, comfy even at low 215/45 profile and returns good FC as well. how does continental fare? i might opt for this brand since a conti shop is very near to my place. heard toyo is good also but where to find it?

215/50R17 would be slightly smaller compared to your current size (0.8% smaller in diameter and in circumference) while the 205/55 R17 would be 0.8% larger in diameter and in circumference. I think in the end which you choose would come down to how smaller you want your sidewall to look like when the tire is fitter (there's like a 5mm difference in sidewall height between the two). You can see the difference from a tire size calculator online smile.gif

I thought MC6 more like PS4 which is for performance.. if for comfort wouldn't the CC6 be more fitting? Apart from Conti, I think the Ecopia line from Bridgestone might be suitable as well.. Not sure about others.. still also doing research for a comfort low noise tire biggrin.gif haha

For this size 215/50r17 conti, uc6 would be good ..
Not noisy and wet weather very good

Im not looking for ultra low profile look.my intention to upsize to 17" is just to make the tyres look a bit more substantial against the tall bulbous body of the rondo.slightly smaller diameter of the 215 would also give a bit more economy in the city,which is a plus but thinner sidewall may be a tad harsher too.hmm decisions decisions...

You should go either 215/50/17 which is slightly smaller diameter or 225/50/17 which is slightly larger. If you want comfort, 225/50/17 will be a bit more comfortable in general than 215/50/17 due to the taller sidewall by about 0.5cm. I would not suggest to go with 205/55/17 because too odd size hence very limited choices.

V12E2 is an excellent tire and the best value for money now. It gives UHP level performance comparable to PS3/4 yet provide low noise level like mid range tires and sidewall also still relatively comfortable. Since you're ok with Fleva at such low profile size, then I'd think you'd be even happier to use the V12E2 coz it should be at least as comfortable and silent, with even more proven/better performance.

If you're talking about Continental then you need to go with at least the MC6 but this is still very new tires with not much proven review on it so not sure if its as good. Anything lower than MC6 is not as good anymore. Since MC6 price is higher than V12E2 then the V12E2 is the better value.

As for Toyo, is mostly overrated tires, especially the Japanese models like T1R & T1S, so not really worth it IMHO.

225 isn't it too wide?would it affect fc much?i thought wider tyres also much noisier.the fleva is on my other car which is a skoda.it's a well made car that's quiet on its own already.on my korean rondo on the other hand, choosing the best tyres is much more crucial.

i guess V12 it is then.im going with 215 just hoping that V12 is good enough to still provide more comfort than my current xm2 despite having (very) slightly thinner profile.

Well if you're really concern about comfort then actually you should not think upgrade to 17 to begin with. smile.gif No matter how good the V12E2 is, it would not be able to match the comfort level of mid range comfort tire like XM2 with a taller sidewall, so don't expect that.

If you want comfort. look for tyres that fit the touring segment (example : bridgestone turanza/continental premium contact/michelin primacy/hankook ventus prime). If you can afford to pay that extra bit, better to avoid the bottom segment tyres. Higher segment tyres is like insurance policy that will come in handy when emergency situation happens, and you have that extra edge of margin to save yourself.

But the v12evo2 is genuinely a really good product that strikes the balance of performance, comfort and price for most of us. I would say it is at the very least the above average tyre that should be a default benchmark tyre choice when considering a change.

Why i say so, because i just changed mine to v12evo2, the difference is noticeable. I now understand why 6UE5T makes this tyre the default choice of recommending it.

Or if you can wait a month or 2, wait for the soon to be launched falken fk510. Even better grip and control performance, and still with a slightly better refinement rating compared to v12evo2. Pricing is quite close to v12evo2 from another forum member's source.

Yea... I understand.. but i think at 5mm its very small difference that you would be better of with the more common size smile.gif

To be honest I am in the same boat as icyd, needing a tire for comfort and low noise for my car. A UHP product is definitely not the right tire for this application. Right now I am looking at the Ecopia EP300 series, the UC6/CC6, Falken ZE914, or sticking back with the XM2.. I heard good things about the EP300 series, but can't find a proper review.. UC6/CC6 seems good also and has some reviews... Falken is a hit and miss.. Some say its UHP, some say got good noise control and its cheap but if not mistaken its not an easy tire to find (also missing reviews):S

side note; Reviews here are from automotive websites and not necessarily reviews from direct owner wink.gif

oh didnt see that tire before.. hmmm need to read review first and check the price for it before I can say much haha

Edit: I think its not available for my car size (185/55R16)..hence why it wasn't on my radar initially

I think you should be able to feel the difference of comfort due to that 5mm sidewall height. Well I say so because for me I can notice the difference.

Because MC6 may still provide decent grip performance while others below it like CC6 & UC6 are all too lousy in that respect. Maybe I should've said minimum go with CPC series but that one apparently only have up to CPC2 in MY market which is a very old model. If can get CPC5 then that is also pretty good choice and maybe more comfortable a bit than MC6. Having said that, doesn't mean UHP tires are uncomfortable too. For example the V12E2 which I keep on suggesting is actually also a UHP tire but I'd say the comfort and noise level are very comparable with mid range comfort tires but gives higher grip performance too. See comment from wkc5657 above.

In Car & Driver test last year, the V12E2 only generated 66db of noise level which was damn low, especially considering it's UHP tire category.

Yup, changed last weekend at 51,000km. Maybe will write more about it after 1000km when the compound settles/stabalises to normal driving and climate. But initial assessment for my daily use is quite significant improvement. icon_rolleyes.gif

You fellors in klang/selangor area really can have it cheaper. I changed mine for 400/pcs. Before GST abolishment, got quoted the same price, that means either the seller or the dealer/distributor pocketed the gst savings bangwall.gif ranting.gif

In only managed to bargained for free metal tyre valves to make myself feel that little bit better....
