QUOTE(nyunyu @ May 22 2018, 11:44 PM) Guys, how minimal are the screen bleeding on your Onyx? Just want to gauge if mine within the norm. I only have a bit of bleeding on the the bottom left near the hinge, and the typical glow throughout. Care to share some picture? Then again, I was pretty specific about bleed when I ordered my unit so it might just be that. This post has been edited by Eiraku: May 23 2018, 01:09 PM |

QUOTE(nyunyu @ May 25 2018, 03:44 AM) I would also like to mention that Gaming Center software makes my games crashed. To run a game, I need to shut it down completely. Try FC5, same case lol. Unfortunately, CC/GC is a software that hooks into system API calls (which it needs to do so that it can do its job), and most Anti Cheat software backends hate that. Hence, "Game Security Violation". To be fair, these Anti Cheat backends do the same thing with all similar "system management" software like MSI Dragon Center and the like, until the software gets added to the Anti-Cheat software's database of "allowed" programs. So you actually need to buzz Epic to tell them that their Anti Cheat backend is spazzing out on your system management software. As for the "bruising", the panel does that sometimes while on the lowest brightness setting (it actually goes so low that the backlights themselves show up like that). Try increasing your minimum brightness/brightness on battery by a little bit in Power Plan, or if you want a quick fix, push the brightness up a bit manually, and then back down. The not so bright Enter in "User" mode? Man, yours are actually brighter then mine is lol. Mine nearly seems off, and this has been a long standing bug with the "User" mode TBH. I have no idea why it happens either as the LED is fine for that particular key in the other modes. And yes, seems the Music KBB light setting is just that sad lol. Mine does the same thing too. Oooh nice, will paste that on FP later. Thanks AZIM@ILLEGEAR
EDIT: The new Command Center FINALLY fixed the Return/Enter dimness in User Mode, awesome! nyunyu I DIY-ed mine with translucent CF, palmrests and lid. You can catch a glimpse of it in my Big/Little Beast photo a few pages back (Page 6 I think). It looks like black CF but the logo shows through (on the lid). Also, fully transparent vinyl is pretty hard to get right unfortunately. Unless you're really careful, the adhesive streaks and bubbles very, very easily. QUOTE(nyunyu @ May 27 2018, 03:44 PM) Okay, I installed the new command center, monocolor (white) still not in the option? I thought it was being planned? Yeah, I think it's slightly dimmer too, but that's a good change for me personally.Don't know if it just me, but I think the updated cc also makes brightness dimmer at lvl 1. No white here too though. Maybe next update. Also, Prince J, the lightbar switch on the first page of the new CC isn't working. It's not keeping the setting though boot. You need to go into the lighting section specifically and turn the bar off there. Just FYI. This post has been edited by Eiraku: May 28 2018, 09:04 AM |

QUOTE(nyunyu @ Jun 1 2018, 03:46 AM) Played with the Onyx color profile today, not sure if it just me or the Onyx color profile really makes the screen yellowish? Are those the profile that has been calibrated (as per order)? I'm using the Aero profile myself TBH, after I lost my own customised ICC after a reset. But be sure you're using the Aero 15X V7 profile - the V8 is using a different, 144hz screen.Default windows profile are very bright. So, went ahead and use Aero15x profile (from notebookcheck) and it seems acceptable. Anyone experience the same? |

QUOTE(MrHueHueHue @ Jun 1 2018, 11:47 AM) luckily i read those review and comment .. Well I'm not having any shutdown issues after hours of Fallout 4 and FC5 (amongst other games) so you can't say that every unit has the same issues.i plan to buy but once i read this kind of thing , its dropped my attention to town. thanks ! That said, I would personally say you'll be better off waiting for the new BIOS/EC to be released if you're still interested in the Onyx, as it seems to fix a lot of issues present in the initial release. Also, dat keyboard is pretty much an acquired taste as well, especially if you like your typing to be quiet. This post has been edited by Eiraku: Jun 2 2018, 06:30 AM |

QUOTE(liam111 @ Jun 2 2018, 10:38 PM) New Onyx owner reporting in, my specs: It's on the left side below the keyboard. There's another option for the light bar. i7-8750H Nvidia Gtx1060 512GB Samsung 512GB SSD 16gb Does anyone how to change the Led light below the keyboard? I can't find it in the command center. I also do not have any shutdown issue, is my bios the latest one? I collected the laptop 2 days ago. |

QUOTE(Snappy_Darko @ Jun 3 2018, 06:19 PM) If the screen is the 'X-Rite i1Pro 2', notebookcheck have reviewed this panel here - https://www.notebookcheck.net/Gigabyte-Aero...w.215364.0.html . They have measured Adobe RGB at 60% and SRGB 92% ... only fair to get the stats right if you're considering it to support useage that requires professional print-based colour accuracy. Thought tbh, to get 100% Adobe RGB at this pricepoint would be miraculous. The Xrite is actually the calibration device... Screen is actually an AUO panel. |

