recently i go toyota service after they service i feel my car no more pick up, after i check found that they overfill the engine pil alot..then i go back to the service center.they admit that they overfill the engine oil and suck it out....but after suck out i still feel that the pick up not like before. can it be my problem or maybe the overfill engine oil already cause some damage?

Honda sc as well, my honda city was filled with almost all 4litre of engine oil where as it should be 3.6l and left 400ml to be brought home in the bottle.

After service car no inspection? Which umw service center is this?

They're still using the oil bottle? I tot they're using the drum barrel for oil

nope they use 4l bottle in my area.I request for the bottle evertime after service to see how much was left.

Sorry for reviving old thread. Have similar issue but not from honda sc. The newbie pour in the whole 4L engine oil into my Honda city as well.
Did u drain it or you let it be? I googled and some said 400ml extra will do no harm

Just 2 weeks ago, my Avanza was filled with 4L instead of the usual 3.5L something.
Dipstick exceed MAX level mark by about 12 mm.
So far so good and I don't think it is an issue.
I will see.

Mine exceed max less than 1cm. Hopefully it’s ok.

Don't worry too much about using 4 litre of engine oil although specifications mentioned it should be 3.6 litre.

I did an oil change myself on Honda City and to my suprise, I nearly poured all 4 litre of engine oil to get to the dipstick's topmark.

Probably had only about 50-100ml remaining in the bottle.

So rest assured 4 litre is fine.

If your engine is new and good condition usually no issue, the only side effects is might feel heavier or lazy to pick up due to more oil in the engine. If engine condition is not good, higher chance of oil leaking might encounter around oil pan/sump side area due to higher oil level.

reviving old thread again.
frustrated a bit coz just confirmed that my honda city L15Z1 engine is leaking from somewhere at the top. I suspect it was because the mechanic overfilled the full 4L into the car during my last service 6 months ago (whole bottle completely emptied).

I did a quick check under the car last saturday and found oil on the bottom engine cover. i went to a trusted mechanic to inspect where the oil is coming from. looks like its coming from the engine oil cap and potentially also the cam cover, and maybe even the flywheel oil seal as well (which costs a bomb to reseal because need to pull out the gearbox).

i checked the dipstick and it was still about 0.5cm over the max indicator hole even with the leak and almost 10k km distance travelled since the last service.

for context my car was purchased May 2014 so it is 10 years old now. so i guess your feedback that if the "engine is in good condition, usually no issue" applies. its likely my seals are already a bit worn due to their age so when the mechanic overfilled completely, the seals couldnt take it and started leaking.

Bro, 10 years old consider not new already. The rubber/gasket seals around your engine should already start wearing out, changing new seal and resealing is normal for that age. 0.5cm should not impact much, if over like 30~50% higher above the max line then you might need to consider asking the mechanic to release out the additional oil.

it was close to 50% more than the max line right after filling the EO. i raised a concern to the mechanic and asked him to suck out. he was adamant that it was fine and i shouldnt worry about it.
i work in oil n gas so when I see a max line, I follow the max line because why the heck would there be a MAXIMUM indicator if it is fine to go beyond the max, right? but in this case, im not the expert so I trusted him even though my gut told me I should have insisted he pump out the excess.

but yeah, its true that the seals were probably not in the best condition anyway. but I posted this anyway so that others can learn from this and potential further the longevity of their own seals by simply insisting on following the max indicator.

engine top cover leak is normal after few years... and is not related to overfill...

overfill by 1-2cm is not a problem and doesnt cause damage... max line just tells ppl got enough oil liao, its not a "danger do not fill over this line or your engine will explode"... chill la bro don't sweat it...

no, bro. if we are talking about >20 year old engines you might be ok to overfill the EO.
modern engines are designed to tight tolerances and overfilling can cause pressure build-up and damage the seals and gaskets.

there is no easy way to know how much EO is too much so the best policy is to just follow the indicators.

no... it is not old engine vs modern engine... what you want to check is wet sump vs dry sump... plenty of modern engines uses old wet sump design...

if your car has a long dip stick... you have a wet sump... if you badly over fill and cause crank counter weight to "churn" the eo, you will lose power and vibrate more at high speed...

of course excessive over fill is problematic, a bit over the dip stick dot is ok... engine designs have built in tolerance for such things...
