I really wanna watch The Miracles of Namiya General Store, because the thematic is something that is bizarre yet intriguing for me at that time, but sadly it didn't get allocated in my nearest cinema branch(mmCineplex) sigh
i know the tidbits of story based on the trailers in youtube and after reading short snippets of it in wikipedia, but if you don't mind, can you spoil the ending/climax part for me? i'm dying to know because i don't read the novel so yeah i only know what's it about on surface, but i don't know what happens to the characters communicating within the different timeline..
Can't stream the movie or download it...? i know the tidbits of story based on the trailers in youtube and after reading short snippets of it in wikipedia, but if you don't mind, can you spoil the ending/climax part for me? i'm dying to know because i don't read the novel so yeah i only know what's it about on surface, but i don't know what happens to the characters communicating within the different timeline..
If you're sure about it then I'll give you the full compact version

Back in the 1980s when Namiya-san had been replying letters for advice, one day, he fell sick. Hospitalised, Namiya-san had contracted cancer and left with 2 months to live. As Namiya-san stayed in the hospital, he missed the days when he was replying to letter. He woke up one day and begged his son, Takayuki, to let him home for the night, saying he had a dream (which he believe is reality) whereby he saw letters kept pouring into his mailbox from people who wanted to thank him for his advice 32 years later. Seeing how desperate his father is, Takayuki drove his dad home, while he stayed in the car to wait for his dad. Namiya-san gave him a letter before he got off the car.
Upon returning home, Namiya-san was welcomed by a beautiful young lady. From their conversation, it was later revealed that she's the young lady of a wealthy family whom Namiya-san served back in his youth. They fell in love and eloped, but halfway, Namiya-san felt that a lowly servant do not deserve her. He returned with the young lady and moved away. Namiya-san spoke about his family and son to her. Takayuki who dropped by the house briefly to check upon his dad, cried when he saw his father speaking to himself. He went back to his car in despair.
Takayuki opened the letter Namiya-san gave him. It instructed him to do one thing:
"32 years later, put up a post requesting the people I have adviced, to write to me. Let me know whether my advice were right or wrong, and if it helped them, how did it affect their lives. "
Soon, Namiya san heard a sound and he walked towards the front door. He saw several letters slip in. At first thinking it's his son's prank, he soon believed his "dream". Letters continue to pour in and Namiya-san had tears in his eyes. Yes, those are the letters from year 2012, 32 years later.
Next morning, Namiya-san walked out of his house holding all the letters. His son opened the car door and helped his father, asking what are those. Namiya-san merely replied, "Letters for me 32 years later." They drove off.
Coming back to 2012, the 3 orphaned teenagers, Atsuya, Shota and Kohei, remained in the Namiya General Store. They were seeking refuge in the house, afraid of being chased by police. As they were lounging around, one of them heard a sound. They checked the front door and noticed a letter slipped in. They decided to open the letter and read it.
Written by Mr Fish Stall, it was a troubled singer-wannabe who had to return to town upon his grandfather's death. The singer, Yoshikazu, left town 4 years ago to try to make his dream come true, but unfortunately nothing materializes. He is torn between staying home to help his father's struggling fish stall (and also due to his father's declining health) or leave town again. As the opening of the letter mentioned "yesterday was the death of John Lennon", after several discussion, the boys believed the letter could be from the past. One of the boys decided to write back, with Atsuya taking the lead and wrote something hurtful such as coming to his senses and do a reality check. After several exchanges (of letter), Yoshikazu wanted Namiya-san to listen to his music (not knowing his letter arrived in 2012).
One night, the singer wannabe stood in front of Namiya-san's store and played his Harmonica. The music filled the night and the boys heard it. Atsuya and Shota rushed outside the store, but sees no one and hears nothing. When they ran back into the store, they could hear the Harmonica again. Strange and fascinated, they realized the music (composed by the singer himself) is the same one as sung by a popular Singer, Seri. One of them said, "If he wrote this song, then he must be the one who saved Seri." With that, in their last letter, they encouraged the singer to continue pursuing his dream, the very same thing Yoshikazu's father told him to do.
4 years down the road, we see Yoshikazu arriving in an orphanage and was hired to perform for them. Still a small-time singer, he continues to chase after his dream. He then performs his own composed song and Seri, one of the child (around 12?) in the orphanage loved it. She spoke to Yoshikazu as he had to stay the night there, due to a breakdown which paralyzes the train service. That night itself, a fire broke out in the orphanage. Woken by one of the staff, Yoshikazu was told that Seri's brother is stuck upstairs but it's too dangerous for anyone to go. Fearing the worst, Yoshikazu made his way and saved Seri's brother. However, he perished in the fire.
