Low RCS airframe, AESA radar and extra long range AAM like Meteor...these are already basic requirements today.

Su-35 has huge RCS, high-powered PESA radar that's easy to detect by RWR and regular-ranged RVV-AE missile....somewhat inadequate, TBH

Hawk flies for longer [ID18D3]

BETH STEVENSON

Deliveries of an initial batch of an upgraded version of the Indonesian air force's BAE Systems Hawk 100/200 fleet are under way, providing the light attack/trainer aircraft with a refurbishment that will extend its operational life.

Of the 32-strong Hawk fleet operated by the Indonesian air force, eight are under contract to be upgraded, which includes the aircraft being stripped for maintenance, with the aim of extending the life of the fleet that was brought into service in the 1980s/1990s out to 2030.

Michael Salkeld, regional director for BAE Systems International, told the Show Daily that this work is being carried out under a contract signed in 2017. He added that a navigation system is also being added to the Hawks.

The ambition is to upgrade all of the aircraft to this new standard, although for now only these first eight are under contract to be modified.

The company claims there are more tangible requirements for the acquisition of a new fleet of Hawks elsewhere, although there is no reason why Indonesia would not consider a new-build buy, particularly considering the air force is looking to bolster its fighter fleet and maintain a capability of a minimum of 150 combat aircraft.

RCS comparable to Rafale at 1 m2 is probably enough...unlike Flankers at 12 - 15 m2. KFX also has four recessed hardpoints under the fuselage to partially hide AAM...

Not stealthy, but should reduce detection range.

Malaysia Completes Acceptance of Thales ForceSHIELD GBADS

November 8, 2018

user posted image

The Malaysian armed forces have completed Full System Acceptance (FSA) for their new ForceSHIELD Ground-Based Air Defence System (GBADS).

The milestone was achieved with support from Thales and its Malaysian partner, Global Komited, a member of the Weststar Group and took place in October.

“Thales is proud of the strong collaboration we have with the Malaysian Armed Forces and Global Komited that have enabled us to reach this successful milestone that supports the safety and security of Malaysian skies. Through this project, Thales contributed significant offsets in Malaysia including training, tactical simulators and investments in building the future of defence technology with an MSc degree in collaboration with UPNM. We remain focused on building sustainable, long-term partnerships with Malaysia and we look forward to growing our collaboration with the Malaysian Armed Forces as they build capabilities for the future,” said Thomas Pistre, Country Director, Thales in Malaysia.

Malaysia had contracted for the ForceSHIELD GBADS from Thales in September 2015. Thales also provides Air Surveillance and ISR systems to the Royal Malaysian Air Force as well as Combat Management Systems, Electronic Warfare and Satcom solutions to the Royal Malaysian Navy.

Ridzwan Rahmat, Jakarta - IHS Jane's Defence Weekly

The Indonesian Ministry of Defence (MoD) has restarted the acquisition processes for four weaponised medium-altitude, long-endurance unmanned aerial vehicles (MALE UAVs), and a passive electronic support measure (ESM) tracker that is meant to strengthen defences around Ranai airbase.

These acquisitions have been restarted because of a variety of issues including disagreements over localised production processes and funding arrangements, an official from the ministry told Jane's at the Indo Defence 2018 exhibition in Jakarta.
