QUOTE(xcoolpc @ May 20 2007, 08:16 PM) It will leave a mark of its own. I think scratches can be polished off using a combination of ultra fine sandpaper and metal polish, but I haven't tried it so I'm not sure how well it would work. |

But people have sanded and polished their heat sinks until mirror shine? There was this forummer who cleaned his scratched CDs until like shining new using the similar method. Acrylic not the same?

im quite positive we can remove scratches on acrylic by polishing it. Try use pumice or french chalk... thats what i use to polish acrylic denture during practical classes

I suggest rubbing compound. But hard to find this stuff. Normally used to remove scratches on clear coat paints and polyurethane finishes. Works on plastic as well.
EDIT: doesn't work on deep scratches though. fine scratches only. This post has been edited by MetalZone: May 21 2007, 02:33 AM |

Use a coarse sand paper then finer ones and then still finer. Cant remember what grid number use finally. Only finishing using alcohol and I didnt mean CD head cleane, I meant the disk itself was higly scratched.

just leave it alone, nothing can be done..
Nail polish also no use, coz it will make worse, got thinner substance. Polish alone will remove the scratch but the surface of acrylic, the contour will not 100% flat if the scratch hard/deep you need to polish more. Result slightly out of reflective (bayang) image from acrylic. |

BUT if you use Nail polish for deep scratch, fill the scratch with nail paint leave it to dry and polish with rubbing compound. But try at your own risk
Added on May 21, 2007, 2:54 amRubbing compound can be bought from car paint dealer or car spray workshop, ask the boss see he give you or not. This post has been edited by N's: May 21 2007, 02:55 AM |

Sandpaper does not work, the top layer of the acrylic will get some mist effect. Can try but use the highest grade you can find.
Nail polish does not work cause of different density when light pass thru can see the crack at certain angles. Tamiya Rubbing compound...this one I don't know. I think if you want to tes I think can use microscope slides? I think its the same material. Thats the problem with acrylic casings, must put in safe environment. |

QUOTE(sniper on the roof @ May 21 2007, 01:53 PM) That costs a bomb. Last time I bought, it was like rm30 for a puny lil tube. Worst thing is nowadays kids dont play Tamiya no more n cant even buy it from local shops. Scale modelling in Malaysia is a lost art. |
