Depends how much you want to topup, max at 36 months. if you buy $1 ultimate then it will only convert existing subscription, even if you topup later it wont extend. best is get as much XBL gold you can then upgrade with $1 to get converted to ultimate!
You cant stack XBL gold from different country, if you have existing it needs to be the same region.
*
Topped up 2 years (from a key reseller RM205 for 12mths) - got 2 months free under UK gold because that was where my gold was - turns out it doesn't matter because gold codes are global now. Had a lot of trouble getting buying the $1 ultimate game pass conversion on the website. Got home and managed to pay the $1 conversion fee on my xbox in the US marketplace with the recurring fee in USD. So yeah it's kinda region free now as I have credit card details in both US and UK - and Malaysia windows marketplace..

I tried stacking SG XBL gold (existing 6-7 months) with US XBL gold (24 months) i get this error.

You currently have a subscription from a different region. If it still doesn't work, please contact customer support.
Change your Microsoft Store region You currently have a subscription from a different region. If it still doesn't work, please contact customer support.
PUR-ConversionBlockedCurrencyCountryMismatch

so i guess its because my sub has not ended hence i cant topup from different region?

Anyway i switch to SG on xbox region to claim the code so it stacks after then switch back to US.

I think it's because I bought a xboxlive code that specifically said global? These days I'm really out of touch with all the xboxlive geo unblocking stuff so I'm just glad I could get gamepass on the cheap for my kid.

DOOM ETERNAL is coming to GAMEPASS!

I was so tempted to buy when it was on sale for USD30 just a few weeks ago.. but i'm just time starved and stingier with my cash these dys.

I'm hoping that by the time EA Play comes to Gamepass Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order would be on the service..

I honestly can't remember the last game i bought since i got Gamepass. Maybe that's why the local game shops don't really support xbox since they can't benefit from the initial sale and subsequent trade-in and resale. At the 70USD price for AAA, the only way PS5 gamers can play everything is to keep trading in stuff. Makes no difference for me since these days i rarely have the time to play a game on Day 1.

Fallen Order should be available closer to the 1 year mark (of release date) - to be honest, EA should have Origin Access Premier for XBOX as well.

I guess the money that we save from physical games can be ploughed to the external NVME drive that they are selling $219 for  tongue.gif

The only problem with Game Pass is the duration of 3rd party publishers - you don't know when they will be removed. Only the ones owned by Microsoft and some partners will remain in Game Pass.
*
On Xbox we had EA Access which gives which was basically gamepass for EA games but that's been rebranded to EA Play which will be added to Gamepass (for free!)at the end of the year. I don't know anything about Origin Access Premier - is that like EA Access but with newer games?

For 3rd party they do give you a month's warning before a game leaves the service - that's usually more than enough time to finish up a game. For me, while i do enjoy the 1st party AAA titles the most joy i've had this year has been discovreing the smaller indie titles which I would never have bought.

Yeah same here, ever since having gamepass i didnt really buy any games, i dont have time to play game on day 1, just take my sweet time or when i have mood, then ill search gamepass games, many hidden jewel in there.

Many game shops stop selling xbox games (GH from Green to Blue), even a friend of mine who owns a local game shop only manage to sell 5 copies of gears 5, but im seeing the trend here. If there are 25% ps5 digital buyers it also means it will affect game shops too.
*
GOW5 day 1 on gamepass definitely did not help sales.

Anyway, I'm too lazy to get up to change discs. Currently I have 200+ games installed on my xbox - a mixture of Games with gold, purchased digital 360 & xone games and gamepass. It's seriously damn cool that I can just move my HDD to the new xbox when it arrives and play.

For retail, i guess that places like Gamers Hideout are still making decent money from the pre-owned games model but i think the days of retail are numbered. PC and xbox market is gone already leaving just Nintendo and PS5.

QUOTE(andrewtho @ Sep 25 2020, 01:28 PM)
Yeah, I had both, EA Access for XBOX and EA Access Premier for PC. Premier is where you get all the launch titles pre-launch, no need to wait unlike EA Access / EA Play.

Hmm perhaps I didnt noticed the warning - I wanted to continue Red Dead Redemption 2, then it ended  cry.gif
*
RDR2 is always on sale these days and the Rockstar Publisher sale is on now if i'm not mistaken. I actually bought RDR2 at launch - played for half an hour and never went back to it lol.

Try to avoid buying GPU that gives access to seller, unless your MS account is just for Xbox alone it doesnt matter if it gets banned. If you are under MS ecosystem you are basically giving him the access of everything, be caution.

Best way to buy GPU is through gift cards or codes, different region GPU subscription cannot be stack, they need to be expired first.

Tbh GPU is only $180 a year, roughly RM750 its about 3 new game cost? this is the max you will be paying
*
RM750 a year is crazy compared to how much it costs compared to stacking xbox live gold and converting.

Anyway, I just recently let my GPU pass lapse after 2 years+.

Turns out that it's not that easy. I bought 3 years worth of xbox live gold US codes thinking they would be the least hassle. Unfortunately my xbox region was still UK and US gold codes are not global (I seem to remember them being global the last time i bought codes to stack). I had to migrate to US region to redeem the codes even thought I had already been buying stuff on the US marketplace for ages. Once the migration had taken place, it still wouldn't let me redeem the XBL codes as there was a region mismatch. After online chatting with tech support they suggested waiting until the next day or 24hours for the migration to complete. I gatal gatal went and applied the codes a couple of hours later and they worked. Unfortunately when I tried to convert to GPU it didn't work as they said there was a region mismatch and the 3 years gold was denominated in GBP even though I had redeemed US gold codes. Waited the full 24 hours and it took another online chat with MS to sort that problem out and i finally upgraded my gold to GPU on the US marketplace.

