Before we know it, he might get the Gripen for Malaysia MRCA instead of Super Hornet or Rafale sweat.gif

You would be surprised

With many militaries investing in heavy stealth, ECM jamming and SEAD, quite a few commentators have praised laser beam-riding systems like the RBS-70, and for SAMs/AAMs which are mainly IR/radar-guided it is indeed rare

The fact that our friend here can even understand the difference speaks volumes about his enthusiasm for the job, really good to hear thumbup.gif

P.S. plus he is honest enough to say "short-ranged". This is a guy who has really been doing his research.
actually Gripen NG might be a better idea

more sustainable and still quite capable

I know TUDM have their hots for 2-engine but if you ask them whether they want 12 Rafale or 18 Gripen, I wonder what they will say...
*
True. We're quite anal with twin-engine requirement. The geography being physically separated by the SCS and other parameters kinda require us to.

But we used to operate the F-5E anyway.. Or was it the RF-5E? hmm.gif

I have no objections with Gripen NG to supplement the Super Hornet, if it's up to me. But Saab better include their Erieye.. lol

Alas, we can only look at our neighbors acquisition with envy as our political leadership unfortunately plays a half-hearted role with ours

of kos la....Super Hornet or Rafale both got twin engine...better opt to gripen..1 engine only..more jimat to purchase and maintenance...heheheh..

joke only....well...he already said he will get the opinion of military first before anything else and RMAF want twin engine from he start so maybe not gripen...

he should learn considering the shit he stir during su MKM remark at parliament. at least now we know he learn and got someone with military info as his aid.

Gripen NG is the E/F version right?its still new and we dont know it ups and down so better let other people use it first. Brazil and Sweden will use it first and we will see it in action soon.

as for TUDM,its hard to say considering all can be change if the head is change and they will change view/planning plus with the money never been allocate thus hard to guess...we can only dream nod.gif

IINM Erieye is yahudi origin tongue.gif

on paper E/F looks damn good, it's basically a Super Gripen and comparable with F-16V
holy shit that looks bad!! shocking.gif

I thought it's indigenously developed & build by Saab and therefore Swedish, no?

I'm sorry, I was thinking about the C-295 which is another option offered to us. That one operates an Israeli radar.

Yeah the Saab Erieye seems popular. Not sure what price. Been thinking more about MRCA and MPA than AEW recently.

MPA... On the table we have the CN-235, Sab Bombardier Q400 or Global 6000, Kawasaki P-1, P-8 Poseidon, ATR-72 MPA... not sure what else.
*
It's cool man..

MPA.. I'm not sufficiently informed of those to make impartial or even partial preferences.

Though I do wonder, if an airship (instead of aircraft) equipped with relevant sensors would be a viable option for longer airtime, especially for coastal monitoring. hmm.gif it's not as mobile or agile though, compared to fixed wing aircraft.

But it looks seriously dire. If it's not a write-off, this looks like years worth of yard time.

Latest pic she's almost completely on her starboard side.

Indo Defence 2018: Indonesia acquires follow-on batch of Skyshield air-defence system

Ridzwan Rahmat, Jakarta - IHS Jane's Defence Weekly
08 November 2018

Key Points

• Indonesia has signed a second contract for the Skyshield air-defence system with Rheinmetall
• Deliveries, which are scheduled to begin in 2019, will bolster the air force’s base-defence capabilities

The Indonesian Air Force (Tentara Nasional Indonesia – Angkatan Udara or TNI-AU) is scheduled to begin receiving its second batch of Oerlikon Skyshield air-defence effectors and sensors from late-2019, a representative from Rheinmetall confirmed with Jane’s on 8 November at the Indo Defence 2018 exhibition in Jakarta.

The equipment will be delivered under a contract that was signed by the Indonesian government in mid-2017, but became effective only in 2018. It is Indonesia’s second contract for a similar air-defence system with Rheinmetall, and the disparity between its signing date, and its effective date was due to funding issues, said the company.

Rheinmetall has declined to reveal the number of effectors and sensors that have been acquired under the second contract, citing customer confidentiality issues.

The Skyshield air-defence system is operated by the TNI-AU’s special forces ground corps known as the Korps Pasukan Khas (PASKHAS). The system, which was first acquired by the Indonesian government in 2009, is deployed primarily for protection of airstrips, and other critical infrastructure.

KAI inks defense export deal with Indonesia

2018-11-08 17:50

JAKARTA/SEOUL, Nov. 8 (Joint Press Corps-Yonhap) -- Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI), a South Korean defense firm, signed a contract worth 100 billion won (US$89.4 million) with Indonesia on Thursday, its officials said.

The company inked the contract to export three KT-1B trainer aircraft and install radar equipment and guns on the Indonesian Air Force's T-50i planes on the sidelines of the Indo Defence 2018 Expo & Forum in Jakarta.

KAI is to deliver the KT-1Bs within 28 months of the contract's implementation, and it will complete the T-50i project within 25 months.

KAI exported the KT-IB overseas three times between 2001 and 2008. Indonesia's military is known to use the KT-1B for basic training as well as for air show programs.

The company has been pushing to export its Surion utility helicopters and FA-50 light attack fighters to the Southeast Asian country.
