The new Blackberry K2 has a modern design, it is lighter, slimmer, with the traditional keyboard but more user friendly and smarter. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor, it has doubled the memory size compared to the K1 model, but with the same extended battery life. Many more new features presented at the event justify the message from the company: “An Icon Reborn”. The k2 is available in June in the U.S. at 649$. Global availability in July.

What do you guys think?

a little bit overpriced for a sd660 phone

but i think for business user, this would be a good phone. just a slight upgrade from keyone, nothing too great.

Those on KEYone would not be a major difference in the upgrade... but it's definitely a good buy for those switching over or from BB10 OS...

Reminds me of my passport. Just hope it would be great if they can do away with the capacitive touch navigation keys, and merge the function with space bar.

My current motorola z2 play can do that, TCL should be able to.

I agree about the price. But what would be a good price for this SD660 in your opinion? Im currently using SD625, a xiaomi, it is only RM800. the SD660 is in the same middle-bracket chip as the SD 625 right? But it is 3x as expensive.

i would be okay for a 660 to be priced around 1.3-1.8. i guess they need a big profit margin since they are selling very little quantity compared to other smartphone brand.

If the prices were cheaper, they would probably able to sell more

A sub 2k price would be great. All I want is the physical keyboard on an android

This is definitely not the multimedia phone, hence one would have to carry a secondary phone I guess if one is into YouTube, gaming, camera, etc.
Battery life is good though

No I mean, the package itself may be limited. They may hold only 100 phones or so. Just a guess. But it is normal for promotions to have limited stocks, once it runs out you wont be able to buy that promotional package anymore.

Soyacincau said it is dual sim (the 2nd Sim would take up the micro sd slot). Anyway I assume it is the BB100-6 variant which is dual sim.

Have been reading reviews and it seems fine except the camera. I am fine with keyone's camera and all I wish is key2 will be comparable if not better... but have been getting mixed reviews (worse than keyone, according to gsmarena)....

I like silver, but black is just fine, more low profile. No one would find out that I've upgraded to key2. Looks so similar to my black keyone unless they look carefully

When my colleagues see a phone with keys they started asking about it.
There was once at the Frankfurt airport the security check official showed it to his colleague as well (my old passport...)

I also received the mail notification today. But I haven't received any notification from my company reception (I have it delivered to my work place).
That's very quick if they could reach me today, I mean I am in Kuching..

C'mon guys and gals, looking forward to your first impression.

Wah serious? I do feel miss Blackberry, cause of their solid built and of course the keyboard. This key2 definitely caught my attention. I just don't know if it's gonna be a waste of money later cause I'm kinda used to touchscreens. Also, I don't like people judging my choice.

Just let them judge any way they like.
They are missing the genuine experience of using a BB.. (Even if it is an android BB)

By they way, think mine has not arrived.
Definitely they need an additional day to get it to Kuching I supposed.

I also received the mail notification today. But I haven't received any notification from my company reception (I have it delivered to my work place).
That's very quick if they could reach me today, I mean I am in Kuching..

C'mon guys and gals, looking forward to your first impression.

I think either shoppe or the seller made a mistake. Gdex said my parcel delivery order is to pj, not Kuching. They ask me to check with seller now. Shoppe also said they can't do anything. In shoppe system they said address is correct which is kuching.

Really feel like want to cancel and refund now.

Update:
Clicked cancel, and minutes later received update that they are shipping using DHL now.
Calm myself down, and withdrew my cancellation request.

I find that the phone reception seems to be quite poor. Compare to my previous mate 9. In my house living room it only show 2 - 3 bars.

My fingers still not use to typing on this keyboard. So slow and still press the wrong button.

The scrolling seems to be not that responsive. Is it like what the ppl claim saying the textures on the keyboard affected it? Never had the keyone before so can't compare.

Received mine yesterday. Spent the night setting it up. Coming from KEYone it is indeed an improvement, except perhaps for the camera (subjective).

Could be a placebo effect, but find it better in terms of:
Keyboard (definitely better), capacitive scrolling (smoother), more features (could be oreo thing), rgb indicator which has a different behavior which I like it better, reception (both WiFi and network strength).

Equal:
Battery performance

Equal or a bit worse:
Camera?? Screen calibration, keyboard backlighting (a bit dim).

But overall a good upgrade for KEYone owner. If you have not used KEYone but is a keyboard lover, what are you waiting for? 😁

By the way a clear tpu casing came with it, so consider it a bonus. And the earphone is actually better too in my opinion.

Nice review from d keyone owner.
I love this phone a lot especially am d keyboard lover.
BTW I found using the clear case makes d phone a bit too bulky, hence using it naked

Free iflix

Got mine from shopee. One can only hope for 1-1 exchange. This is malaysia with weak consumer protection. If in the states/europe, no need for defect, not satisfied also can return.

