Hi guys.
Owner of a "hand-me-down" 2015 Proton Iriz. Actually, bought it off from my father and brother for very cheap. However, I'm now on damage control. The car was not in the best of care. There are 3 main issues with it, but the biggest one would have to be the CVT. I want to know if any of you have ever had it replaced or overhauled.
When I first got it the car was only at around 96,000km. However, as soon as I drove it I knew something was off. I've driven it before years ago and I don't remember it being this clunky. Even the clutch damper was shuddering. It even malfunctioned, 3 times. The gear icon appeared and the CVT wasn't engaging. It turns out that the CVT fluid had never been replaced at 60,000km. It was being driven 36,000km past due. I went to replace the CVT fluid and the metal dust that came out was plenty and coarse. I'm thinking of overhauling just to see what the pulleys look like after seeing that. After the fluid replacement and adaptation, it drove like it did before but that didn't last very long.
I was quoted RM5500 at JV Autolube in Shah Alam for an overhaul. Any other places to recommend that may be better, or that may have properly reconditioned Iriz CVT for complete replacement?

QUOTE(ayamxxx @ Jul 31 2023, 01:46 PM) around that mileage, be it a CVT gb, it is almost common to have a CVT issue, a belt burst inside. my family member's previous-gen HRV, from new to 80k km under SC for 5 years, then 80k - 120k km service outside honda specialist cz warranty already finished, change the CVT oil every 20k km, at 122k km, it had CVT belt burst inside. Spend RM4k+ for repair or replacing the belts. It just the CVT worn last long or reliable when heading at high mileage. That's why I totally against the CVT gb if in my case will let the car run more due to working outstation and frequent road trip holidays. RM4k+ for HR-V? Just the belt? Quite good that. The 2 other issue the car has is overheating. My brother have replaced the radiator once during the warranty. That was about 4 years ago. Since then the radiator has never been flushed (which was only known to me since I got the car). Did a radiator flush and clean in March...still overheats at highway speeds. So the car since then has never reached 100 km/h. Not with the aircond at least...which also has a problem of its own. Like I said, I'm on damage control. I'll be selling this car at a loss, maybe next year once all issues are fixed.

QUOTE(ayamxxx @ Jul 31 2023, 04:40 PM) yes the belts and installation plus Cvt oils and stuff. There are shop quoted for rm6k, especially the famous one in FB/ Tiktok. If u repair, please demand for 1 year warranty. I believe it might due to water pump already not running properly The water pump has been replaced when I replaced the timing belt.

QUOTE(ayamxxx @ Aug 4 2023, 05:00 PM) From Iriz fb group it is a well known issues for overhead problem. Need to change all sets of radiator and accessories I will double check the condition of the coolant first. If it's clean then rust might not be a problem. I will also confirm that there's no air in it. It's not leaking as far as I can see. Since the last flush I've done over 2000km and coolant is still up to level when I open the cap and the reservoir isn't empty. Fan is running so it's not that either, and there's no problem in traffic with the aircond on even on a hot day. If everything else checks out it may be the thermostat. If that also fails, then I might just have to squeeze in as big of a radiator as I can fit in it. But that could indicate an engine problem. QUOTE(ayamxxx @ Aug 6 2023, 08:48 AM) From my read, plenty of sc and workshop who are not honest putting tap water which make it rust inside. Hence overheat. Not sure if it is correct I watched them do the flushing. Everything was good. By the way, does anyone have any idea what size the front underbelly cover screws are or where I can get them? Both are now missing. It's not necessary but it sticks out about 1.5 inches lower than the intended design. That is quite a lot, and Iriz's underbelly is purposefully designed aerodynamically. In fact you will find every aero pieces on the Iriz is functional, right down to the slits at the rear spoiler. This post has been edited by VagueConcerns: Aug 6 2023, 05:50 PM

BTW, any recommended tint shop around Puchong or Shah Alam area? A shop that has great workmanship and selling genuine reputable brands like V-Kool, Raytech, LLumar, etc. I can't stand the "biting" of the sun. And the tan line on my right arm is like night and day
