It's not, I just applied and got an acceptance letter. For some reason you have to apply to them directly and not through MoHE

This will be the first time UTM taking in Foundation students openly. Before this, there are smaller foundation programmes on specific faculties, but those have been discontinued. It is handled by UTM SPACE (which is our private wing) and is open to all Malaysians.

Heard that after completing the foundation, the entry requirement to undergraduate programs are lower as compare to those who apply via UPU.
And the tuition fees are much lower than those enter by IDPM/direct-intake.

I don't know about the requirements are lower or not. For my programme, it's the same for all regardless of background. But one might argue that STPM 3.50 is higher than foundation 3.50, but there's no way to measure that yet.

UTM's full time (Perdana) programme has two intake paths: UPU and IDP. UPU is the standard one everyone takes. IDP is for international spot. But UTM has opened it to locals as a path for those who took A-levels or other programmes that UPU does not recognize, or if you wanna skip UPU altogether. IDP fees are higher, because it's international fees (despite having the exact same curriculum, cert and facilities).

If you take foundation, you'll be applying the degree spot under UPU. Hence the "lower fees".

But I was told that if one takes UTM foundation(UTMspace) and meets the entry requirement of the undergraduate course desired he/she will get in directly without the need to apply via UPU. For example foundation students who have cpga >3.0 will automatically qualify for Computer Science, whereas for those applying via UPU and due to competition the minimum entrance cpga might rise to 3.2.

Just to clarify my earlier statement:

Yes, you don't have to apply through UPU if you're applying for placement using the foundation. But you will still compete for placement with those from UPU. IDP path do not compete with UPU/foundation for placement.

Regarding pointers, I've been informed that both UPU and foundation is considered the same.

Finally manage to get in UTM foundation. This is the 2nd batch that is open to ALL Malaysian. NOw aiming to get a UG degree from a Ranked 50-100 Uni, the saving will then be used for Post Grat overseas/Germany. On top of that can take up German as a subject in UTM.

Further fragmentation of the education system....

Foundation/asasi is always an easier pathway because one is normally assured of a place in the course you want, as long as you meet the set minimum criteria....that is the intrinsic attraction and advantage of foundation pathways....

As to upu, foundation students are already considered admitted students of the university, and need not go through upu.....

As to competition for places, it's an opaque system, and based on some ipta practices, places are first assigned to the eligible asasi/foundation students, then left over places selected from upu.....the excuse being, the foundation students have no/little options to look elsewhere for their studies.....

All these practices are extremely bad and fragments up education.....

And we wonder why so many graduates cannot find jobs....

Kinda old reviews and mostly parttime students.

I'm interested in foundation year in KL. I've spoken to some lecturers during their education fair, but i'd like some info from current students. Because need to make decision.

Are u sure UTMspace offering Foundation at KL? Most probably that is for UTM-MJIIT@KL, not UTM@JB.

Sorry, i hv made a mistake. Upon checking the brochure again, i realised that the Diploma programmes are held in KL, and the foundation is in JB. On the day of the edu fair, i was actually interested in another uni, but just passing by their booth to ask abt their courses and collect brochure. Now considering UTM. So far the foundation programme ok? Facilities, library ok?