Yeah, this is NOT RIM. Some Canadian company designed it, but manufacturing outsourced to China, but they don't make enough to achieve the right economy of scale, so price per unit is much more expensive than other models

Hi Guys. I just got my Key2 yesterday. I seem to have a problem assigning the keyboard shortcuts in the settings. Everytime I tried to add or assign an app to a key, the settings closes by itself. Tried restart couple of times already but doesn't work. This happens to both, long press and short press options. I can't seem to assign any app to the shortcut key. Anybody faced same issue?

Convenience key can be assigned and works fine.

I'm on Nova launcher and don't think it's the problem. The phone is updated to July 1, 2018 security patch and build number ABC369.
Hope someone here can help.

I am super interested in getting a Key2, but buying from the shops I can use CC and EPP it through balance transfer; not to mention the shops selling it sealed and new, and I can chase them if anything goes wrong. The offer for cash has to be significantly lower than the shops. Even the shops are selling them below RRP, if you hold it any longer you are just going to face losses. Hope you can lower the offer.

Ok bought already. they keyboard is SUPER DAMN good. My productivity would increase a few folds from using this. A premium given the specs, but the "hidden specs" that is the keyboard is worth RM1000!!

This is crazy.

Ive already got mine from shopee. One thing i noticed the 3 capacitive keys above the keyboard are not equally bright. The left side is contrastly bright compare to right. Is this an issue/defect?

Yes, like something is loosing under the space bar. It's not firm.

I bought the Key2 2 days ago, so far so good. Dislike the free case though. Feels bulky, will looking for thin case later.

Regret to inform you guys that... I have returned my purchase. I have a mild case of OCD, and I could not live with that see-saw feeling on the spacebar. The key is also not as firm as the other keys (which were perfect)

I feel bad about this. Much ado about nothing. Returned it for 3x MiA2 (give to family members and 1 for myself)

This see-saw or wobble effect has been greatly discussed in this BB forum. It is not uniform, which means that the problem is in the QC, i think. TO expected I guess, THC is NOT Blackberry OG

Was paying attention to this forum closely to really decide whether to get the phone or not. maybe i will get it if the prices go down to the 1600-1800 range. sad to hear about the space key wobble.

The phone itself was less responsive than my MiA2, despite using the same SOC (SD660) and having more RAM to work around with (vs my MiA2 4GB/64G). The capacitative touch-screen was not as responsive to my fingers as my Xiamis (A1 and A2) and the finger print reader was HORRIBLE - coming from Xiaomis' super-fast and accurate fingerprint sensors, Key2's FPS leaves lot to be desired, that it got annoying, not to mention it was integrated to the annoyingly wobbling spacebar

Even in this thread there were a few chaps who are trying to let go of their units, reasons include "not being satisfied" without going into details. I was lucky that I get to change it to other phones (of same or higher value)

I was so pumped up with the keypad as a whole, except for the space-bar. What a waste. Maybe next time, BB

Dont be. THC should have done better, I guess I expected too much from the OEM; will only buy from direct manufacturers now. I was lucky that I managed to change my purchase, others were not so lucky and had to try to sell the unit.

I was seriously eyeing for this device but due to the price for the spec and no telco that comes with it makes me decide for a full touchscreen phone.

I guess the keyboard is not the same as the 9900 is it. I remember the 9900 keyboard is so good and not really much clicking sound comes from typing on it. and it was soft too.

is it really a big deal or big issue with the sound of space bar? i tot it was normal, because the button of space quite big compare to others key, no surprise with the sound. what do you think?

It is good, but not as good as BB's best keyboards. Well like I mentioned, this is NOT BB, designed and manufactured by THC. Maybe they got some BB patents? but not the same. For all intents and purposes, this may be some Chinese phone from Chinese manufacturer, but overpriced due to licensing

Not a big deal for me, I dont mind the space bar wiggling. But it's firm though in KeyOne. So it must be QC problem.

Yes it should be normal for the spacebar as the rest of the button dun have finger print censor on it. Unless BlackBerry decide to place the finger print scanner elsewhere

after few day using, some comment:
camera: excellent quality when strong light environment (more nice than note 8), but terrible quality if low light environment (full of noisy)
battery: same apps and daily using, Note 8 1 day 2 charge, key2 2day 1 charge.
keyboard: after used to it, typing very fast
speed: very fast speed without any lag, even though it just SD660, but the speed is amazing.
charging speed: more less same like note 8
overall experience: still no regret and feel like professional businessman when use this phone

Time for keyone. I am a -1 guy now since blackberry never really price their phone right.

2.5k for a SD660 phone is also a huge let down, no matter what aspects you are looking at it.

