play games? depends on what game, if you wannaplay latest game, you need lates hardware so that can play smooth, if only like 2003 games, no need such high end laptop.

average laptop = rm2500-rm3500
high end = >rm3500

use windows xp is better, dont use vista yet, coz many games do not suppoty it yet.

Btw, halo2 only for vista. nod.gif laugh.gif Unless someone port the directx10(extracted from vista kernal) to winxp. rolleyes.gif

Basically, mac is no-no for game. Anyway you can still install winxp via bootcamp or virtual-pc. Btw, what's your budget? Apple only got 2 types of lappy, macbook and macbook pro. Macbook is only using GMA950 (i mention it cos' you seem like a gamer to me, GMA950 is a no-no for game, unless you only play 2D games or games like "dota" biggrin.gif ). The cheapest of cos is macbook which only RM4300. As for MB Pro, it equip with ATI X1600, which is nice and sweet for games.. FUFUFU.. What's the price? Nearly to RM8k i would say... whistling.gif rclxms.gif

Willing to spend on this babe? brows.gif

Hi, can I ask the same question too? Coz I thought of starting a thread on this but saw that someone already started it so I guess I might as well just chip in. Currently I have a Toshiba satellite R10 Tablet PC, and I'm thinking of getting an intel iMac 20-inch as a desktop this october when Leopard comes out. I want to retain my windows tablet pc for windows stuff and get an iMac desktop for all the cool stuff..hehe..

I like to blog and beginning to go into digital photography a bit. I play games too but just Pro Evo and Football Manager. Warcraft sometimes. Do u think getting an iMac is a good idea? Coz I've been to the Apple shop a couple of times and I've been really2 impressed with iLife and all the other software that runs on Mac. Oh, and btw, I'm a student (government sponsored) studying in the UK. The iMac 20-inch is about 800-900 pounds I think here. Just need a little more persuasion from you guys who know more about this...thanks a bunch!

Whatdya reckon? unsure.gif

I dont see any problem hindering you from getting an iMac. Get one, try it and you will know if it suits you not.

To me, it is a good idea. You will never know until you experience it. Btw, Apple store in Manchester is cool. biggrin.gif

If you can and want to wait for it, wait then. But if you cant resist to buy imac asap, then wait no more.

Simply to put it. I don't think a Macbook/Macbook Pro would be a good option if you are serious about gaming.

You can't upgrade most components in a laptop other than the RAM and Hard Disk... Unless of course if you would want to buy a new unit everytime a new model comes out

Alright this might appear as a silly question. I own a MB, can I play Championship Manager using Parallels? As far as I know, Parallels can't supoort 3D games, CM shouldn't be a problem isn' it?

Owh really? That's good news then. Where can I get a list of Apple retailers in malaysia? And do they just sell Macs, or do they provide service as well? Because I might be deterred if there isn't enough service centres for Macs in malaysia. unsure.gif

If u r switching, u switched. After u switched, u wun be saying things like, MAC OS sucks..!

So, i suggest, u get one tried it first. If u dun really like it ( chances are 0.1 out of 10 ) then install WINDOWS in ur MACBOOK, forget bout the MAC OS, and u still look cool with a MAC design...ain't it?

I like the lot of things that I can customize in Linux and I like Mac OS because of it's stability and user friendly. But still have to use Windows for games sad.gif

Read my thread

Now its possible to play Windows games on top of OSX without any sort of Virtual Machine . Its possible with WINE. DirectX 9 is supported , so Pixel shaders and other cool stuff kicks in and you can enjoy them !

Well this is what I've been telling some friends of mine about jumpting to the Mac camp.

Vista is very much like MacOS, it's somewhat different from XP and you have to familiarize yourself with it. So regardless of upgrading to Vista or MacOS, there's still alot of learning to be done. So why not just go Mac? It's way cooler and just better than Windows. You can even run Windows on it if you really want. There's no better time to switch camp than now really.

Somehow, they don't really wanna listen to me tongue.gif
But yeah Mac in Malaysia will be cheaper. I think the price difference is caused by VAT.

it's funny how some people think that using a Mac is like changing religion. pretty much like how some users think Intel, AMD, nVidia, ATi, Canon, Nikon are their religion.

I am totally very very unfamiliar with Apple. The most I have done with an iMAC (my office) is just some very simple video editing, safari, the words etc, everything that's very surface. My comment is..I think the Mac is very not user friendly.

However, due to the slash priced macbook(last batch), I am very tempted to own my first apple. However, I am very concern wheter I can master the apple, and will I be able to pair it with my current laptop and pc in window.

I need your advice:-
1) is 2.0 processor speed faster than a normal Sony Vaio 1.77 processor (T5500)
2) is it really difficult to get use with Mac?
3) I do video editing, photoshop, illustrator (design) and play some games like Civilization IV. Do you think that the MB is good enuff for this? I am not a heavy gamer, I like only strategy games.
4) Is it difficult to use Vista in MB? Will it jeopardies the machine?

I really a dummy in Apple world, but I like to take my first step to be a apart of it. so guys, please help or gimme any other valuable advice.

Cool thanks. But I think the processor does has something to do with speed. Ram is actually just make the work smoother, so indirectly it helps in speed, but processor is the one determine how fast a computer. So comparing a C2D 2.0 (MB) using OX to C2D1.77( Vaio) using Vista, which one is faster?

You won't see much difference with the different processor, I've not used Vista before, but heard that it uses up a lot of resources. OSX on the other hand runs perfectly.

Dont compare the processors though, cause in the end is how much of RAM you have.

I heard somewhere Leopard will be like around RM500...quite expensive if you ask me. So if you think the price is too high, you have to wait...
