I was wondering there news about steam valve with saying you don't own the digital games even buying it unlike GOG saying you own the digital games keep for life time. Do we keep life time steam game even if is steam down someday?

reputable company like steam probably until the day i die or the steam big boss is dead probably still there

even steam sold to bigger company probably still there since the company is earnings money and money drop from the tree probably if you wish them closed for business technically very hard,

unless special case I example ww3 i mean nothing is left digital or physical if involved in war if everything is burning down XD

Physical copy well no one wants multiple CD/DVD to install the game, even after installing the patch alone also don't know how many gb already

Unless the physical copy they come up with something like larger storage like thumb drive

Else everytime buy game nowadays the file size too big also come with more than 5 physical CD/DVD i literally don't have space for that 😂

1. even insurance companies say "lifetime" but actually up to 70yo - 99yo depend on your policy

2. with the way tech is going, in about 10 years someone will be selling pirated "game machines" of the current AAA titles. Even today, on Lazada/Shoppe there are all in 1 game machines for RM30 that have thousands of games from NEO-GEO age to PS2/PSP.

It’s really complicated with the digital ownership. Our theory Steam games provide protection, but if things get worse, we might lose everything. At least with GOG you are sure that the purchased games belong to you for eternity, so it’s safer to get your games from them. It barely made me want to have physical copies again.

Technically, everything on Steam has a pirate copy since their protection isnt that strong. Except... for games that uses Denuvo, you're fucked.

Lets hope Gaben and the torrents live forever.

TLDR version:
  • Sorry, gamers - Steam says you can't pass down your account in a will. Digital game collections may not be inheritable.
  • Users are frustrated by Steam's stance. Some suggest workarounds for sharing games.
  • Digital distribution limits ownership - users buy a license, not the product.
Steam has bad news for anyone who has considered what they'll have done with their digital games and belongings after passing away. A recent conversation with Steam seemingly indicates that trying to give a Steam library to a loved one through a will could face problems.

Many people write wills in order to share their wishes as to what happens to their belongings after their passing. For gamers, this often includes large collections of games, consoles, and peripherals, which can lead to loved ones inheriting game collections. However, digital distribution poses a problem, and Steam is included in that.
