Hi Sifus!

Need some help.

I am having a problem with my current v.cam which is cybershot dcx t66. apparently the video camera can only record up to 30 minutes which is bad as i have to restart recording it manually after 30 minutes of recording. and that is bad for gaming recording and video editing.

i heard this is a common problem.

anyway, i wanted to look for a new camera, which is either:

a) no limit in time recordinga (as long as there is space in the sd card).

or

b) a v.cam that can alwasy auto record it after it reaches its limit. (this one will still be some problem, maybe due to the recording time resumption will have some lag into it but better than nothing). It would be great if it can do what my gamecapture device who will resume the record by auto record everytime the video time reaches 30 minutes.

hope to get sifus and master assistance on any good cam around RM400 and below.

thanks! notworthy.gif notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

30 minutes video limit is not a bug. It is maximum duration for any still camera to record video. Breaching this limit will put it under video camera category with different tax and price structures. That is why panasonic lumix gh5 is under video camera category event the body is more like dslr/mirrorless.

As for screen recording, try to look on screen capture recording software like Camtasia.

wait, you mean there is no camera that can record more than 30 minutes at a time?

if that is the case, i wonder how those gamers record their gameplay more than 30minutes.

Know the difference between STILL CAMERA and VIDEO CAMERA. A still camera which can record video is still a STILL CAMERA and cap to 30 minutes limit of video recording. You need more that that, get a proper VIDEO CAMERA. Why dont you google '30 minutes video limit' to further educate yourself.

Go to sony, nikon, canon and mft in this forum and ask if their camera can record more than that. Or better yet, try record video using your hp and see if it can go beyond that.

hi thx for the feedback.

actually, i tried googling about that 29:59 fiasco that is related to recording timing. aparently there is some EU policy, overheating and camera limitation about that, but it seems to be too technical for a noob like me to understandg and eventually comprehend the solution that were suggested. (Mp4 limit, AVCHD, h.264, GH etc etc).

anyway, so what you are saying that if i go with a cam coder, such as andoer etc, my recording wont be restricted to 30 minutes?

Short answer, yes. Long answer, probably not. Here's why. Yes any camcoder can record until the memory full but no, cheaper camera tend to go very basic. There would be no video in recording through aux/video/hdmi in. So you are limited to live feed only (through your camera lens) and record in front of your computer screen. This is not the proper way to capture your game. Unless you want yourself to be in the part of the video.

What gamer do is screen capture and that is why I suggest Camtasia in the first place as it is within your budget.OBS is another app which is free but not that user friendy. My best guess is they are using Atomos. But that is for another day.

thx for the info.

actually yes, i want to be in the part of the video.

i got an elgato so that is the part it captures the game video. however i want a camcoder to record me playing that game as well. With that, i will edit the video in PPro to add layer on the gameplay video. i can use green screen as well to record my action. problem is, while the gamecapture can record my game with an unlimited time, the camera that records me while playing the game wont be able to do that, unless i do major editing.

i was hoping for minimal editing because its pretty tough to sync both of the video if it doesnt record continuously through the whole session.

so with that, what are my options?

hope for your help on this.

Quite easy actually. Assuming you recorded 1hour games. You will have 1 long video captured and 2 shorter video from your camera (because of 30 min cap). In premiere cc, put the longer video on track v1 and 2 shorter video on track v2 so you will have 2 clips. Cut the video in track v1 into 2 approximately the length of clip 1 in track v2. The reason is to match v1 and v2 with 2 clips each.

Now select clip1 in v1 and v2 >right mouse click>sync clips>audio... and wait the magic happen. Repeat the same on clip 2.

If you can understand this concept, you will find 2 other way which is much faster to sync the clip using audio.

Happy learning.

wow! this is good. but how can the clip in v1 & v2 be in sycn because there are variance in the audio effect.

i mean v1 = game recorder.
v2 = my video recording.

v1 will have sound from the game. but v2 will have sound from the game and include my voice/comments as well. will Premier Pro have the capability to sync it despite the audio is not exactly the same.

Perhaps you didn't notice while you wrote it. I bold it for you. Audio sync does not only check the available sound, it also check the silence. Unless you talking like a rapper nonstop and no gap in between words, it can detact the moment of silence and pick up the same waveform of the background sound from both clips.
