QUOTE(BeastX @ May 21 2007, 06:59 AM) You must own the car for 9 mnths to qualify.. 70% tax off the intial retail price ... after 6 years old.. 10% off the remaining price every year after.. So very little tax if the car is 7 to 8 years old... hi, im planning to bring a car home (Merc SLK 230 year 1998) from NZ end of this year. but im not so sure how to calculate the tax. Would really appreciate if u can help me with this! Thanks

Getting Started

Its not worth it to bring in cars that you owned overseas. When my bro bought a holden astra back in melb he has to endure the pain and admin work till he gave up in brining back his car n he rather stayed there. As long as proton exists and under unjustified protection by our government (which I think its against human rights!), there's no no way our price can be as cheap as our neighbouring and other more developed countries. Thats the sad fact that we have endured for over 20 years! and are forced to pay unridiculously high amount to own a car.
I wonder how the sep. MITI thingy is gonna to take shape and if I remember some words correctly by our own Ministry of Trade, if at all possible, favors and lesser burden shall be made to malaysians/rakyats. I hope now they do realized, something which they should have done 15 years ago, is to take away the forever unforgiving high taxes on cars so ordinary malaysians can afford and drive a good and safe decent car for their own good which I think as a whole, have many good factors toward our country and individuals too.