Anyway its TCL not THC. No ideas why keep mentioning THC. Go figure.

I am so jealous of you guys being able to use the key 2 without any issues. Feels bad man. I have a mild case of OCD, so while many of you guys dont have issues with the space bar, I had issue with it. Or I got one with QC issues. Whatever it is, I will revisit this phone, perhaps a second hand model so I can try the space bar before purchasing - and at lower price points

Good thing with key2 is I do not need to bring powerbank even am travelling for whole day with sometimes GPS switch on for the usage of Grab.
End of day still left with 40% which is quite impressive

Actually, I dont quite get the "paying such price for a sd660" concept. This statement is like saying why buy bmw 2.0cc when you can pay less for a mazda 2.5cc.

Yes, a BlackBerry is not a bmw, but I am speaking about the core. Processor = Engine.

There are some merits to it, especially since BB is now also run on Android. So you can get just equally good Android using better processors

The comparison between BMW and Mazda is inaccurate. Making any comparisons such as that is simply doing you a disservice

BlackBerry and other makes uses android as its base. Comparing a petrol Bmw and mazda that runs on 4 tyres makes sense because now
the only concern here is processor speed. Hence, we are only speaking about engine displacement.

The scenario now is like RM2500 for a SD660? I could have gotten a SD8xx!"

Is like "RM200k for a 2.0cc? I could have gotten a 2.5cc"

Well even your Merz can run 320kmph. But how many of them truely run 320kmph?

Its mean the maximum power when running multitask.

Even i am using s9 plus now. But i still play the key2 every night. To see how it can beat my s9 plus. Finally. The statement... bb key2 wont the best in productivity. Really fast. Typing and shortcut.

Speaker is louder than s9 plus.
Speed both i dont see different.
Power efficient... k2 is better.
Weight... k2 win
Entertaintment.. s9 plus win..
Movie... my pc win

I think it really points down to how you use your phone. Key2 is never intended to be an entertainment device. If browsing facebook and watching youtube are your main purpose of using the phone, Key2 will not be able to satisfy the user. smile.gif

Am sending my keyone for warranty (hope it goes through well), turns out that its a place called "Hello Service Centre".

In any case, from what I got from a quick chat, turns out Malaysian set has a spesific code.

If you're buying your KeyTWO, do make sure its the intended Malaysian set, and about firmware, just wait for it properly. Don't be afraid about the firmware release being slow etc, especially since the phone now has proper Oreo with Treble in it.

Basically a work phone with spec and setup to play some light games.  I have an iPad and Laptop for others purpose.
Yesterday was on mobile hotspot for almost 4 hours.  Key2 still managed to finish my day with 30%.

Not sure. It was in the car, then boot looped after saying "taking steps to cool down".

I used an autoloader, but it lags like shit (switching apps takes forever, typing lags like 5-10 seconds), and camera and torch refuses to work.

I'm in the process of sending for RMA.

Maybe can wait for Key 2 LE. Seems to be an affordable version of Key2 with good performance on Oreo.

BlackBerry, still the best signal, and the only one that really does different designs. True, people asks me about the phone. "They still make those?" Everybody will tell you that they loved their Blackberry but they changed due to the lack of apps.

People still does not now that they run Android.

Unfortunately, BB is a very niche brand now.

The other day when i was paying via Fave, the Fave sales lady was trying to assist to key in promo code and she was puzzled on how to type on my Key2. laugh.gif

Key2LE is basically a "dumbed down" version of the Key2.

Its basically an upgraded KeyONE with dual camera and no-trackpad keypad.

Key2 has everything above, hence the price difference.

But not sure what's the price difference really (didn't survey the market)

Alright. Getting my Key2 (used unit).

Once it arrives, I will update some sections on this board. Looks like it really needs some serious makeover on certain segments.

The one pet peeve I have with Youtuber reviewers is that they often do a touch and go review, but never go in depth as to point out how to play to the strength of the phones. Everyone goes instead "by my benchmark, bla bla bla" and the reviews thrash BlackBerry KeyTWO without looking at where and what it does really good and how to be really adaptive to it in life.

You won't believe it, but China. A friend of a friend of a friend.

If you got Chinese friends in China, they can probably help.

I paid RM1.5k, for 128GB version of black Key2.

BTW, iPhone may be better than BlackBerry key2, so please do approach the Key2 with huge grain of salt.

I'm a user of the keyONE, who went back to Android slabs, and feel that the Key2 suits me better (and if I need anything extra, i'll get a phone for that, but since my keyONE is busted, getting a key2 makes sense).

The battery life is still mind blowing. Going full blast of >10 hrs with 3.5 hours of screen usage, averagely.

Other than that, productivity at its typical best with droid flavor.

I am at my ninth month anyway.
