Mine still in 16 Sep 2020 version. Does astro upgrade the software stage by stage?
*
Same here, mine is same as yours, wonder if there is a setting to check for updates?

BTW, did anyone here manage to setup your Amp/Receiver remote to manage Astro? I was trying to get my Denon remote working, but none of the code seems to work

Oh, so does that means, those Ultra Box naysayers, can downgrade back to PVR box (with probably 24 months recontract)?  sweat.gif
Hmm okay. Seems that there is an "unofficial" option for that...  hmm.gif Maybe that option is strictly for those super disputing Ultra Box naysayers users only lol...  biggrin.gif
Looks like PVR box is here to stay for quite some time, especially for existing customers.... unless if they gonna allow Ultra Box users to connect external hard disk for local recording/timeshift feature, which it seems to me it is NOT their priority at all for now.  dry.gif
I wouldn't mind if I would to use my own CCTV grade hard disk (which I can buy it myself), as long it provides the playback reliability like the Astro PVR box.
Cloud recording, cloud PVR,... mmmm as an alternative can la, but to replace PVR box, nope shakehead.gif

Hmm am I understanding it wrong, the person is complaining about unable to to fwd/rev, using the ultra box?

Why cant s/he? Ultra box is able to pause/rev/play but those live on going channel, obviously one cannot fwd, unless restart the show from the beginning. As for recoding, could is provided just set the timer and record accordingly.

Still dont get what is the problem

Astro has been calling us non-stop to change our box to Ultra Box, we are using UniFi 500Mbps at home. Is my understanding correct whereby live channels still depend on the outdoor satellite dish while only VOD can be accessed with Internet? Is this a good idea to upgrade? We are not using 4K TV at home though.

Also, I will move to my own place in a few more months and I plan to install Astro too, I will have 4K TV, so should I straight opt for Ultra Box? It is a high rise prop in case this matters.

Thanks.

Yes fruitie, your understanding is correct. I too just moved to ultra box when there was a promotion, 2 /3months ago. And then upgraded my TV later....

Only VOD is internet based and some of its show is in 4K most of are on 1080, but much clearer than standard live channel.

How’s your feedback so far? Compared to the old decoders?
*
My previous model was not PVR, didnt upgrade then, bcoz was in the notion of cancelling Astro, but you know la, old folks, like to watch drama, so maintained for them.

I like the box its sleek and nice and the fron t red light suits my cabinet showcase well! hahaha

The UI is better user friendly and arranged nicely, especialy the VOD, which I use the most. It has boxset (past series, movies, etc) has category for kids, family, action, etc.

I like the recording on cloud as well, so we dont need a HDD.

But it tend to get a little hot, previously I had Hypptv box placed on it, but due to the heat have to place is elsewhere.

Currently watching all the Jackie Chan movie which been classified on VOD! rclxm9.gif

OH ya, I upgraded the remote when they installed the box, hmmmm cant remember now whether it was 20 or 30 bucks, but worth it, since it has the pvr control button (play/rev/fwd), etc But it would have been nicer if it was a flat remote rather than curved like the previous astro remote. The original remote that comes looks and feels better

The ultra box cannot rewind on live TV while the PVR box can do that(like a DVD/blueray player)
*
What I meant was, I could mimic that operation by selecting "Play from Start" and then you can forward/rewind up to the LIVE transmission thats playing.

Folks, just wanted to know if there is any disadvantage using Astro ultra box via internet streaming vs satellite streaming?

Recently my box connection to satellite is lost, hence contemplating if I should call Astro technician (fees applies) to fix it or just use the internet network for viewing? Thanks

Internet streaming will use your internet bandwidth. Also there is delay in all channel compared to satellite, especially if u watch F1 or epl or all live football.
*
Thanks, one other thing I realize is that initial channel startup (when we switch to a channel), there is some 10sec pixilation (buffering) before it becomes clear, but tolerable.

Any effect on 4K channels?

Ah then it's make sense. 4k channel need at least 50mbps.

U may speedtest again using laptop direct connect Lan cable, if same issue then u need check wiring issue ad. Make sure all port from modem to router is 1gbps wire. If unable to check, outsource IT person to check for you. Not sure able to report to astro to get assist or might be there is charge I'm not sure.
*
Lan cable gets full speed including wifi at 300+Mbps and they are on Cat6. Thx

If you make sure all is 1gbps capable then you can report to astro see what's their response.

Anyone can clarify ultra box or ulti box is 10/100 or 10/100/1000?
*
Its Ultra box. Yeah, I guess will call them up to fix the satellite and check on the network connection as well.

Thanks everyone for your insights! cheers notworthy.gif

Folks, just curious, what's the internet speed you get when you test from Astro Ultra box? My broadband is 300Mbps, but I only get around 20-40Mbps on LAN cable at Ultra box.
Wondering is that norm or something to be rectified, as I will be calling the Astro technician to fix my satellite next week, so will ask him to check on this as well.

Test server for astro is limited to around that speed so don't worry
*
QUOTE(joshhd @ Oct 1 2023, 06:14 PM)
If you do speed test on Ulti/Ultra Box, definitely you'll get the speeds of around 30-40Mbps, bcuz the test server destination is to their streaming servers, and it does not corresponds to your actual ISP subscribed speeds.
And it seems that they've imposed a max speed per user that connects to their streaming servers, that's why you'd only get speeds around 30-40Mbps, which it doesn't matter much anyway, cuz even if you stream 4K UHD content on Ultra Box, the recommended speed is 30Mbps.

Thanks folks for the insight! That puts me at peace notworthy.gif cheers
