I recently got a budget for 2 years worth of Private server hosting, NYC or Singapore server.

So before I jump into something with my both feet, I would like to know all of your opinions.

Ragnarok will be based on Overlord/Death March concept, A HERO story.

Take note, I have built a private RO server before. I am new to Black Desert Online (I have never play this game before FYI, just youtube gamplays).

Come come your opinions and ideas.

Build RO server, promote heavily at the existing official RO server by Electronic Extreme cause as usual, RO official tend to get massive population at the beginning due to heavy marketing but tend to die down really quick due to shitty management from those stupid game publishers. So the whole idea is to ride on the hype created by Electronic Extreme & steal as many players as you can from them cause they suck & bots infested their server.

Based on abit of research and personal experience, BDO private servers requires good top of the line servers (very RAM intensive) while RO servers can get away with normal low-end servers (depending on player count) so you might want to add/estimate the costs.

Personally I feel building a RO server is better due to larger player base. BDO imo requires a large player base to be fun because end-game is mainly large scale.

I'm currently playing in the bot infested official server.
You need to spend quite a lot in the beginning to market & promote your server before it's launch. The thing with RO is, the population will peak at the beginning only & slowly decline down. How fast or slow it decline really depends on how your manage the server & fulfill your marketing promises. So the key is to hype up your server as much as possible & of course offer something to address the issues that existing players are unhappy about in their existing server.

Electronic Extreme server peaked at 5k hand players in December 2017 & now it has dropped to 2k players with most bots. I'd say easily less than half of the populations are hand players now.

My previous RO beta build was 128mb RAM and 1 Ghz CPU, managed to host up to 10 players (laggy during WOE test). So with 1GB ram and a better CPU will be enough to host about 200+ players. Of course, top priority is to make server bot-free to have 200+ hand players.

Again with 1GB ram, it should be able to host about 80 players for BDO. I have seen the development setup.

However like NightHeart mentioned, RO players usually dont stay for long. Some come and go. Including myself. I was a hardcore player 10 years ago. Once I enter my college days, I play for 2 months and quit. Few months later found another one and left not long after.

Anyway, I will take your vote as YES for RO haha. Thanks for your time.

Wow talk about marketing. haha. Back in my days, private RO admins mostly advertise on RMS, XtremeTop, etc and nothing else.

I have played several private servers 10 years back and in between my college days, hardly notice any bots in private server at all.

But its true that some basic marketing and extreme advertisement are needed to promote server before launch. I do not plan to host a 2k+ players server, rather stay with 200 - 500+ clean player base. Care to join ?

I’m looking for at least 1.5k & above population. The current oldest & most stable private server is TalonRO. Last I saw few days ago, there was 1.5k players online. Probably just a quarter are autovends.

If so small population, it dies even faster lol.

I see. Totally understand. But when you say die, you mean server shut down or no active player ? Because when I purchase a server, I pay one time fees for 2 years hosting so the former one is definitely not going to happen lol.

Plenty, but not to the point of 0 players. It's usually dropped to so little players that the owner decided to close it.

I see. Most of the servers that I played during high school period shut down without any notice, even their web host and domain was apparently out of subscription.

It is such a shame that those time when RO was still a big thing, I didnt have the budget to host a server. Now that I am working, everything is declining from the peak for RO.

Hi, yes a lot need to be done. I am planning to kick start this project with crow funding campaign.
Funding goal will be as much as server cost + advertising cost for 2 years.

It is Free-To-Play but to make that happen it needs a fund source. So whoever make a pledge will get items like extra pearls, cosmetic equipment/visual dye, farming materials and etc.

Like I said, it is F2P as long as the server is kick-started.
