My gf recently bought me an ellesse chronograph watches from city chain which costed her about RM700 after discount. The promoter in citychain claimed that this watch has a better quality than fossil watches and it's from italy. However, i found very little info online about this watches. Yes, ellesse is an italian brand but their main site dont show any watches.

So my question is, this brand legit ke? does anybody owns one? how was it? i want to know more about this brand.

thank you and have a nice day ahead guys!

Clothing brand timepiece depends. Similar to Fossil these brand belongs to fashion branding. Fashion brand they do not do the movement themselves, some even let the other manufacturer to produce the watch and put down their logo. Unlike Casio, Seiko, Orient, Tag or Tissot who are timepiece manufacturer. Some of the Ellesse higher end model use Ronda movement which is good but i think mostly using japan movement but i doubt if they are using China movement.

The brand is legit and the jay chou is one of their brand ambassador.

Back in 90's this brand was made by Stelux, they share the same tech as universal Geneve. But in in 20++ it was taken over by unknown entity. Remember seeing their offers at $80 (using miyota movement)at times during some sales here in Singapore circa 2010-2012. Rarely see it around nowadays.

But ultimately, for 700 bucks, there are definitely better choices out there

Compressed history:

Hong Kong fella went to Thailand in the 60's (if recalled) and founded Thong Sia.... distributes Seiko in SEA.

When he balik HK, he founded Stelux which makes components the watch industry including the Swiss.

Manufacturers in bottom of supply chain very kesian wan... kena squeeze everyday... so he went upstream. Started Citychain.

With channel in place, the obvious next step will be to populate the stores with own products instead... so they start sourcing watches from across Lowu and used license brands like Ellesse for them. For the higher price range, cast resurrection spell on long dead Swiss brands like Cyma, Solvil et titus, Universal Geneve.

Some years ago, Stellux bought Thong sia group .
