how about exploring the new Mitsubishi Outlander 2.0?
if not enough power can opt for 2.4 version.
7 airbags, 4wd, rock solid, 7 seater, larger boot space, better handling compared with xtrail.

As a 7-seater SUV, it should come at least with rear air-cond vent, or better still with 3rd row a/c vent too like Sorento, etc.
But it only has front a/c vents and the 2.0 is under powered.
Did not try the 2.4 version though.

The interior is very dated too. Seems like I’m stepping in to my previous Lancer GT from 2008.

if just looking at a/c vents and dated interior, yes its not the best. But u overlooked the extra value in 2.4 version which sells for 155k included 4wd, extra 2seats, extra 1airbag, led headlamp, powered tailgate, bigger boots. the build quality of Mitsubishi chasis and parts is much better compared to cx5 and crv. just the fc is higher than both but u get all terrain suv and safe suv to transport your family.

How old is this generation of Outlander? I notice there is a RM13k discount currently hence I suspect a facelift or new model coming out soon?
If not that it make a compelling case against CRV and CX5

the current outlander is the new facelift with dynamic shield face. the 13k discount applicable to 2.4 CBU Japan stocks only. so after discount will cost RM160k+. that CBU model is even more solid and quiet. u can observe the key welding points between ckd and cbu. the suv also have high ground cleareance but low center gravity for all terrain and curising on highways. the 2.0 is underpowered.

if looking for premium suv, mazda cx5 2.5 is good buy.
if looking for value for money family suv, the outlander 2.0 is good buy.
if looking for all round including fc n resale value, the crv 1.5t is good buy.
if looking for used suv, x-trail is good buy.

Price is secondary to me, more importantly is its quality, after sales service, handling, power for overtaking, NVH, comfy etc.

please try the Mitsubishi Outlander 2.4 CBU version and review here with other three choices.
