For those asking for a more reputable review (isk mine not reputable meh) of the GK5CN Chassis, here's Notebookcheck's review on the XMG Neo 15 (which is pretty much the Onyx with a slightly different keyboard cap and surface finishing): http://bit.ly/2NcKBJy

Well, finally anyway.

Spoiler: Their findings pretty much mirror those in my review TBH, albeit with a lot more in depth details.

If they sell the keycaps seperately I want a set for sure. The convex keys are soooo smexy (and looks practical for touch typing).

And yeah, my Onyx is averaging 3 hours under light-normal loads now, and zero other problems.

But then again, I'm normally on my spare 180w adapters so that might just be it.

Yeah am also interested in those caps. Hopefully we can get them separately.

Btw, may I know which OEM charger's fit the ONYX? Looking to pick up a 180W charging brick too.
*
Asus/MSI/Clevo tipped bricks seem to fit and work well, to be specific ones with 5.5*2.5 mm barrel connectors.

Myself I have been using 1 Asus ADP-180MB F and 2 Lite-On ADP-180MB K (which I suspect might just be the same bloody Delta thing inside, which isn't too bad as Delta make pretty good PSUs) with zero issues so far. And yes, I kid you not when I once said I had a small army of the things lol.

Also Clevo specced Chicony 180w adapters should work too, but are usually pricey for some unknown reason (compared to the Deltas). Similarly Razer units, which are even more expensive.

HI bro, Can share where to buy these adaptor?
*
Got my army from the great bay of e. Should average to below RM200 each for non-Chicony models (stick to Lite-On, Delta and Asus for best results).

Also, most of the Innolux/Chi Mei 60hz screens do that "occasionally" on low brightness, apparently turning off "auto-brightness" (or adaptive, it's somewhere in power options) makes it happen less for some unknown reason.

Mine only does that once in a long while now, even at 25%.

That said, I also suspect sample variance has something to do with how "often" it does the whole low-brightness backlight dance thing so there's also that.

whats the response time in the 144hz display?

Check the Notebookcheck review on the XMG Neo 15. That one has the 144hz panel on.

both same model?
*
The Onyx AND the Neo 15 are both TongFang GK5CNs with a few cosmetic differences, so yeah, all points apply unless Illegear went with the AUO 144hz panel instead of the LG (which is improbable unless TF runs out of LG stocks).

On a related note hpefully Illegear does bring those smexy XMG chiclet style keycaps around soon as well as an option in the future as XMG themselves aren't willing to share (yeah I've asked).

How long the battery can last for the spec out 6 core and 1060 with 16gb ram?
*
On an average, 4 hours plus of surfing/downloading/casual use. Depends on how heavy your casual use case is though.

any 1 knows hot to fast reboot? tried googling but dint find for tongfang or illegear fast reboot... actually ive only done it once on my last laptop msi gt72
@eiraku need help on fast boot uhhh my desktop loads in 7 secs by using only one pm961...but with this lapppy using 2 pm961 on raid zero it is seriously slow, im suspecting the bios is making my boot slow.
*
Maybe it's RAID? BTW raid stripe can be fast but I've heard that it's not the safest way to work with RAID TBH. If not that, it might be your Windows install?

I haven't had any issues running twin PM951s so far. Even when it's slower than what you have, boot is about 5-6 secs every time.

anyway this is weird omg.. i dont know how to provide you infos,

1. From second i press switch pon button (the pc is shut down) it is around 13.xx seconds...
2. Windows home on the raid zero.
3. mmm 8 gb ram?
is there any settings i need to touch on the bios, at the boot tab and disable a few options?
*
Hmmm. And single SSD of the same exact config isn't as slow? Weird TBH, maybe you should liaise with Illegear to check if something's wrong.

Eiraku, Can you have a software inside your lappy to record the boot time? and i will download the same one and test it on mine please Thank you
*
Unfortunately I'm a bit outstation at the time and I've kept my Onyx at home (running around with my GPD Win 2 instead) so I can only get back with that info later.

Sorry Bro.

Well performance of the two models may be similar but the main draw of the Onyx is that it is more sleeker and portable (lighter, smaller, thinner) and has thinner bezels.

If considering only Illegear laptops, if just looking for more bang for your buck I would say the Raven Elite (or Laguna) may be right for you but if you value a aesthetics in a laptop with comparable performance at a slight premium you may find the Onyx a better choice.
*
Laguna especially TBH. It might not have the best battery life but hey, full fat 1070. And not that the Onyx is any champion in terms of battery life either, though it does outlive the Laguna by a bit.

But looks, dang it's hard to beat that minimal bazel screen really.

WOAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH omg this is money burning.. its nicer to eyes..

but yeah.. Eiraku since ure one of the dino and experienced guy/lady here, i wanna suggest something nice for us.
Could you please please please make a group buy for custom skin for all of us?

full body skin, leather sticker maybe? black? or RED? haha... and for the trackpad too, since it is quite annoying when ur finger is wet.. just suggesting since ure the best person to do it because ure in every forum even in tongfang forum.. hihi.. or maybe PRINCE J wanna help about this? i really need this skin omg...

and and and.. under this screen of our onyx looks too empty.. need a Metal sticker "illegear" for that part =D can adjust a Prince J?
*
Err unfortunately I already skinned mine DIY lol. Translucent CF skin, so I can still enjoice the Illegear logo at the back. But yeah, the option for skins out of the factory would be pretty nice TBH.

And if Illegear is afraid of it add to the workload of its staff, just sell for user installation lor?

Dont add your worl load @illegear.. we can do it our self.. hihi.. just provide a video.. and i think it would be awesome.. since we all love our lappy so much.,. !!! pretty pleasee... before i scratch my lappy... pleaseeee hahahahhahhaha group buy should be nice... if a factory can do it for us? if min buy 100 i think we could easily get 100..
*
Lol no videos as I didn't do it that well lol and got a few bubbles edi. It's not that hard TBH. Just buy enough vinyl skin, measure and cut lor. Then apply heat (hairdryer on low) to smooth out the edges.

But yeah, using normal opaque skins are immeasurably easier then doing transparent / translucent skins as you don't have to worry about any bubbles appearing.

As for factories making precut skins, hmm, I'm not sure. I can ask around but no promises as notebook skinning isn't as profitable as mobile phone skinning these days (plus our units are pretty niche unfortunately), so it's normally a hard sell for companies.

You can also try asking MojoSkin OU and Mobile Outfitters if they'd do the thing, but be warned that it won't be cheap if you go this route.

We need a demo video of the new switches PRONTO!

But yeah, it it really is silent, that sound like a nice upgrade TBH, though you should consider cutting us early adopters a little upgrade discount because we didn't have a choice back then lol... brows.gif

Another question, does this laptop work with the Opolar Laptop Fan?

Not sure if the vents can fit the Opolar TBH. Personally using Coolermaster coolers and no issues thus far.

Are the vents too wide?
What coolermaster cooler are you using?
*
I have the X-Lite 2, X-Slim, A200 and the Notepal U2 (with no fans as they broke lol). The A200 is the best of the three as far as airflow is considered, but the X-Lite is a bit better sizewise.

Is there a noticeable decrease in temperatures by using these coolers?
I'm currently only using bottle caps tongue.gif
*
I'd say a 5c-ish drop in most situations? Maybe even closer to 10c if I get lucky lol.

But of course, don't expect anything drastic lol, you can only force THAT much extra air through the device no matter how you try... and the heatsinks can only displace so much heat.
