I'm in Japan right now and a relative is asking me to buy a Switch for his kid. It's much cheaper in Japan; lowest I've found here is RM1000 vs RM1200 (lowest I've found for Malaysian retailers) for the system alone while the games are around RM50 cheaper.
With warranty from Malaysian retailers being valid for only one year, I don't think this should be an issue since the switch is a reliable piece of hardware and the chances that the switch would have an internal or external failure is low based on what I've read up online.
Any reasons for not going ahead with this purchase?
ouu i wouldn't call the switch a reliable piece of hardware by any stretch of the imagination.
there are a bunch of issues that erected since it's launch, but that might have been a while ago and the new batches may have had the kinks worked out.

Mind sharing what they are?
I only know 2 people who have Switches, all other info I'm getting is from online forums. Both of the guys that have them said that they haven't had any problems but they've only owned theirs in less than a year.

I went through the comments, looks like thsee were mostly bugs than have been resolved with newer consoles, which explains the lack of issues my friends have had.
I bleed it out, Diggin' deeper just to throw it away!

most console launch will have an issue or two, Switch is no exception it's already more than a year old, almost all of the launch issues are already fixed newer batches shouldn't have any issues, Nintendo's hardware are lot more reliable compared to other consoles.
If you don't mind the warranty, grab it in Japan, as the previous shortage seems to be over already.
I bought mine from BIC during my recent trip to Sapporo. Approximately 1000 MYR. Happy with the purchase and I think it's worth it. Furthermore there are more accessories there for you to spend your saved money on. No issues thus far.
