The HBO app works on my phone but it does not work on my tv box. Seems like stuck constantly. Login with keyboard difficult and video playback image does not show up properly. Can hear voice only and some patches of garbage on screen.

Only work stream is the live TV stream.

Anyway the app is a phone app, it is difficult to use on tvbox.

Disappointed with HBO and Astro, always release TV unfriendly apps.

ya, too bad... cannot buy standalone to try, must go thru astro subscription.

really, i like to try it.... no chance for any free trial, i suppose.
yr box could do astrogo but cannot do this hbo go?

that is not good news.

if so, here we go again... what boxes can do hbo go... root, unroot, hide root...??
*
Yes my box can do astro Go but not hbo Go. I have root, but hide it using Magisk. Could be it tried to play using certain frequency and resolution not supported by my old TV.

we really have little idea until we hear others using other boxes have success or failure.

i could get into the UI and browse with my 2 boxes but haven't got any video playing - no movies pack.

will try to get that and try again.

one thing, i tried (and 2 others already said too) - AndroidTV - it crashes after log in screen, can't even browse.
*
Yeah possibly they purposely crippled the app for TV.

The play store mentioned using mirror or cast to play on TV. It works, but I hate using mirroring as it gives bad image from time to time. Irritating.

I've the HBO Go apps installed on my MiBox
was using my US account on it and have no issues

but I don't have Astro movie pack, how to test? tongue.gif
*
The 'HBO Go Malaysia' downloadable from play store. It's a different app from the HBO Go ( US ).

Just be aware that the initial download is damn slow. Almost make people think download is not working. LOL.

I don't think you can use the US account to log on to this HBO Go Malaysia.

Just want to report that I have HBO Go Malaysia working flawlessly on my tv box now.

But since I don't have a 4k TV, I am unable to check if it works with 4K stream.

I don't claim to say what I did will apply to other boxes, it seems there are a few different problems with this apps. It's NOT a simple matter of configuration.

and yeah the playstore for ATV is different

Based on these two counts, my box is not ATV.

Maybe HBO GO Malaysia cripples itself if the app is run on ATV.

HBO Asia has confirmed they are currently working on the ATV version
now it's just a matter of time of waiting patiently

anyway, if your android box is running on older version, it seems the current app is compatible, I can find it and install it on my mibox3 running on v7, but the one on v8 is not compatible
*
Many ways to read this answer from HBO Asia.

Could be a tai chi to cool off the complaints.

Anyone here tried the latest version - HBO GO Malaysia 1.0.95 Update. Is it working on your Android TV?
One thing for sure it's work on MINIX U9H.
*
It is not a TV app. It is a phone app. But if you side load it, it will work, but difficult to navigate.

Iflix is able to have the same app, suitable for both phone and TV, and it will exhibit totally different and device friendly interface.

People like HBO Go Malaysia and Astro, are unwilling to be TV friendly.

Is the English subtitle working for u all on live tv?
*
Not working for the current one which I am watching. Even shows can choose sound track in English or other languages. That's bullshit too. Not working.

Maybe it might work for certain movies.

Hi frens, i installed HBO Go Malaysia apk on my unifi tv STP is not working. The 1st interface looks good but right after i click ASTRO as the subcriber i cannot input Astro ID and PW due to input column vanished.

I checked HBO Go Malaysia is compatible with my Unifi TV firmware, but i don’t know why have this problem 🤷‍♂️

Does anyone encounter this problem and able to solve it. Hope can share his to solve 😆 😆

Thanks!!!😁

I think it's a Astro problem, as the login page is rendered by Astro.

Astro could have funny things in the web page and causing different devices behave differently. I experience that before on my device. You want to check if you have similar problem with AstroGo beta. If you have login difficulty with AstroGo beta, that will proof that Astro is the culprit.

I believe that I have the movie package for my Astro Subscription, how do I access the HBO Go? Do I use back the Astro Go app or use a separate app?
*
"HBO Go Malaysia" is an application you can find it from play store. There are a few HBO something, make sure your find the right one. I think it is still also accessible from Astro Go app.

No extra charges right? I am not sure what package of Astro I have, but I do have Fox Movies, HBO channels. So I supposed the HBO Go, it's free right?
*
It is not free, you paid for it in your Astro package. LOL.

Maybe it auto detect and if no available target it will grey out ? Do you have a suitable Chromecast device on the same network ?

Yes. My Smart TV. It has always been connected to the same network.. But the casting icon is still grey. Hmm. Weird. Looking at my YouTube app now, it seems to be working on YouTube.
*
You need to do more work to find out if it is the TV problem, or HBO problem, or your phone problem.

YouTube is a bad tool to isolate the problem because Youtube is able to cast to another YouTubr, it does not need the Chromecast server function.

Basically maybe install mv cast player on your phone, play a video and see if it can be casted to your TV.

Do you mean when I cast the Youtube from my phone, it only connects directly to the YouTube app on my TV? that's why it's working? Is that what is going with Netflix? Cause when I click on the "cast icon" on my phone, it opens up the Netflix app on my TV instead of opening the  selected movie and play.
*
I don't know enough about casting but I only know there are too many different technologies around, and each does things differently. So an experience with a particular TV, a particular app, ....may not be applicable to another.

Yes, i have google chrome installed. Beside that, i also have google play services installed and AstroGo working fine.

But i can’t login my Astro ID because my HBO Go Malaysia even not allow me to insert text 😓

Actually i tested HBO Go Malaysia via my iphone. It working fine. Thats why i feel weird android version the text input colum vanished at my unifi stb. Anyone experience HBO Go Malaysia is working fine with unifi stb?
*
I think I mentioned in this forum before I also have login difficulty with HBO Go M on my device. I also have similar problem with AstroGo beta on my device. I don't have problem with login if I use AstroGo 8.2.6.

So I say the problem is correlated. Since the login pages in AstroGo beta and HBO Go M are the same, the layout, the color scheme, ..... it points to the same common denominator, Astro server.

The problem is Astro. Likely the Astro server is detecting something about our devices, and do something strange. I don't have problem when using phone.

Yes correct you are right. I can’t use AstroGo Beta while AstroGo 8.2.6 is OK.

So coclusion is my device (unifi stb) limitation?
*
Well, to be exact, it is a combination of your device and also AstroGo server limitation. AstroGo places very high requirement on the webview client's capability.

I have gathered increased evidence now.

I think the AstroGo beta ( which is now official, no more beta ) requires certain javascript capabilities, but such capabilities are not found in certain devices. Your unifi stb and my device are examples of two such devices, which the default webview is poor the capability but cannot use the chrome webview automatically, even though it is installed.

We need to either :-

1. Update the system to use new and latest chrome web view,

or

2. Hack the app so that it will be forced to use chrome web view, if it is installed and available.

I am still at testing stage of item (2). The unfortunate result of (2) is that both HBO and Astro will need to be hacked in order to be forced to use chrome web view.