Still jumping through the hassle and paying RM690+USD15 for 3 years instead of one year is well worth the hassle.

Additionally, even though i would have gotten a cheaper deal on shoppee with the link that was shared previously, i didn't really trust the seller as my MS account is a really old account with lots of details and services and i didn't trust their dispute resolution solution which involved giving my accounts details to them. I just went with a code seller (offgamers) which i have been using for years for that peace of mind.

NO! no more buy XBL Gold then convert for $1. huhuhuh
damn buy 2 years GP for Xbox still kenot get a whole year of GPU. time to reconsider is it worth paying that much for GPU  unsure.gif
*
Yeah like what Iccyasd says if you try to redeem 1 year gold code while subscribed to GPU it auto converts to 4 months GPU. So just let your GPU subscription end so you can go back to gold by redeeming xbox live gold codes without conversion. Stack 3 years gold by buying 3 years worth and then pay the upgrade fee of USD15. BOOM instant 3 years GPU for the price of 1 year GPU.

Have you tried contacting microsoft support - online chat to ask them to change the region? If they can't - just use it to buy a game.

I cannot get pass the required backup payment to upgrade to game pass. My cc not accepted, something about payment and store region not matching. How to proceed?
*
First you need to find what region your xbox live gold is tied to. You need to make sure that the gold region has a upgrade path to GPU.

You need to then tie in a credit card to that region. Use an address/post code from that country to get that credit card accepted.

My have a US account but problem is don't have credit card that can work for US region. No workaround for that?
*
I have gotten MBB and PB to work in the past. What you could try doing is contacting your CC provider and making sure that it is not the bank blocking the transaction.

What error are you getting when trying to register your credit card?

I'm getting the Change your Store region error:
The region in which your payment option was issued and your Store region need to match.

I already add the CC in Microsoft account earlier with US address. So I just select. Paypal also not accepted, maybe due to Malaysia based.
*
OK the problem is changing the store to US is not enough because your xbox live gold might be set to a different region. Contact Microsoft support online chat to migrate your account to the US if that is who you want to buy game pass from- with the problem that you are having trouble redeeming a code to avoid speaking to a bot.

edit: I'm guessing but I'm assuming you already stacked 3 years of xboxlive.

Yes. I already stacked 3 years Xbox live with US codes. Now trying to upgrade to GPU with 1 USD, I have 50 usd in the fund and it require a backup payment, which i can't get pass it. Using VPN to US when performing all these on PC. Is that because region on my PC store still US? I already change PC to US region
*
Your best bet is contacting MS Support. They know that you probably don't live where you're trying to buy GPU from and they can troubleshoot your account.

When i purchased GPU just last month i bought it through my xbox without a VPN with a CC connected to the US store after going through MS Support.

Had chat with Microsoft support, I have 36 months Live gold subscription, GPU add another month which not allowed by system. Need to wait 1 month. Any comments?

I don't think that's correct, you're not exactly buying one month but you're buying the upgrade from gold to GPU.

Contact Xbox support via chat again. Agent just deduct 1$ from my account and now I have 3 years of GPU subscription. 🥳

Glad it worked out for you. GPU is the best value in gaming at the moment - but the hoops that we have to go through to get every Malaysian user online is super annoying rclxub.gif

I'm thinking the best advice that can be given is "contact MS."

New GamePass Ultimate subscriber here, after getting my XSX yesterday.

All I can say I'm pleasantly impressed. So much value for money, so much in fact, "is this legal?" laugh.gif

GamePass Ultimate  have significantly droped my wishlisted games on Steam to only big releases and titles I'm getting to play on Steam Deck next year.

Subbed till April 2024. Wanted to go 36 mths but can't go beyond that for some reason.

Literally drowning in games. Not even tested the EA Play part yet, and then there's XCloud ohmy.gif . Gonna VPN closer today and see what I can get away with.

Good times. rclxms.gif

I think i know what happened there - you may have turned on auto-renewal by accident which gives you free 3 months (from what i can remember) and therefore didn't allow you to stack 36 months of gold. Don't forget to turn off auto renewal so that you can do the same trick in May 2024.

I always have the time these days, since I WFH, the seduction is to "quickly finish work" to immediately punch-card out into the "recreation area". laugh.gif But if dont work hard, no money for "recreation area". Thankfully, GPU is so much value, and major games are far and few in between release, that saves a lot! I'm just glad I'm not the target audience for games like Fortnite and "Games as a service" like Destiny and such. I play when I want to play, not forced to play when there's events or when peers pressure you to play. Or be pressured to buy silly cosmetic stuff. icon_rolleyes.gif
I believe you,  I'm already at 84% full on the 1TB SSD! sweat.gif

But the good thing about Game Pass Ultimate, I can remove my wishlisted games on Steam, since they are now part of GP. More money saved! Games like Sable and Microsoft Flight Simulator. Flight Simulator alone costs RM234 on Steam. moneyflies.gif And I can even try EA games without worrying if they're ........shit. Like Mass Effect Andromeda. Since they're part of game pass, just download. Only thing have to keep an eye out? Storage space.
*
I'm a bit of a hoarder - just buy an external HDD. I have an external 8tb hooked up to the xbox and transfer to internal when required. Also, you only need to keep series X/S games on internal - xbone games and other BC games can be played from external.
