Legacy Super Pack 3 subscriber but did not change to Ultra Box last year because my Plasma TV was not HDCP compliant but decided not to change the TV as it was still in good working condition. I have now decided to buy a 4K TV and called up CS to change to Ultra Box. Requested to maintain the legacy pack subscription but CS was unable to accede, so switched to a new package. Currently using satellite dish and PVR. May I ask what are the factors to consider for using the satellite cable connection or the Plug and Play for the Ultra Box.

Astro installer came yesterday to replace PVR with Ultra Box but did not change the LNB Universal type to DCSS type. He informed that he was not supplied the DCSS to change at the satellite dish. Upon installation, my TV could receive the UHD transmission with HDR at channel 805 and the installer maintained that there is no need to change the LNB. He asked me to contact Astro CS if I still want to change to the DCSS LNB.

I then called CS and was informed that Ultra Box and 4KTV which is HDCP 2.2 compliant are only required to receive UHD transmission. I told her that would be the requirements for Plug and Play installation but as my case involved the satellite dish why no LNB change but she replied not necessary for the LNB change as my TV was already receiving the 805 transmission.

However later on in the day when reading the Ultra Box Installation Guide (the installer left it inside the carton box during his installation) I found out on Page 17 on Satellite Antenna Connection where the DCSS is specifically mentioned.

So why did the installer and CS staff still maintain no need to change LNB to DCSS? I give the benefit to the installer that he was not provided with the DCSS as it was not difficult for him to get to the satellite dish at my house as it was installed at the balcony area on the first floor and he could just sit there to change the LNB.

I have since written to wecare@Astro on this matter.

Like to check whether any of you have recently changed to the Ultra Box using satellite connection and was the the LNB changed ?

Also what are the problems if the LNB is not changed to DCSS type using the Ultra Box ?

So what you trying to say is, you are able to view channel 805 even when you are using the normal Universal LNB?

Yes

You press home>Settings>Satellite Settings>LNB Setup.
Did you see "Universal" as part of the drop down menus for Input Source?

Yes

In the meantime, I'll try go dig around for more info on this...
Wait... Don't so fast go to MCMC first... See what they say on wecare email reply first.

Hi Joshhd, many thanks for your feedback.

Meantime, Astro CS has reverted with a holding reply, quoted as follows:

We apologise for the inconvenience caused. We have forwarded your inquiry pertaining to the DCSS installation to our installation team. Kindly allow us to revert the findings to you within 3 to 5 working days.[I]

Yes, regarding the Satellite Settings (LNB Setup) it is set to Universal for my Ultra Box.

But the Ultra Box Installation Guide clearly states in "Step 5 -Tuner Settings" that the LNB Type is selected as DCSS.

By continuing to use the Universal type, is there any impact on the overall optimal performance of the Ultra Box relating to UHD and Dolby Atmos/ DTS output?

3 to 5 working days? Ok lah, wait another 3-5 working days then sweat.gif

Received their reply last evening, as appended below:

Based on feedback received, previous Ultra box submission require no changes on LNB setting. Therefore, no DCSS installation done for your Ultra box.

The whole episode is apparently poorly managed by Astro.

At the onset, if it has been decided to maintain the Universal LNB when changing to Ultra Box, then a written notice to this effect from Astro should have been provided to the subscriber at time of installation to pre-empt any doubt of the subscriber why the installer is not changing to the dCSS type of LNB whereas the Installation Guide stated so.

In addition, the CS team should be fully briefed on this matter so that when a subscriber calls up to clarify why the LNB is not changed to the dCSS type when installing the Ultra Box, the CS should answer spot-on and not some unrelated matters like you need to have a 4K TV which is HDCP 2.2 compliant to receive UHD contents.

As I have been able to watch UHD transmission over channel 805 since installation of the Ultra Bos on 05 Dec and also, there are no interruptions to all the other channels under my subscription, I would leave the matter as it is. Many thanks to Joshhd for your feedback on this matter.

Guys, right now I'm getting SCNA message on CH 805 and CH 806, but I am still able to receive CH 549 and the rest of the channels as usual.
Anyone else is facing this?

Yes, 2 days ago when I was watching CH 806 around 8 pm and I initially thought that it might be the clouds as it was raining then but I could still watch other channels when I switched over, like 813, 814. The SCNA message on 806 went off after 10 minutes and no further message for the night.