Coming back to 2012, we see a grown up Seri on the stage, thanking Yoshikazu who saved her brother and that she wrote the lyrics to his song. As she sang, the screen zoomed out to Atsuya, Shota and Kohei watching Seri's performance through a mobile phone. While Shota/ Kohei felt guilty over the Yoshikazu's 'death', Atsuya said, "There was nothing we could have done. Even if we warned him about the fire, he wouldn't have believed!" Shota disagree and said they could at least warn him about a fire.
The matter erupted into an argument and in the midst of it, they hear another sound of an incoming letter. One of them picked it up and read. It was written by a lady who called herself "Lost Puppy". Tamura is a clerk in a bank by day, and a hostess in a bar by night. One of her client asked her to be his mistress and if she do, he will give her some capital to start her own business. She needed the money to repay the kindness of her foster parents.
One of the boys decided to write back, with Atsuya taking over the letter afterwards. He accuses Tamura of being materialistic. After some contemplation, Tamura wrote back and expressed her disappointment in Namiya-san's reply. However she further explained that her parents died young and she was in the orphanage before this kind couple took her in. They gave her a home and treated her well. Now that her father is bed ridden, all responsibility falls on her mum to take care of him while having to pay for the house debt.
The 3 boys got into another argument over helping Tamura, with Atsuya going against it at first. However, he later wrote to her. He said he can help her, as long as she follows his advice. First of all, he asked her not accept the client's offer. She is to study IT and business while saving for a small apartment in midtown Tokyo. He adviced her to sell off her apartment afterwards and repeat the process. That will give her capital to start her own business. Atsuya also told her about the 90s stock market crash, and for her to liquidate some of her assets. He mentioned this will be his last letter to her.
Although puzzled, Tamura followed his advice. And true enough, she flourished. In 2012, she is a successful businesswoman. Coming from an orphanage herself, she occasionally goes back to donate and meet with the staffs. And yes, you guessed it - the very same orphanage that Atsuya, Shota and Kohei comes from. All 3 of them went back to the orphanage and heard a rumor (from a friend there) who said the orphanage is losing money and going out of business soon. A lady will buy the house and land, then turn it into a love motel.
Angered by the rumor, the boys tracked the lady and waited for her at her home. They tied her to a chair in her home. Although she said it's not true, and that she would never do something so awful, they did not believe her. The boys took her handbag and went back to Namiya-san's store. As the boys settle down, they start to quietly question their action. Another fight erupted and then Atsuya realized something. He took a blank paper and ran outside the store. Shota and Kohei remained inside the store, waiting by the front door. Atsuya slipped the blank paper into the letter hole then ran back into the store. Both the boys said nothing appears, although in truth, the blank paper should have slid out. Atsuya realized there's some sort of "magic" that holds this store. They Googled about it and read an article about Namiya-san. The same day today is the 32 years later where Namiya-san asked the public to write to him on how his adviced turn out. Shocked, one of them opened the handbag of the lady they attacked and found a license and letter inside. The letter was addressed to Namiya-san and said she is "Lost Puppy" whom he helped 32 years ago. They read her letter and realized she was the one who wrote to the store.
Shota and Kohei dashed out with her letter and bag. They wanted to release her and explain what happened. Atsuya refused to leave and remained in the store. As he slowly walk out of the store, Atsuya went to the store's milkbox (all Namiya-san's personal reply goes to the milkbox) and found a letter inside. It was written by Namiya-san on Atsuya's blank paper. Namiya-san said "To you who sent me a blank paper, this is definitely the most difficult advice I had to write. When I think about it, this blank piece of paper may have represented your state of mind and your uncertainty. Know that you are a blank canvass and what you paint on it, will be your future. etc" It was an encouraging message and it touched Atsuya's heart. He ran after his friends towards Tamura's house.
When they arrived - from the distance - they saw polices surrounding the place and Tamura standing at the sidewalk. The film ends as the 3 boys walk towards her and she looked up to see them coming.
In the post-credit, we see all 3 boys turned over a new leaf. Atsuya became a physiotherapist, Shota became a sushi chef while Kohei worked with air crafts (not pilot, probably the mechanic).
