I found this tip at a forum. I felt it very useful, therefore I would like to share with you at here.

In order to speed up your hard disk speed, we need to configure a special buffer in the computer's memory. This will enable it to better deal with interrupts made from the disk.

How to do?

Step 1: Key in SYSEDIT.EXE in the Run command.

Step 2: A System Configuration Editor windows will appear. Please looking for the SYSTEM.INI file.

Step 3: Try to find a line with text [386enh].

Step 4: Enter a blank line after the [386enh] and key in Irq14=4096 (note: case sensitive).

Step 5: Click on the File menu, then choose Save.

Step 6: Finally, reboot your PC. Done. Yahoooooo.

Additional info: The most speed improvement is visible with IDE drives, however there are reports that this tweak also does good for SCSI disks.

i just try but afraid will damage either my system or hardisk so i cancel

so means this tips are for PATA not SATA HDDs???

Its like OC your HD, of course will shorten the lifespan

If it's purpose is to overclock the HDD, then I don't think I want to do it (Then again, I don't think there is such a thing as HDD overclocking!!! )

coz my PATA is my 2nd drive...
there is actually HDD OC-ing, heck even Cd drives can even OC..REALLY!

So it is meant for Win 98 or ME ?

me also feel excited for a while there..hoping that it can speed up my 3 5400rpm hdd

not sure it work or not... but one thing i encounter that my temp for hardisk raise 2deg

IRQ14 is the interrupt request handle for IDE drives. Anyways i believe most IDE drivers that come recommended with the chipset (Intel Chipset Utility, Nforce IDE driver and such) already come with special interrupt handling buffers factored in.

yup no diff
i using vista/sata2 n not in fat32

better not to try... if ur hdd faulty... need do much work... send back RMA.. if warranty over... need to buy new 1... seems hdd always got bad sector...