QUOTE(azwn @ Jun 4 2018, 09:49 PM) Can someone explain what is the function of colour calibration? Instead of change the display to warm and yellowish-like colour mode? I expect this calibration will improve the colour accuracy on the display especially for photo editing purpose. Actually warm IS colour accurate. For printing / photo editing anyway. The "white" white you're probably used to is actually "too blue", though you might have not noticed unless you've sent your photos to be printed by a proper photo printing shop. That said, your "white point" shouldn't be approaching orange overall. By that point it's probably too warm already, but very light beige-warm white IS actual white. azwn Check out Notebookcheck's review on the Coffee-Lake Asus GM501. I think Illegear is gonna use those 144hz panels for the Onyx upgrade so the specs on the GM501 tests apply. Compare those specs to the Aero 15/15x V7 (Kaby Lake) panel (which is also reviewed on NBC last year) which is used on the 60hz Onyx. This post has been edited by Eiraku: Jun 5 2018, 02:05 AM |

QUOTE(inv9s9ble @ Jun 6 2018, 11:32 AM) All of a sudden my touch pad won't work on my ONYX. I used an external mouse and it worked. Touchpad not recognized in Device Manager, reinstalled synaptics the problem still there. Any way to fix it? ;( Try re-installing "Intel Serial IO" drivers from the driver package linked on top of this page. |

QUOTE(Prince J @ Jun 7 2018, 01:35 AM) A few users might experience random shutdown which is caused by insufficient power input, it can be resolved by updating v3 EC and BIOS. My colleague Steve and Kelvin will post the instructions and files here in a few days. Oooh that sounds killer. Was just about to ask you re: the battery. Besides, we are re-working big battery project on ONYX GTX1060 and it will become available end of August, I will share more info about that. As for the random shutdowns, does using a bigger PSU help then? |

QUOTE(Prince J @ Jun 7 2018, 11:30 AM) Conversely, does that mean the upcoming BIOS update will actually cap performance to 150w levels EVEN if I have a 180w adapter then? Or does it actually come with adjustable limits in BIOS as per the latest China update? This post has been edited by Eiraku: Jun 7 2018, 02:31 PM |

QUOTE(mdduan @ Jun 7 2018, 04:07 PM) receive my onyx today.. experiencing random shutdown when playing game.. the power just cut off. No it didn't, it came with the standard 150w adapter unfortunately. maybe 150W adapter cant support gtx1060 at full load. does your onyx come with 180W adapter? That said, I do have a compatible (MSI/Asus head) 180w spare lying around, so I was wondering. This post has been edited by Eiraku: Jun 7 2018, 06:02 PM |

QUOTE(Prince J @ Jun 7 2018, 10:03 PM) There is a China LOEM using the same BIOS as our 3rd edition, I am not sure if it's the one you are referring to. Nah referring to the TongFang retail channel BIOS (Z2).The 3rd bios doesn't cap the performance if I am not mistaken, is only improves the voltage compatibility of the adapter. It also resolves a few bugs like RAID-0 bug. Thanks for the clarification though and do keep us updated on that juicy, juice extended battery as more news develops. QUOTE(Prince J @ Jun 8 2018, 12:15 PM) I am not sure if its the same as z2 bios. TF boss told me it's the same bios they provided to Haier, it should resolve the voltage issue. Our technician head also verified the Raid 0 bug issue has been resolved with the new bios. Well it sounds like should be the same IMHO. Thanks! The current bios fixes almost all the bugs reported earlier. This post has been edited by Eiraku: Jun 8 2018, 07:46 PM |

QUOTE(mdduan @ Jun 9 2018, 05:53 AM) after bios update, my laptop already crashed 2 times. Wait, which BIOS update? STEVE@ILLEGEAR actually pulled the updates off this thread (check back a page) for some reason. first crashed happened when the laptop is running in battery saver mode and I left it running transferring file from network. second crashed when I left it downloading games from steam in AC power. not much info when checking event viewer log. only got this critical msg: The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly. And got many DistributedCOM error: The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID {D63B10C5-BB46-4990-A94F-E40B9D520160} and APPID {9CA88EE3-ACB7-47C8-AFC4-AB702511C276} to the user NT AUTHORITY\LOCAL SERVICE SID (S-1-5-19) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC) running in the application container Unavailable SID (Unavailable). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool. any of you guys got this DistributedCOM error? what can I do to fix this? Check back with Illegear? Maybe there are issues with the update itself thus it was pulled? |

QUOTE(PotatoDato @ Jul 4 2018, 06:05 PM) I don't know if it's a good time to ask this after seeing all the reviews I actually have no BSOD issues nor bleed that is objectively "bad", but yeah more or less its a lottery - same as it is with any other brand. Is it still recommended to purchase Onyx? I really like the design as well as the specs, but the bsod and screen leaking problem kept persisting in this laptop (as seen in this thread) TBH, the only real probable "deal-breaker" with the Onyx is the keyboard, as its pretty subjective. For me, I hate that it sometimes double-registers when I don't give it a firm punch, but otherwise I'm okay with it - sound and all. |
